Update 6 your thoughts?

Is this an active settlement or unpowered and crawling with scavs?

If active, is there a skimmer? In the notes they said skimmers now pay less attention to on foot persons and more to ships. If SRVs are classified as ships in the code, well... that'd be why the aggro range is boosted.
It was an inactive settlement - 8 scavengers, so not necessarily crawling with them.

The thing that bothers me the most is that without the Executioner scope mod in the darkness with NV, I couldn't even see the scavenger (only where the shots were coming from); even zooming in with the scope they were tiny. Wish I'd have taken a screen shot now to illustrate it. This definitely didn't happen before. It's almost as if their detection range is unlimited.

Yeah, a previous mission to the same site had them running out when I was within 120m of the base in the SRV; I'd got out at that point and had to swat three of them.

So next time I got the same mission (kill scavengers) to the same site, I made sure to park the SRV way outside to make sure I didn't alert them. Which didn't work in the end as outlined in the previous post.

One other thing: they were all red on my SRV scanner before I got to the settlement - however, they used to be yellow and go red when engaged. I don't see anything in the patch notes about this (and should they be in there anyway?). Something's definitely changed.
You probably missed the email message from the mission giver that said they were tipped off and expecting you. Had the same today, ended up landing 2k out, came in on the SRV lights off and parked 500m out and snuck the whole way in. That kept the base from instantly alerting. My first time in, I alerted the whole base just by being to close with my ship.

Just checked - no messages in my inbox. Three different missions for Scavenging and the same each time - enemies go red once the SRV is within ~400m. sharp shooters see you from the other side of the planet. No tip-off messages on-screen on in mail.

Played update 6 yesterday and i have to say im impressed. First time ever since even the alpha where i was able to play with my friend from another continent without having to worry about connectivity even once. We instanced together the first try, that had never happened before. And flying together in a ship also worked for once. We were finally able to play a mission together for once.

So far i am pleased with update 6 just for that alone

After a good few hrs. play last night it messing with the graphics settings it seems the FSR setting increases the fps but drastically reduces quality, it looks like you don't have AA selected at all. Others have said a "band aid" fix and I would have to agree. Settlements etc. with it off still take a massive fps drop also when near NPCs.
The 1 second loot delay looks like its not a popular implementation and hopefully will be dropped.
Planet surfaces and LOD are an improvement but no where near where the game needs to be.
Various bugs still being reported, things FDev's QC should have easily spotted.
Update 6 is a step in the right direction but TBH its nowhere near where the game needs to be.

This loot delay... is that an option?

Because when I tested yesterday evening, I looted as soon as I pressed "E". Didn't have to hold it down for 1 second.

Update 6 IMO
  1. Space looks awesome (y)
  2. Planets look even better (y)
  3. Planet Surfaces simply breath taking (y)
  4. Concourse - stable 60FPS (up from 40 / 50) for the first time since launch for me (y)
  5. Settlements - poor 25/30FPS (down from 40 / 50) although seems smooth but still stutters getting u killed (n)
So more space than legs for me - buts that's ok too for now.

have they fixed the custom input config files being reset from horizons to odyssey?

if they have i'll load odyssey and check it out... update 6 you say, who knows, may be it's time to step over from horizons...

or maybe not?

I think you need to reselect your config from the drop down manually but the actual settings are fine - well that was my experience. Although honestly going back to EDH for me is difficult now as the new UI, information and ease of finding things is SOOOOOO much better in EDO - also not being able to get out of my SRV to soak in a planet is now so much a part of my personal gameplay loop feels like going backwards.

You should save your keybinds in a separate file (surprisingly there still isn't an UI way to do that, but it's supported since ED day 1 if you do it manually. i think they are in %localappdata%\Frontiers\Options or something like that), so you can reselect it when you switch

Yep, saw that, you can make a back up and overwrite those files as far as i know... but yeah, ima try tonight after updating and report back ^^ o7

Definitely not that far - I landed on the pad at one of the extraction settlements with the HAB+STO+PWR building at one end and the EXT buildings a few hundred metres away. Got the attention of about 6 of the scavengers immediately, but one tucked behind the PWR building still didn't notice anything from the main firefight and the two at the EXT annex as usual had no clue anything was going on.

But they certainly pay more attention to ships than they used to!

It's not only about making a backup, i copy the file, rename it, change a title tag inside it, and i have my own setting to select in the combo menu of keybindigs, with the additional feature that they don't mess with it as they do with the default custom file.
(still wondering why there still isn't an official UI support for this, since it works since day one, and for day one i mean ED original release)

need to make a batch file for this process... buuuut, the weather is good and i'd rather go outside and play in the sun... ED:O update...a subject for later in the day, cheers!

lol, no batch file needed, you do it once, and have your own settings in the list forever :p

(the only disavantage is that, since they don mess with it, when they add new keybindings you won't get their defaults)

Space and planets look much better in this update.
Sadly, no performance gains for me, everything is like in Update 5, meaning that I still get 45-50FPS in concourse and the glass shader thing still drops the FPS by a t least 15.
On planets FPS is 50-60, which is not good, didn't had the chance to try settlements yet.
This is on a somewhat decent PC - Ryzen 3600X, GTX1080Ti, 32GB DDR4 3600, SSDs all around.
Resolution is 1440p and most settings are on Ultra/max, only shadows are at High. And DOF and Blur are OFF.

FSR on UltraQuality bumps FPS up by 15-30%, but game doesn't look good with it.

Is there something I can do to reset the performance, because deleting the Graphics folder in the options didn't help?
