Update 6 your thoughts?

So far, I'd say: not too shabby. For me personally, major performance increases. I can finally go back to my native 4k resolution where I've been at 2k since Odyssey launched. I like the new AMD upscaler. It's pretty nice although for some reason I can't choose the "balanced" option. I'm playing mostly with my graphic settings at a mix of ultra/high with some medium options using a GTX 1080. Swinging around 45-60 FPS.

I'm out in the black so I can only report on planet/exploration aspects. I'm happy to see that I no longer have major FPS drops when entering a planet's atmosphere. Everything is running pretty smooth I gotta say. Still seeing some repeat tiling on some planets, but for now I'll live with it given some of the improvements in performance and graphical output overall. No more FPS swings overall and it's sitting pretty steady. I did notice a lot of weird light flickering at random times. Jumping shadows. Also, the Anti-Aliasing is so weird. In the distance I see objects sort of sparkling/twinkling? I don't know how best to describe it.

Overall it's a step in the right direction. It still needs some finessing and I look forward to some of the planet tech changes that was discussed in the recent Dev Update. I'll check into Elite a little more often now.

For me not great, not terrible. Graphics and performance are still quite broken in my opinion. New AMD graphics thingy looks bad. Especially in motion. Everything is grainy, unsharp, like in very low resolution (I play at 1080p). Turning it off and play like before makes no big difference in performance. I have maybe +3-5 fps. I tried to delete all files in 'graphics' folder. It didn't help. So... I'm waiting for patch 7 :(

(GPU GTX1060 6GB, high setting on everything except shadows set to medium, frame rate capped to 60)

As an explorer, out in the black, I was hoping they would fix the extended jump ranges, but sadly, no, not in this update.
It seems daft that in order to do an extended jump in Odyssey, you have to load up Horizons to do it. (n)

So what are your thoughts on Update 6? what's still broken, what do love or hate. Personally after just a few minutes I can see a major improvement but time will tell..
Everything is running smoothly for me. Great Job for the Team. Will keep sending feedback if I find issues.

nothing major to celebrate in this patch.
Band aid FSR
No actual notable difference in culling / rendering optimisation
Fidelity looks bad at 1080p / 1440p above looks OK

Appreciate the bug fixes as well as the next person but selling this to us a "month's" worth of work, is laughable at best.

Wrong symbol for fixed, gimballed and turreted:

(I posted this elsewhere, and will include it here as well).

Here is a video that combines screen shots and some game play from today.

The video does not do justice to how sharp everything looked during live play.

I just took off, selected a random system about 200 Ly outside the bubble, and then selected a random landable planet.

The gameplay was a very smooth 60 fps throughout (max/monitor).

My system is rather modest: GTX 1660 Super, 16 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 3 CPU.

I did mess around with graphics settings, until I found a combination I liked. Generally speaking, I was on "high" for most, but did tweak things just for looks.

Took it for a quick spin - walked(/ran) around a station for a few minutes.

Previously I was getting drops of FPS down to 20-25; this time it stayed pretty stable at ~40 FPS, that's on a GTX 1070.

It looks promising although it was only for a few minutes. Will take it to some settlements tomorrow and see how that goes.

Framerates are noticeably better with the Quality FSR setting, concourses are no longer painful to look at (framerate wise), and the planets...

Note the terrain -- several kilometres away -- retains its sharpness and detail. The soft warp and weft of geological layers, the weathered edges of cliff faces, the sharp cracks of small canyons... all keep their character even at a distance.

I only have a sample size of one planet so far. But this looks great.

AND NO [REDACTED] MINECRAFT EFFECT!

The tanking framerate bug at certain settlements is still there. I went to a shutdown/on fire settlement and got 30 FPS where before I would get 10-15 but there was still a random occasional hitch where everything would stutter and bog right down, although it only lasts a second rather than 5-10 like before. However on trying to leave the settlement I got a crash to desktop twice in a row when trying to enter supercruise. Guess I'm waiting until update 7 before I try odyssey content again.

Just found out you get notoriety for murdering people on foot now. At least for civilians, I think. Did shoot people during a digital espionage mission and ended up with one notoriety. Not sure if I want to experiment with this more to find out what is what.

I tried 2 salvage missions and both POIs appeared where they were supposed to be; I went after some scavengers and one of them spotted me on my way in to the settlement - which may be new.

I can't judge any changes in performance because I installed a new video card just before the update dropped, and I don't have a frame of reference. My graphic quality and framerates have improved a whole lot :)... but I did throw a big piece of hardware at them.

Looks like my updater stalled again ¯\(ツ)
