If you didn't delete your actual CMDR, maybe there's something to come back to in the future. Walking away from a game that you've put hundreds, sometimes even thousands of hours into can be a tough pill to swallow. If you're on PC, might want to give SC a try. From what I've seen of it lately, the updates, patches, and additions are coming at a very steady rate. Either way, take a break from the game as well as these forums. As you can see, the usual suspects come out in droves to crap on threads they don't like when they could have saved some time and not said anything at all.
I assume you're using Steamchart numbers. In July ED normally has between 3000 and 4800 players. Last year's lockdown thingies had a one-off boost to 7000. Other than that, this year's July has the highest steam charts number in its history, despite many countries finally opening up again.
Was EDO's launch disappointing? Sure. Could the numbers have been higher? Yes. Is ED doing poorly in player numbers this July? No.
Seeing multiple threads or youtubers saying - "mmm not so much into this ED anymore" shouldn't be a doom bell, but it should be a wake up alarm for FDEV.
Depends. It the console launch goes well and the pc version is fixed by then things will be fine. If not, not.But will ED pull the milky money udders a bit more? The numbers are not growing which after a major update is a bit of a problem.
Sure. It's far from great, but as you say it's hardly doom either. Last 30 days ED lost 28%. MMS lost 20%.I assume you're using Steamchart numbers.
Let's say last year in July 2020 we were looking at an average of 4000 players by your accounting.
That was after of multi year drought of substantial content (FCs - oh boy, very limited segment of the player base involved in that).
Odyssey released at a time when no functional space sim competitor is available on the market other than NMS.
Here is the last 30 days after the release of a 40$ DLC:

I think that a buff of 1400 players within barely a month of release of this full price DLC is not doing well.
That average in the midpoint of the downward trendline as well.
I'd say it's doing poorly.
The trend is moving toward previous content drought player levels.

FD needs to get things going pronto, absolutely. But a lot of the doom vibe is highly exaggerated.

To give a wake up call to Fdev and CM's - that things aren't going good right now.Was there a point to the original post?
Things are fineTo give a wake up call to Fdev and CM's - that things aren't going good right now.
Yea, just the playerbase on Steam is keep on dissapearing.
It is pretty clear by David Brabens latest post that FDev are aware of the state of the game and that their communication have been lacking. To give a wake up call to Fdev and CM's - that things aren't going good right now.
And yet no actions are beeing taken...It is pretty clear by David Brabens latest post that FDev are aware of the state of the game and that their communication have been lacking.
Proof will always be in the pudding though...
By that reasoning NMS lost 96% of its playerbase. The fact there is a peak during launch followed by a decline happened literally every single patch for both ED and NMS.![]()
Since the launch of Odyssey 2 month ago, more than 75% of Steam Elite playerbase has left the game.
It's one things if numbers are down during dry months with no patches or big updates. But after 2 month of a first paid DLC in 5 years - stop deluding your self, it's not Summer, its not the Pandemic - Odyssey is just that terrible right now.
