Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Oh, and a SC player leaving (at least temp) to return to their other space sim (which will go unnamed).

On the one hand, massive wall of text that i find hard to even understand what his real issues are with SC. But the community of course also picking up on that and rather that replying to his points just ragging on him for the length of his post.
I read through it and worked out he has a Virpil hotas that he hasn't worked out how many buttons it has on it...apart from that, my eyes were bleeding by the time I got to the end :D

Hah, so basically a problem he will have with any game. :D
Nah, to be fair, the controls menu in SC is a clusterfarce. Trying to set a hotas up in game is a lengthy and frustrating process. Most folk just give up trying and end up using M/KB...which is a shame. The ships in SC feel a lot more intuitive to fly with hotas.

You must not have heard about Odyssey Sir
I kinda do both games...for very different reasons. Slightly longer in ED at 5,500 hours or so. Contrary to popular opinion and despite the issues with EDO, I still like it :)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I tried another cargo retrieval mission tonight and had the same bug happen where once I enter my ship the mission does not progress. I never get the destination for the salvaged box.

This time I asked chat what was up. I threw out the possibility that it was because I had an Aurora that the mission was bugged. Someone confirmed that yes - the starter ship cannot complete a simple "find and return a box" mission. Literally the easiest, most noob friendly mission and the "starter" ship cannot do it.

Sigh.

As an explorer i wouldn't touch Star Citizen with a barge-pole, what's it got like 6 planets or something?

For exploration then yeah, SC isn't the game for you at the moment, and may never be. Depends on what you are looking for in exploration. Finding new systems where nobody has been before? Then ED or NMS, not SC. Exploring planet surfaces? Then yeah, SC to some extent, but the planets are tiny and any POIs are discovered quickly and will continue to be so, even if they ever actually deliver on the 110 promised systems, although at least then, in theory, there will be a lot more to see for yourself, even if someone else has already been there.

There are some amazing vistas in SC to be seen. It makes a nice screenshot generator, just like ED. But other games do as well, like RDR2 and Valheim and many others.

I suspect the advice you got from chat wasn't completely accurate...mainly since I've watched several new guys do the same missions fairly regularly and successfully. The Aurora isn't the easist ship to do box missions in by any means...the side entry doors and having no place to shove the box except on the bunk or on the floor behind the pilot seat simply invites problems with the dodgy ship physics in SC, but I've seen it done...recently on video too... if I can find the link.

Besides those issues, it sounds like the old box mission bug has returned from what you're describing, it's been happening on and off for quite a while. For some reason, the minute you place the box inside the ship, the servers lose track of it and still register the box as not being picked up or as being dropped even though you may still see it there in the ship.

I'll grab an Aurora and try the mission myself later just to check it's not ship specific. I have a feeling it's something connected with the canned entry animations on the Aurora come to think of it...when you selected 'enter ship' from the inner thought menu in previous patches, your avatar dropped the box... the only way to get the box physically inside the Aurora was to open the door and chuck it in. It might be a throwback to that.

I'm an original 2012 SC backer, but I refunded SC several years ago. Recently I had an itch to check out CIG's 'progress'. I remembered that I had gifted someone I know a Star Citizen package waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2014. I asked him if he was ever going to use it. "Nope" he said. He dug in his old email and completed his account creation, then changed the email address to mine. :) Here I am again with a base Aurora. Huzzah.

Took off from New Babbage and promptly got into a spin and crashed. Woke back up in bed, then trekked all the way back to the starport to try again. This time I managed to take off and flew to Calliope (I think?), one of Microtech's moons. Landed and got out for my Armstrong Moment (tm). Wind blew over my Aurora, but surprisingly didn't seem to bother my character. Could not re-enter my ship. I died of hypothermia.

That was the first evening.

Since then I've had marginally better luck, and have done a few bounty hunting missions. I have yet to complete a single package delivery or cargo retrieval mission, however, due to the incessant bugs and glitches. The most recent was when I got a mission to recover a cargo package from a downed Freelancer. I found the box, but when I re-entered my Aurora the box disappeared back outside my ship in the spawn location. I re-exited the ship, got the box, and managed to re-enter and put the box down. Flew to the drop-off but then once I landed I got a message saying the mission had failed.

There are so many little frustrations like that that just kill my enjoyment. Every time I find myself getting into the groove of SC and actually enjoying myself there is something that will yank me back. Desyncs, physics bugs, frame drops, geometry that fails to render, elevators with disappearing controls, mysterious mission fails, terribad UI, etc.

I could see myself enjoying this game if all these issues were fixed. Of course that's not even getting into CiG's horrible, predatory business practice and lying - I'm only looking at the gameplay. For now I guess I'll just keep this account and at least be able to check in every so often to see if anything ever comes of this project.
Right. So I take it you havent then started streaming or making cool videos of SC. How you very dare mister!

PS: Hi there mate, long time no read!

FWIW I tried this twice yesterday in a Cutlass and this is exactly what happened, so not ship specific.

On another mission to recover Slam from a wreck, I couldn't pick up a box, it was 3m away in front of me but I couldn't get close enough, it was like it was behind an invisible wall. Is that a known bug too?

Because that one was fricking hilarious? 😁

"finally I tried a waste disposal mission and was killed by the physics engine when I set down the final box, it ricocheted off the floor of my Titan hitting my character and killing me instantly."

Come on. That's some quality biowaste.

I've never had that one...but then again I don't do drug runs :D

Yes it's a bug. Some boxes are placed randomly and some of them spawn from time to time in non reachable places.
Also get a gravity gun with you, some missions can't be done without it.

You can continue to imagine.

Ooops, looks like you were a little premature.

haha, the hubris in thinking that your contrary opinion holds as much weight as the pro side of Star Citizen or is even correct is astounding. linking videos that invoke the concept of sunk cost fallacy as though they are indicative of any semblance of truth, when they are merely a lazy fallacious appeal to intuition as the basis is nothing but pure conjecture. 1. you do not know if it even applies and is not just meant to be a derogatory statement that leads to a thought terminating cliche, as i am sure you do not know the motivations of the majority to SC backers and are just being lazy and dismissive of them, as you cannot understand why people would like something that you do not. 2. you are under the impression that you and your ilk have not fallen prey to it yourselves on the other side, as one could argue that you are far more "emotionally" invested in Star Citizens fate than backers of the game itself. 3. people can spend their money however they wish, you are not "saving" anyone from your perceived horrors and ineptitude of CR and the devs. i want to see if you are willing to keep the same energy if/when Star Citizen and Squadron 42 ever release, and not play them out of principal. really show us that you have the courage of your convictions and never play, no matter how the games are improved and the features added. hold the line for real, because your current attitude towards the game(s) is not reasonable and is in fact unhealthy, but like most conspiracists, you will just move the goalposts instead of just admitting you were wrong and apologizing for spreading misinformation, under the guise of rendering aid to your fellow gamer. and its highly ironic that you try to impugn CR for "lying", yet you have no compunction about spreading misinformation yourself. at least with CR we know that he was making his comments in good faith, though he used to get overzealous with the release estimates, due to development improvements and design changes, but we actually know from your post history that the same cannot be said about you. ironic indeed.

And that is what i often talk about when it comes to the faithful.

You can't have an open, honest, and polite conversation with these people.
