Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 6

The problem that I see with giving notoriety for on-foot murders is that it's even more incentive for people to dunk on anarchy settlements specifically when they're farming power regulators or opinion polls or whatever, as if they didn't already have enough of a reason to single out those factions for farming.
Yep. That said though, its understandable to gain notoriety for murders in secure systems to be fair.

As a VR player I only want one thing, my FPS back. Update 6 has done no optimisations at all to the game, all they have done is introduced FSR. Now it does help the graphics card frame times a bit (not enough) at the expense of image quality but the CPU frame times are still crazy everywhere except in empty space and still way too high to maintain 90 FPS so the game still reprojects in VR. So a drop in quality from upsampling and then the same drop in quality from reprojection as before, overall this is worse! And you can't even pick FSR until you have chosen Antialiasing and then select "Balanced" and it auto selects performance. It's a right mess so I'll continue to not play at all.

Could you enlighten me what this % means? I've searched through the patch notes and I can only find the entry about the shield % being fixed in place.

Answering my own post after a further trawl of Issue Tracker - it’s an already reported problem:

…but doesn’t have the required confirmations yet. Time is getting short for the report and Expiration looms 😕

Done my bit.

I will try really hard to be positive.

Good news, it seems AMD FSR does lower your GPU usage a little bit, at ultra quality is not horrible. But you can see the visual diference between native and FSR (Edges, text, etc.)

Bad news, disable FSR and everything is the same as it used to be.

The frame drops are still massive with and without FSR, 1% low sometimes falling below half of the avg FPS, and .1% low going to the 1 digit territory (specially inside bases and startports).

Just in case someone wondering same setup as with Horizon, 1440p, ultra quality settings (R5 3600, 16GB DDR4 3200, RTX 2070-latest driver) .

Adding AMD FSR is the first step in the right direction I see since Odyssey launch (its been more than 2 months now).

But unless developers fix the game engine performance this wont really get better.

Main menu needs a hard coded FPS cap, and the starport menus still use over 90% of your GPU, is insane:
Absolutely what I have found. No actual game optimisations at all.

Yep. That said though, its understandable to gain notoriety for murders in secure systems to be fair.
Notoriety didn't exist when I started playing, it was a band-aid fix for mass cop-killing for the BGS which has been rendered obsolete by fdev actually fixing the effect that murders had on the BGS so it's no longer a source of unlimited negative influence.

"understandable" and "realistic" doesn't automatically equal "actually good for a video game".

  • A fix has been implemented for crimes not being properly cleared on death and requiring relog of the game.
I'm afraid Interstellar Bounties are still bugged @sallymorganmoore :(

I am marked as WANTED in Imperial systems, as per my Transactions screen:

But I paid off this bounty (and all of the other ones, which actually disappeared) in an Interstellar Factor. Here it is, showing no bounties:

And after logging out to the main menu and back into the game:

The bounty is also gone from the Transactions tab and I am no longer wanted in the Empire.

I dont know why I keep expecting anything different. This is a terrible update. Frame rate worse and visual quality worse in VR. Fabulous. Are you seriously telling us that not a single QA person tested on foot 2D mode to see that its a blurry mess? unbelievable.

hey buzz go to the vr forum, check out the bug thread, follow the link to the bug report and report it (dont forget to tick the repeatable) and hopefully we can get it fixed quick

Hmm, trying update no. 6 while playing on GFN servers (1080p resolution) and first feelings are that game performance is worse:
  • settlements fps drops during movement to single digits
  • game crashed after serie of fps drops when leaving settlement and trying jump to another system
  • game menus are blurred (they are worse readable now as it was before). I used nvidia filters to make it little more sharper which works, it is still not great but at least usable.
  • trying use AMD Super-resolution results with even more uglier and blurred menus.

Will see tomorrow how it wil look on my 1070Ti.

For God's sake those are actions I need to happen, right the freak when I need to, not after I fiddle around position and hold it down. I might need to activate that panel or snatch that item lickity split. Not to mention all the ways that's going to make people re-press and screw up.

These are the type of things that we should hear about in advance with a chance for feedback. I can tell you right now, that this is a major negative impact on what I do that's not C&P but just punishment via the UI. Every update seems to have one of these surprise hammer-to-the-fingers items. I wish it would stop.
You must be assuming they did it on purpose...

PULSE RED IS STILL WHITE AND NOT RED
Ship colors are still way off... WAY too bright in hangar, WAY to dark in space...
so...
well nope, not a good patch for me...
i ll come back to test this on patch 7 then...

(Try not to cheer too loudly, you might wake someone) Elite Dangerous should now exit "cleanly" without the 'black screen hang'.
WOOOOOO! YEAAAAAAH! (I’m bad at taking orders!)
Glass shader optimisations have been made, along with fixes and scalability based on quality settings.
So glad to see this!
Everything in this section is awesome. I can’t wait to hop on later and see how things have improved.
A fix has been implemented for previously invisible scatter rocks and organics (The cheers! Thank you once again for your help with supporting this fix).
Alright, now I can take my SRV back out for a joyride without fear of hitting an invisible rock!

Additionally, I’m so glad to see FSR implemented, and those camera suite changes are gonna be so nice.

All in all, this looks to be an outstanding update, worth a reinstall of Odyssey.

turn on bloom then look
you know what... NO. I am not really interested in this any more... i do have enough.
FPS are even worse than before again. now 22fps in HANGAR... well lol, before 6 i had around 30... top job!
i just want to play a game and not play a graphics optimizer where every setting can up everything for your experience.
screw this... iam out...
