State of the Game

in elite, fdev doesn't even pretend to give you a diplomatic option. You can't communicate with npcs except to request docking or accept/decline missions.

no options to request help (that may be acted on or lauged at or ignored depending on your reputation etc)
no options to taunt
no options to respond to piracy requests.

i'm not sure why basic comms functionality that existed in these kind of games pretty commonly in the past 30 years has been left out.
It's funny because it made me think of Warframe space fight expansion launch. It's similar to how odyssey launched in many aspect and it's funny.
Warframe is a looter shooter, so "spaceleg" originally, then they hyped space combat with multicrew spaceship. And when it landed it was... bad.
Not only the promised feature weren't there, but it was a content island, buggy, grindy and with little goal. Remind you of something ? Also, optimization was kinda bad, but not that bad.

So, they came clean. Said it was bad and would fix it. The DB equivalent said the hyped video didn't have actual gameplay but was a trailer, basically. And it was a mistake he really regretted. He apologized and said he would not do that again. Only real gameplay from now on, and he is been doing just that for 2years now.
They diminished the price by 75% of the ship (which was grindy), and REFUNDED everyone who paid already by the amount difference. And as if that was not enough, gave us a BIG compensation for the grind we had to do.
Still not enough, so they fixed the bugs first. Then spent an entire update to fix, balance and improve it.
Still wasn't enough. So they revamped the damn thing so it was not a content island anymore, amongst other things. And gave, once again, big compensation for everyone depending on the amount of time you spent in it.
And now, they added even more link from it to regular game.

Oh and it was entirely free, because warframe is free to play.

Sorry for the off topic, I never realized the similarities :D

one thing i wish would get rebalanced would be combat ....get off the reliance on shields and focus more on physical damage to the ship. there's a whole power system in the game, a whole repair system in the game, and a life support option etc... and they almost never get used by anyone who isn't a newbie because your options are go big shield or run away because there's no in between that is viable.

once you start taking hull damage, it's too quick for that damage to become completely disabling. so everyone runs off when that happens to repair at a station or get shields up. Because your only way from benefiting from a battle is by destroying the enemy. There is no partial credit type option, so you can't have every npc take 15 minutes to fight.

i dont see that changing... but if it did.. that would be pretty cool. Being in a 10 minute long battle where you have time to micromanage in-fight repairs and not just frantically playing who's shields will drop first. Would finally have a reason to implement damage models on the ships. or have more than class D life support and such.

Very true. The only place where hull and modules take more effort or longer is in CZs, but it still isn't the model you are alluding to, as the aggressor just carries on hammering away at the NPCs and normally the pp to get a kill before 0%.

I don't know how they could implement such a system as it would totally change the combat in game, but it would be nice. Good thinking batman.

well looking on friends list. the number of players on over 3 months now is getting beyond a joke.i got one on a year..so that saying something about the game

Maybe you just have no friends?

Is the one your alt as well?

You know I'm only kidding mate ;)

2 more friends than you :p

100% of my friend list have stopped playing the game.
But also, 100% of my friend list is still playing.

Not having any friend in your friend list put you in an awkward situation.
Those lists in apps/games etc should be named... "contacts" or something similar anyway.
Definitely not "FRIENDS "
I don't like how term "friend" was degraded since we have social media, multiplayer games etc.

I can have a lot of acquaintances, but FRIENDS are exceptional and I can name a few only, in VR (Internet) and RL alike.

it would involve changing so much...which is why it wont happen.

everything from costs of repairing, to how you balance that with new ship consts.. to ship to ship communication to damage and weapon rebalancing. Fixing it would require touching almost everything at this point.

your best bet would be to introduce an entire new means of playing that does it right from the start . say, larger capital type ship battles that you pilot. One could say, pilot a Dredger and go against other mini-capital type ships such as a panther clipper - etc. and they wouldn't be tied to the existing gameplay decisions that are entwined with the existing ships and all the things you do with them.

just do what everyone else does and load up your free epic accounts and add them as friends. Then you'll always have half a dozen or more friends on whenever you are and feel content.
