Elite Dangerous Issue Report - 10/08/2021

Anti-Aliasing Not Working Correctly: Some changes will go in Update 7 or 8, with significant improvements, but a full anti-aliasing system is slated for later this year.
This is perhaps the single best news I’ve ever read regarding not only Odyssey, but Elite Dangerous as a whole.

For its entire lifespan, Elite has been notoriously plagued by the infamous shimmery jagged edges around objects that see little reduction through the game’s current AA methods, only able to be overcome through brute force using super-sampling, a method only viable on higher-end setups.

With Odyssey’s poor performance, this made using SS nearly impossible for even the best PCs on the market. When combined with AA being broken in Odyssey, it just made things worse. And without functioning AA, using FSR really hurts the image quality.

It may have been brought to the forefront because of Odyssey, but the issue of AA has always been a constant stain on an otherwise beautiful game. I’m so happy to hear that it’s finally going to be addressed, and I look forward to seeing the results.

Fleet carrier menu no longer shows stock levels. Also it's not displaying ship availability in the shipyard correctly. Also the nameplate is showing up black even though I've selected white. The lighting on the nameplate on the fleet carriers doesn't look right either. I've had issues in the tracker for a long time now about these bugs. I really hope they get addressed soon. Managing the FC is just not as fun.

Side note, we should have some sort of interior on the FC with APEX services. The current outpost interior would be perfect, you could just re-use most of that. Wouldn't it be great to see the FC jump from a view overlooking the deck?

  1. Anti-Aliasing Not Working Correctly: Some changes will go in Update 7 or 8, with significant improvements, but a full anti-aliasing system is slated for later this year.
  2. NPC Fighter Kills In Conflict Zones Count As Progression: Currently under investigation.
Seeing FDev mention they are investigating the fighter exploit is such good news that it genuinely makes me happy.

Also I like how Zack gives the news of a "full anti-aliasing system later this year" almost apologizing for it coming later the year, when it is in fact one of the best news of the post.

Greetings Commanders!

I'd like to introduce you to something new. Below is our first Top 20 Issues table, summarising the highest voted issues on the Issue Tracker. As part of being open and honest about the game's development, we'll be regularly posting updated versions of this table and discussing it on our Supercruise News streams.

Note: the status and planned release of each issue is subject to change as various factors affect the ongoing development schedule.

Top 20 Issues:

  1. Problems With Lighting and Illumination: We're happy to say this is now fixed since Update 6, having spent some time to monitor it afterwards. Any new issues to do with lighting should now be reported on the Issue Tracker as normal.

  2. Degraded Terrain Textures Compared To Horizons: A lot of the work for this went into Update 6, with some finishing touches coming in Update 7.

  3. Tiling Planetary Features: Changing the way planets are generated signifies a huge undertaking, so we're still investigating this.

  4. Low FPS Performance In Odyssey: This work will continue up to the end of the year, with improvements added already in Update 6, we know there is more to do.

  5. Limited Gameplay During Apex Shuttle Rides: Nothing to share at this time.

  6. Game Hangs On Exit Sometimes: Currently under investigation, we'll aim for the next update but it's one of the fixes more likely to end up in a later update.

  7. Invincible Thargoid Heart: We know this is a longstanding issue which has a complex cause. It's still being investigated and hasn't been forgotten. If you would like to contribute some information to this issue and others, please read this post.

  8. Anti-Aliasing Not Working Correctly: Some changes will go in Update 7 or 8, with significant improvements, but a full anti-aliasing system is slated for later this year.

  9. Joystick Buttons 32+ Not Working: Not started as other issues are prioritised.

  10. Expose Telemetry Data For Motion Simulators: We're currently discussing this internally, and may decide against it. If it does go ahead, it won't be before Update 8.

  11. NHSS Signals In Odyssey That Should Contain Interceptor Are Empty: Appears to be fixed, should arrive in Update 7 pending some further QA testing.

  12. Increased Performance Problems Since Update 5: Some further improvements are coming in Update 7, while general optimisation will be ongoing. The coming change won't be a fix for everyone, but will resolve some of the drops players are seeing.

  13. Supercruise Stuck At '0' Time Remaining With Tunnel Forming: Currently under investigation.

  14. Fleet Carrier Modules And Finances Not Calculated Towards Assets: In progress, slated for Update 7.

  15. NPC Fighter Kills In Conflict Zones Count As Progression: Currently under investigation.

  16. Support Missions Have Been Culled: Fix should be incoming in Update 7.

  17. A Previously Present Codex Entry Is Now Missing: Under investigation. Currently considered lower priority.

  18. System & Galaxy Map Misalignment In Widescreen Aspect Ratios: In progress, unlikely for Update 7.

  19. Stolen Tritium Cannot Be Donated Into A Fleet Carrier's Fuel Depot: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

  20. Missions and Rewards Not Sharing With The Team: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

This is a reflection of the current scenario, and due to the ever-evolving nature of game development, the planned release for these fixes is subject to change. Let us know what you think of this report below!

See you in the black Commanders,

On ps4 when menu freeze I just exit to main gamemenu, and that usually fixes it.
Have you checked for update, game and console.
Other than this not sure...

Tried exiting to main menu. Reinstalling as well. By exiting to game menu do you mean the main menu?
Yea, he does. What worked for me on ps4 was opening internal panel and opening the engineers page or codex, then after closing it out, it seemed to fix this. I've had this problem, for a long time. Not constantly, but definitely regularly.

I've given up though and pretty much have taken an extended sabbatical because it's clear to me none of the persisting issues existing in Horizons are ever going to be fixed and I'm convinced we will never see Odyssey on console.

I haven't used the PS4 web browser to visit the Frontier forums, but I've used the browser in general and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy lol. It sucks that console players are being left behind but I'd hope all these fixes they're applying to Odyssey will translate to console release down the line. Odyssey as it has been for the last few months would have been a nightmare for consoles and luckily they decided to halt the release to work out the funky mess they created. Only workaround I can offer is using your phone for bug reports. I've used my phone to visit these forums will no problems.
See thats where I'm finding the most fault. I strongly believe that with its "inferior" technology, optimizing for console first would fix most of the PC problems by default

Hurray! for sharing Issue Tracker information 😁

Boo! to all my fellow CMDRs voting for the wrong issues 😅

(only joking, everyone has different pet peeves and trying to martial votes is a bit like herding cats)

As to the six vote limit - if you find you want to vote for a new pressing issue and have already used all of your votes, go to My Issues/Voted and select your least favourite voted-for issue. You will un-vote it and have “Number of votes left = 1” instead of zero.

Now everyone go and vote for https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/33957 and https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/41272 thankyouverymuch 😀

How can the lighting issue be fixed? It's pitch black on planet most of the time on the dark side. Nice to have planet tech but if you cannot see it what is the point? Also the night vision is way too dark. I just don't understand how can they qualify this as fixed in any way! .... I always landing against a black backdrop so save the performance and ditch any planet rendering all together :D

@Zac Cocken Really nice list. But the performance thing it a little bit irritating. The biggest issue was and is still performance. It´s not possible to find the "low fps performance in odyssey" on the issue tracker.

Where can we upvote the "low fps performance in odyssey"?

Where it says "Vote" (white text, orange background) next to the top item in your second screenshot.
But as it's already 4th on the list and "in progress" on the tracker in the first post, it'd probably be a waste of a vote to add more to it now.

I vote as an UL because I thought the limit was 4 votes per player.
It seems to have increased to 6 with the Odyssey release.

Of course, there's more confirmed bugs around now as well, so we can still vote for a smaller proportion of the total bugs, but it's still useful.

Okay, you want kidding me right. ... Where is the issue? not the Vote button, jesus.

Am I the only person who thinks it's ridiculous to limit our "issue voting" to 6 votes in a game with nigh unlimited bugs? Seriously is the thought process behind this; if we have less votes available, they'll be required to do less work? It's asinine at the very least
