State of the Game

it is hard to gauge the scale of a problem with something as scarce as the ps5 ...considering i've yet to see one in person and that thing has been out for what.. 9 months.

but if you've ever worked with imu's ...and accelerometers and such in general. It's definitely not cheap to keep from registering drift...and probably extremely hard to do it at the level that games are sensitive to. They require frequent recalibration with off the shelf components for things like auto-pilots and flight controllers for RC land. And those off the shelf parts aren't cheap. Every single chip is slightly different and you can't really use the same calibration numbers on each without some varying error.

i do not envy the engineer who is tasked with writing the consumer code and picking the hardware within a budget to design game controllers that are motion sensitive. very expensive or complicated startup calibration the player has to follow each time they want to play. probably both.

edit: though this problem could also be similar to what musk said about tesla's ... the quality of prototypes are high. The quality at mass production where supply is greater than demand is high. The quality of getting from prototype to that level of mass production is not high. That's the time period where the manufacturer is struggling to meet demand and so is skirting the QA to get the numbers up. It's always worse for quality to buy while in this time period ...and that's where PS5's have been thus far.
AFAIR Sony knew exactly what they were doing and that expected MTBF (or whatever this expected time before failure should be named) is so low,
that controllers will keep failing every few months of proper and careful but semi-intense usage.

Only because I don't have "Lefty" in my font library any longer!

Sorry about the long wait on some of the streams - I've had a few times where I'm about to jump in and RL interferes! (HOW DARE IT!)
Hahaha, RIGHT?! (Which is why the current "relogging despawns everything, no looting for you!" thing drives me absolutely mental - I log out constantly when my daughter wants something, need to work, go and make tea, etc.)

nintendo has had fun with that issue as well.. though, theirs seem to be more batch related than a general issue with the chip they chose. I've not had any problems with my switch or any of the controllers i have for it(and i have like 8 total - since it's basically just a means to play mario party between zelda releases)

Jump to sc, fly a few km away (let's say halfway between planetary orbiting and glide altitute), turn back and land again.
Loot is refilled.

Oh, and data ports of blue (mission) wreckages of satellites are "refilled" without any additional tricks.
The good, old "stay near data port and keep relogging" loop works.
I keep my lvl5 plasma shotgun ready though, bad guys tend to respawn too.

EDIT: you an farm power regulators this way too, preferably in a POI with a ship that has two of them, chance for an intact one is pretty low.

I'm still parked around bovomit. Got tired of searching for guardian killing robots and fleets of octagonal ships ...and have just been periodically filling my carrier with platinum instead.

my npc crew are freeloading wastes of space ...not opting to tag along with me in my other ships to help collect platinum. they just sit there twiddling their thumbs. Waiting for their big pay day despite already being billionaires.

And back on topic:
a proper EDO selfie.

BTW : have you noticed that since patch 6 ground troops became much more aggressive and start shooting continuously at your ship as soon as it gets in their weapon range?
I like this change, makes them easier to find from above and send warm greetings when they are not using lights.
TBH mate, I've not played the game for quite a while and not even loaded EDO, so, no, I've not noticed. But I am blindy trying to find my way out of a corner of three boimes in Valheim - a satanic place where swamps, mistlands and ashlands all merge - it's blacker than a black thing on being very black day, and frankly about as much fun as a red hot poker up your BH*. Zut allors!

* ymmv :oops:

Mean Time Between Failure.

An oft misunderstood term, both in meaning and practicality. I've always preferred the bathtub curve (of/for failures).

Meet me in Colonia! I've had a few little trips out (including my first attempt to get to Beagle) where the ship was destroyed (I won't mention the same WD that got me twice!) and it was start over.
Thanks fro the invite. I'll let you know. In the middle of some other stuff and some multiplayer stuff ATM.

Far more fun than playing it safe all of the time! 🥳
Absolutely, I have a metric crap ton of screenshots and a few videos of different planets and stuff, and, of course, my memories, as flawed as they may get over time.

OTOH, I have a friend who left for the deep black about two weeks after my initial departure and he's currently 63,000 LY out and still going; over 8 months now. I hope he makes it back in one piece. He'll probably never need to grind for cash, ever.

Well, at like 68 views, he's in the top 12 elite dangerous videos released in the last day by view count.
I hope you are joking!
He, who complained about influencers, have become one.
If you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.
Certainly not that... Watch one of mine - even the short snippets - every one is just game ;)
