Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Upgraded the Cutlass:
All guns CF-337 Panthers
JS-400 powerplant
FR-76 shield
XL1 drive
48 size 1 Taskforce missiles
Nightfall coolers

Did first bounty hunting missions, only little one man fighters that seem to have little effect on my Cutlass, you get to hear them talking and panicking as they get shot up they even swear. Also in Hurston these 4k missions can be done very fast jumping from one to the next all those 4ks mount up!

Wow this is just amazing, i had no idea that their 10th year is going to be their 2nd best one out of this 10.

Chris need to write a book about this. This is like the best Success story i have ever seen. He managed to increase pledges after 7 years with out releasing a single game. He is like a super hero in a business world.

I'm pretty sure when this is all over there will be a documentary about it, although not produced by CR. I'm sure the credits will contain a "Special Thanks" to CR though.

A good number of the alleged ED players posting their SC exploits in reddit etc mention purchase of packages though. Not too indicative of players owning both games at any rate. But since the pledge counter does not seem to acknowledge that, maybe you are suggesting those posts are fake or something? 🤔 Either that or the massive exodus is not as massive as we all thought maybe? 😵

Because Elite players are used to earning ship with in-game credits. They aren't conditioned (yet) to paying real money for ships.
Probably new Elite players in SC are buying the basic pledges, and not whaling. Maybe also SC people who had played, jumped to Elite, and now returning to SC but arent buying anything, as they already own the game.
In both cases player numbers may be up, but historic money numbers are not.

I can assure people i do own Elite on both PC and Console, but are one of those tight Scottish types (Keith clan from Aberdeenshire apparently) so am just grinding away with in-game aUEC and not contributing to their coffers.

As for other Elite players, whenever i go into a server there are always "o7 new player here..." in global chat. Probably at least 2-4 asking stuff, presumably a few quiet ones, then a number of ex-Elite but experienced SC players. If i jump server it will be the same in the next server, and next one.
So i can fully believe SC's numbers have seen a boost since Odyssey.

There does seem to be quite a lot of defensive posts on Dangerous Discussion whenever SC comes up though, with an unwillingness to accept SC is in a better state than a few years ago, and an unwillingness to entertain an open mind to try. Some sort of tribalism or sunk-cost fallacy reflex? I'd like to think i'm very balanced in my views - not a hater or White Knight of Elite or SC - just a gamer looking at them from the gaming side.

Anyway i'm just grinding away and having fun in SC  o7

Got my "Orca", or maybe a posh Python:

Overall the ship feels like a proper space-home, not just a cockpit with stats attached.

Must say, you have an excellent eye for screenshots. I've seen some of your ED screenshots as well and they are a treat.

I think you could make Minesweeper look good!

Just don't go crazy spamming the pics (not that you are doing it!), it tends to annoy mobile users. We used to have a convention in this thread to put multiple pictures behind spoiler tags, although that seems to have been forgotten about.

Ok, that sounds pretty good (and when in doubt, I'm more interested in functionality than aesthetics). But when someone says "that looks good", I actually expect some aesthetics, whereas none of the features you mentioned are visible in this video (unless I missed something). So all the associations that came to my mind were the wave scanner in ED, compared to which this looks pretty pathetic.
Aye, it does look similar but for a change, whoever designed it actually put a bit of thought into it...the old scanner mode was functional but mainly used for mining. This new ping+scanner mode certainly ticks all my boxes...when you scan a ship with the passive scanner, you get everything on it from pilot, loadout, crime stat, cargo carried...lots of other bits and bobs. Works the same on mining ships when scanning rocks/asteroids although I've not tried mining in the PTU yet to test it out...task for tonight I reckon :)

Ah, i've got a decent collection of jokes about Scots and their relationship with money. Unfortunately, they haven't been acceptable in polite society for a good many years now :D

Ahhh is that per post, or per page?

I tend not to post very often, but dump a few out when i do

Better doesn't mean acceptable (and better here is somewhat questionable). And for a game that so heavily relies on player interaction for the most fun, the current desync issues are a major issue. Prior to that it was 30Ks.

And i'm sure you will find some people waxing lyrical for the old 3.X days when SC was much more stable and in a better condition than it is in now.

As an example, Odyssey is now in a better state than it was at launch, but i'm still not playing ED because performance is not acceptable.

It was more of a general thing. Some mobile users got rather antsy when there opened the thread to find themselves scrolling past loads of images, especially when not on wifi and were having to wait for images to load just so they could read the latest gossip about CIG. ;)

Ok, so if the passive scanner gives all that info, what does the active scanner give?
Lets you know where it is...the passive ship radar (not the scannery thing) will still pick up ships normally but if you're running low emissions or in a lagrange cloud or asteroid field waiting for victims or just hiding, passive ship radar won't pick you up...the active sonar ping will so you can then target the ship and then press the passive scanner mode to grab as much info as you can on it. The ping is more a ship's radar enhancement whereas the scanner mode is all target info on your HUD...or mining info or whatever. I pinged and scanned Olisar last night...gave me a ton of info on the HUD about the station.

For the moment it's one size fits all with the whole mechanics of it translating to mining as well as general use...same as the old one but better. Although I dread to mention it...plans are to make scanners more specific for task...miners will have miney-type scanners, fighters will have fighty-type scanners...that sort of thing. I'm not holding my breath waiting or anything... but what they've done with the radar/ping/scanning thing is pretty good for a first effort.

We've been stuck with the original one for years, same as the old HUD system. Both the new HUD and scannery thing compliment each other and work a lot better and more intuitively...certainly a step in the right direction.

While your personal and anecdotal view is totally respectable, the actual available numbers don’t seem to support the feeling though: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...sion-thread-v12.548510/page-1489#post-9428337

Concurrency figures would help here a lot to have a clearer picture, alas CIG‘s unprecedented transparency does not seem to offer those on a live basis. Although given the low figures offered by CR himself last year I can understand why.

I'm seeing a big old spread of behaviours amongst the 'refugees' on reddit. Both returnees and newbies. Plenty rocking Auroras or the odd Mustang. Plenty opting for the $84 Titan starter pack instead, or quickly moving onto it. (With a few then ironically advising other noobs that 'all you need is an Aurora' ;))

A smaller bunch heading into the $100-$300 range with stuff like Cutlass Blacks, Freelancers, Connies etc. And a few jumping straight into big pledges or the grey market and shooting past $500 almost immediately.

Probably quite representative of current backers ;)

Yep can totally believe it. (Plenty on reddit talking about bumping into guys they recognise from ED in-game in SC too. o7s abounding ;))

Well all boosts are relative right?

If the population isn't that huge then any new influx bumping into each other, or being an obvious addition to the whole, wouldn't be that unusual either.

In conclusion: vapid has probably killed every citizen on the West Coast ;)

Do any of the ships have personal quarters with the view? Like this ones:

Always wanted to put ship on Auto pilot, put on VR, and enjoy the view from the window of my space ship.
