Odyssey Going Forwards

Greetings Commanders.

With the release of Update 5 on 1st July plus a few smaller server updates since, and Update 6 currently in development, I wanted to take a moment of your time to talk about the next steps for Elite Dangerous.

We are aware and fully accept the frustration that many of our players have had with their experience of Elite Dangerous Odyssey. The community have spoken, we have heard the feedback clearly and we will act on that feedback.

As you may remember in our recent development article, the significant amount of updates and development effort that has been done to fix and improve issues since the launch of Odyssey has meant work on our console release has not progressed as quickly as we had hoped. What’s more, we can see that the strides we have made through the last five major updates are positive, but we must continue on with this progress to give the experience that you and we expect on PC.

With those things in mind, we have spent a lot of time discussing and re-evaluating our previous plans and we have made the decision to prioritise the core PC experience for Elite Dangerous. Ultimately, we believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more. We know that the work that we do to improve players’ experiences of Elite Dangerous Odyssey on PC will benefit other platforms in the future, but the dates and details of the console platforms are going to change. We do not want to rush into confirming any dates or changes this has on our console release, as we must remain fully focused on the core Elite experience. Only when we feel that the foundation of the PC release is solid, will we be able to re-lay our console roadmap on top.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey is an important step on a complicated journey, and we must get this right, before we can consider moving on to these new platforms.

So what does this actually mean for Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

We will continue to give open monthly development updates where we discuss WIP content, challenges, the issue tracker and more. We know that the previous levels of detail for the roadmap and developer update have not met expectations, but we are grateful for your patience while we shift and adjust plans, in the face of such clear feedback.

Please remember that our team here at Frontier are working hard to support the game and our community. Behind every bug fix, design decision and community post is a person who cares a lot about giving our players best possible experience. I would ask that everyone remains calm and respectful when sharing their thoughts and feedback.

We all have the same goal and we will get there, together. Please bear with us.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I feel ripped off buying EDO as a VR exclusive player.
I built my new rig in my Sig, to play EDO in 4k VR, I've spent thousands and to be let down, to be told there would be no more VR development from a game that was built for VR from the inside out, just to drop it.
Why did i buy EDO if everything but foot fall is coming to EDH. I haven't played EDH or EDO in weeks, I have over 3k hrs in VR.

You need to hear us and hear us loud and clear. There are other games out there beside EDH/EDO. I've now bought and played Star Citizen. If you want me to come back to ED you need to come through with more than just words, actions is what proves who is a man and who is not.

This is disgraceful and discrimination against the console community, you have promised a release date after not treating us fairly already but not releasing the update across all platforms together and making us wait so long, now your giving us the middle finger again by doing this to us. You are truly demonstrating to the console community that you have no care or regard for us and you only care about the pc community. I am disgusted with all at fdev

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content should be of a satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.

My rights have been breached because the digital content you sold me is faulty. I would like you to fix it within a reasonable time.

If you really feel that way, your credit card company can probably arrange a refund for you if you explain the situation.

What a surprise my first reply was deleted!

that is how it supposed to be from the beginning, make sure core game (PC) is working properly. this is a PC game first of all. consoles always should be 2nd priority.

Excuse me please. Would you prefer an unfinished/buggy product you already paid for, like the pc-community got? It's only reasonable to foremost suit those who already have paid than those who are waiting.

In all honesty, I gladly would have waited another year or so to get a finished product than that, what we have now.
Better be glad, that WE the pc-community are the beta-testers for you consoleros, so that YOU can pay for a (hopefully) finished product ready to be enjoyable.

I accept what Elite Dangerous is and can be and that it is a little limited compared to other games in the same genre . Thats fine - There are things about Elite Dangerous that only Elite Dangerous has - the Ships , the history of the game etc , some of the Vistas you can see , the scale of the galaxy to travel within . I hope to see improvements in stability and fingers crossed some new content added to the game - new ships , new vehicles , new on foot game loops - but I don't expect anything much more out of this game at this point . Anyone looking for a truly immersive space game experience have other alternatives these days and are more than likely already putting more game time into those .

Well, it's... something.
I still hope that in future devs tell us about new content and features we'll wait. Or some hints, at least.
I think this is that bone that could make community less... frustrated, i gues. But it's just a first step in a long path.

We always get the same bugs pc has, we never get an improvement version, so it makes no difference waiting, we will get the same mess you have

as a console player, I feel dejected. Consistently being put on hold is not the kind of game I want to play. I've played over 11000 hours in game and spent TONS of arx trying to support the game. I'm happy for the PC players. Good for you. I'm moving on though. I've had enough of being hyped to only be kicked in the teeth....again.
If it makes you feel better, a lot of PC players are moving on too because being a beta tester for a broken game wasn't what we signed up for either. The reason console launch is being pushed back is because, so far, they're not able to make the optimisations needed. That's what PC launch is there for right now - and why the focus is being put onto updates for PC. Because PC is beta testing the fixes they're hoping will make console viable. They're linked. None of this is "we've listened to feedback from the PC community and we're shifting focus to respond to that". It's because they won't be ready for console, so they need to stretch out the testing on PC.
