Is Second Life still a thing then? I assumed it went the way of Pokémon Go

it has a steady bunch of residents - most of my friends are there for 10-14 years, I'm a youngster basically, not quite 8 years on record yet. it is likely to go on like this for a decade or more - Linden Research has sold their 2nd attempt at such a virtual space (Sansar) and is back to developing Second life further - slowly but constantly adding new features to it.
this said the first time experience can be awkward - when i came to SL, my first two hours were fighting with a bunch of inappropriate pictures flooding on my screen and dealing with the voice active by default - there are some quite freaky people in the newbie area - but once out of it, it is a really pleasant experience.
i basically enjoy the music scene there, have a blast with fashion and enjoy a virtual relationship in parallel to my real life one (it's not a secret, she knows about it). Furthermore i like building and decorating and scripting - currently scripting a free roaming female animesh, who is kind of a house guest - roaming around freely, using furniture, swimming, diving enjoying herself on the beach and so on.She has her own wardrobe to choose from and does it on her own. She is a dance server too, with a variety of dances - she can dance on her own or invite others to dance with her - she has a marvelous belly dance outfit as well and quite good belly dances - so she is a performer as well.
It's fun, I like scripting, even the implementation of lsl (SL's scripting language) can drive me nuts sometimes - so poorly implemented. But then again with access to external hardware via the web, it can be quite powerful as well - like using a chat bot to make her talk and so on.

Many North America tribes named their child by the name of the first thing they saw after the birth, outside the tent.
Usually, the children was allowed to change his/her name at least once upon reaching adulthood.
just because it's a stone statue older than dirt...doesn't mean it's not going to get you banned for posting it in a forum that for some reason insists on being accessible to the precious tiny children who apparently play online but have never used the internet.
really inappropriate highly sexual nude pictures of males, who didn't even talk to me at all - they were just sending these pictures flooding my screen and I didn't know how to stop this - of course not, I was a newbie.
