Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It doesn't matter if you've bought an Idris or not...servers aren't worth a jot flying around in a $50 Aurora either. Of all SC's bugs and issues...the server performance is top of any current players 'They need to get this sorted' list. The 30k's have all but gone in the current live and PTU patches...desync and server lag is ridiculous even on low populated servers. It effects everything from mining to PvE combat to PvP.

Ay, the uber-chariot thing is more about whether they can actually deliver what they've pre-sold.

But for sure they need to at least revamp what they've got, to improve performance and allow for the solar system expansions. (And they surely totally should be able to do that. It's pretty standard fare to achieve, given the time frame, even if hampered by a Cryengine base. They can call it 'Mushy Servers and Peas', or whatever they like. Just get it done ;))

They should probably just admit that Server Meshing itself is a pipe dream though. And deal with the fallout from that, regarding the feasibility of the Idris / Javelin class ships.

But I won't hold my breath on that ;)

Technically speaking, server meshing is not required for a second system, at least in any complicated form. They could run different systems on different servers. As you go through the wormhole you get handed over to another server that can accomodate you.

Server meshing is needed for the dream of having thousands of players all together in the same virtual world. It also doesn't solve the issue of having too many players in the same location, another magic tech will be needed for that, but i guess they will fall back on instancing to achieve it.
Here's hoping the idiot Roberts doesn't scupper the sensible approach like he's done so far for everything else :cautious:

Why? How are this two relevant?
Full Stanton system is atm ONE server instance (one giant map) and CIG need to add the tech to exchange datas between instances (that's one of the goal of SM). To add a new system (Pyro), CIG can't add it to the actual Stanton instance (it's at max) > at least add one new instance > need SM for exchanging data between those 2 instances when you go from Stanton to Pyro.

So how is the Cutty Black?

I've just scraped to 1.3mil aUEC so starting to decide on a ship: Cutty black cheaper and versitile; Freelancer (base) tankier and more solo DPS for gimbal scrubs; or maybe Cutty Red for easier FPS missions.
I've rented the Freelancer, and it seems good, just a big sluggish, not roomy inside, and decidedly not great view out the cockpit window.

Anyone know how these ships are in PTU 3.14?

Suggestions on something vaguely multi-role, so i can dabble in different gameplay, and not too expensive?

I've only flown it to sell refined commodities since the prospector can only carry ore, I did however buy a ROC mining buggy which I'm told the Cutlass can carry.

Anyway...in other news, I've been doing the multicrew mining thing in a Mole a bit more being with the org guys...besides the server lag and desync, it's been a blast.

In all the time the orbital station has been around Hurston, this is the first time I've ever just stood and looked out of the window down at Lorville.

Yup, it's a tight fit but the Cutty black is the ideal ROC miners transport. Look for outcrops of hadanite, the outcrops appear as little gem symbols on the scanner as opposed to the rock symbols for Prospector mineable rocks... and ignore the dolovine, it's not worth much...You'll find outcrops in groups of up to 8 or 9 rocks. Any moon will do since they all have hadanite, I prefer the likes of Daymar or Microtec...Aberdeen or Arial are good too. Once the ROC is full, just fly to the nearest outpost on the planet/moon you're on and sell there. No need to head to a refinery or anything. You'll also need some Pembroke armour to survive sitting in the unpressurised ROC...it's available at any refinery station.

There have been increasing and persistent calls for a "solo mode" in Star Citizen, which is one of the things that brings me back to ED time and again.

When I want to game with org mates, SC answers the mail and we often have a blast for hours - despite the bugs. But when I want to game alone, I'd rather not be peeking over my shoulder for PK types in min-maxed fighters out to get their jollies ... not that it happens that often to me in SC - its actually pretty rare, but then I don't mine in hotspots or run delivery missions (other than the occasional box mission).

In ED, I can and do log in to Solo mode so as not be be concerned about triple-elite murder squads in highly-engineered death boats against whom I'd have no chance at all. I and many others would like to see that feature someday reach SC.

Weren't there rumours that people, as in backers, had got SC to work in offline mode? Basically single player CryEngine type thing, without needing to connect to CIG servers.

Imagine being able to do that without having to switch to another game…

That was possible under 2.X and for a very short time during 3.0 with lots of issues, bugs, and glitches (and non-working missions). After that, saw no evidence anyone could pull it off. Of course some folks have managed to spin up a small universe of their own simply to load in unfinished ships, but that's a different story altogether.

Cheers Mole!

I'm inclined to totally agree with you! I'm just stumped how to get my hotas to work as intended 🤨

I really do appreciate your help though in trying to find a solution!

How is Ker doing with her convalescence at home?
D2EA has just posted a video about setting up HOTAS/HOSAS in SC, maybe there's something in there that will help.
