The laptop was overheating itself literally melting portions of the plastic housing.

Ill never trust a gaming laptop again after that thing. It would burn the hell out of your legs and pants, singing fabric.

So I think I got it fixed so i can play. When I swapped cards i found the primary cards power cord was not plugged all the way in this fixed the problem with the bars going all over. I tried running it with both cards in after this and found that while playable the performance is better with just one card. I still find this less than ideal as i have other games that work well with 2 cards and don't want to have to disassemble my computer to just play one of the games. Frontier needs to address this issue. Its odd that Horizons had no problem running with 2 cards when one wasn't even plugged all the way in

You don't need to disassemble your computer to play Odyssey, all you need to do is to create a game profile for Odyssey in Adrenalin and you can disable crossfire there just for Odyssey play. While other games will still use crossfire. :)

I tried playing with both cards in and crossfire disabled and it was causing problems

Horizon and Odyssey are 2 different games, you sure you created game profile for Odyssey and not for Horizon ? I'm not sure if your using steam or launcher but in Frontier/EDlaunch/Products/ you have 2 folder one is for Horizon "elite-Dangerous-64" and one for Odyssey "elite-dangerous-odyssey-64" both folder contain a exe file with the same name EiliteDangerous64.exe.

Yea i would go with Lord Rak on this one Gerald , I actually quit using my VR even . I dropped crossfire for one 1080TI 12GB vddr ,but i have to select weather i launch Odyssey or Horizons in the launcher through my oculus launcher i select play in desktop and when the ED launcher pops up i select what I want to play and unless I want to do foot missions i always go into horizons .
