Let me explain
So, sometimes I leave my game up and running in the background while I'm doing other things, be they on or off the computer. I minimized the game while I had my Cobra, Bonnie, cruising away from Compton Dock in Markanomovoy. While I was putzing around on the interwebs, I get a notice that ED has crashed. No biggie, I think, as I had been cruising at top speed for about 5-10 minutes, so I figured I was well away from the station when I crashed. I started the game up again a little while later, and casually logged into my character before going to the bathroom. I stayed long enough to see my game load, and I'm really lucky I did. I look at the screen, and notice something is very wrong. I'm seeing weird clipping action going on, and strange polygons about, then I realize - I spawned inside the station wall. Normally, death in ED is not necessarily very intimidating, since you can just pay the insurance and be right back up and playing again, of course, but I had recently pimped ol' Bonnie, to the tune of almost 2.5 million, and I knew I was rather low on funds, and insurance costs scale with the cost of parts and such, so... yeah, I was freaking out! I grab the controller, then notice I've been given a trespass warning, and I have something like 25 seconds to get out of the station before they light me up. Crap.
After turning about frantically for a few seconds, I find and get into the inside of the station from the wall with about 20 seconds left to go, then waste 5 more precious seconds going the wrong way, deeper into the station, away from the letterbox! I turn around at the far end of the station after my mistake, with something like 10-15 seconds left to go until I become a bright fiery piñata. I swing her around, and pray to the gaming gods that, just this once, the game doesn't turn into a slide show as I'm trying to leave the station. Four pips to engines, roll on the power, and then I boost at top speed! Guys, 10 seconds have never been so long, yet so short in my entire life. I see the clock ticking down: 5... 4... 3... 2...
I clear the letterbox with 1 SECOND to go. 200 credit fine.
Best 200 credits I've ever spent in Elite Dangerous! And by far the most memorable moment I've ever had in-game...
...And all thanks to a glitch
Best part? I never even sat down, and my girlfriend watched the entire thing from the couch! And she was legitimately impressed!
How's that for awesome?
