As I said, whatever floats your (space) boat. So far I'd guess I've had something like 80 hours of gameplay out of Odyssey, so I'm fairly comfortable that I've gotten a decent amount of fun for my intial purchase price.40$ Odyssey:
- Tiny Space Station Ship Interiors - 3-4 variety
- Thin Atmosperic planets with out weather.
- Tiny Settlements
- Mission pack
- 3 Suits, 12 Weapons.
50$ SC:
10+ Suits, 20+ Weapons.
- Massive Space Station Interiors.
- Few Atmospheric Planets with Weather effects
- Very detailed Ship Interiors
- EVA
- Mission pack
- 5+ Combat ground vehicles
- Road Maps and Developers Streams.
If we compare Odyssey vs SC - than SC is much better investment atm. This might change if Frontier reveal their future plans for Odyssey - but so far we know nothing about them.
It would not be a good idea to even try to get it working. Is ELITE DANGEROUS ODYSSEY possible with VORPX?
Have a look at the VORPX site: it will tell you much about the software: https://www.vorpx.com/So you get motion sick?
Candy for the topic:
In my opinion Fdev should implement VR in Odyssey.
How does the VORPX work with the games? How are the hands in the games?
No. I never get motion sickness. Having played ED in VR since the DK2 came out in 2014, then bought the Oculus Rift, I now own a HP G2 and stopped playing ED when this Odyssey shambles was released. I gave it a go, but as soon as it went all pancake I shut it down.So you get motion sick?

The topic is VR and it's demise in Elite, and any reference to star citizen were related to the refuges being found by displaced elite players, all peripherally related to the core topic. Anyways, I'm outta here for another few weeks before I get in even more trouble. o7The topic is VR, isnt it?

I'm getting the feeling FD's new game engine can't handle VR since the FPS issues mean no viable VR until, or if, those FPS issues get fixed with OD, currently playing NMS in VR here and having a blast NMS can do VR, it is a shame FD apparently actually can't do-VR-anymore its way-too-hard without repairing current optimizations.Just a simplez question - since frontier's CM's are getting all touchy feely and hanging out with us in the forum, has anyone said anything more on VR? Or have they still only got 24 letters in their alphabet?
Ok. Thanks.Yes, but seems to be on the worse end of what vorpX can do. (IE just a large flat screen in VR space, with no effective 3D faking). And to use it you have to play in classic mode, so you lose all the VR in ships & SRVs. Not really a VR experience at all, and not worth it IMO.
It doesn't add anything profound like that at all (motion controller hand control etc). For the 250 odd games where the author has managed to jerry rig slightly better 3D fakery etc, it might be worth it for some players, although normally comes with a big performance hit, and the game itself isn't adapted for VR in any way (so there's smooth turn nausea for those who are susceptible, UI legibility issues etc). It generally has a poor reputation in the VR community on all of those fronts.
You're normally better off going for a bespoke mod where they exist. (Such as the GTA V & RDR2 ones)
Hi sorry to OT reply but how does it compare to the "Mother" mod which reenables the VR which was originally meant to be in the game?. Mileage varies - some games work great with it (Alien Isolation) and others don't or require a lot of tweaking.
It can be very worth it though, like for Alien: Isolation which will make you have to change your pants. As I understand it you still get the full 3D effect.
I’ve tried both, and as per the previous reply MotherVR is far superior - VorpX was more like having a 3DTV strapped to my head, if that makes sense? Instead of feeling “in” the game I was getting a view that had depth perception, but felt like it was still in front of me. It just felt “off” compared to the native mod.Hi sorry to OT reply but how does it compare to the "Mother" mod which reenables the VR which was originally meant to be in the game?
I have oft considered buying vorpx but held off in the end
Edit already answered sorry should have read whole thread.
That was such a bad line David Brabens script writer added to that post. Publically focus on repairing the game and if you can add some stuff as you're going along, awesome, but if not, no ones the wiser."we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game"
Wouldn't that mean having to exit ED then change the settings and run in monitor mode for VorpX to work?even the worst vorpx experience is better than the grey burqa
They haven't got a VR guy in the company. Ship / SRV etc VR was already built into the game (and the one dude who implemented that in a day or so left), and whilst us hardy VR heads would be happy for mouse look in 3D thru our headsets they probably felt they couldn't offer such a hacky solution for public consumption.it is a shame FD apparently actually can't do-VR-anymore its way-too-hard without repairing current optimizations.
There are so many conditionals in that statement that it makes it utterly meaningless - they can come back in a few months and say "we looked into adding new content and decided against it" without difficulty, should they want. That was such a bad line David Brabens script writer added to that post. Judging by the job adverts they're posting, it looks to me like they've outsourced much of the development for ED, although they do appear to be still handling the Cobra engine internally. It's a bit of an employees market at the moment, so I suspect they'll have difficulty filling any senior roles, especially given recent bad press which will likely scare some candidates off. They haven't got a VR guy in the company. Well I'm playing Fallout4 VR atm and that is based on a game engine that is over 10yrs old, I think what is more likely is them not wanting or willing to make changes to the engineI'm getting the feeling FD's new game engine can't handle VR since the FPS issues mean no viable VR until, or if, those FPS issues get fixed with OD, currently playing NMS in VR here and having a blast NMS can do VR, it is a shame FD apparently actually can't do-VR-anymore its way-too-hard without repairing current optimizations.
You missed Native PS5 support. PSVR2 support anyone? The response is filed in the same category as:
- Cobra MkIV for Playstation commanders / everyone
- Ship Interiors
- New SRVs
- New ships - e.g. Panther Clipper
- Voice comms that dont bug out every 30 seconds
- Console release of Odyssey
- The ability to hot-swap controllers on console
- 4k resolution for Playstation
- Cross-play
- Cross-save
- Being able to purchase from Blackmarket

VR is not going to be supported anymore in Odyssey.
We're not saying it's never coming, just that it's not being worked on at the moment and there are no immediate plans to.
