Elite Dangerous Issue Report - 10/08/2021

Honestly, big ticket issues still remaining on console are still stuck on our foreheads...

Just noticed that issue 18, widescreen map scaling issues, is being worked on.
That's great news, it's the first time that I've seen FD acknowledge any problems with widescreen formats.
However, it doesn't mention the fact that the menus superimposed on the maps don't take account of the widescreen format.
So the menu elements are placed towards the edge of a nominal 16:9 screen rather than at the edges of an actual 21:9 (or more).
Which rather makes a nonsense of the extra width available.

This is now worse in Odyssey than it was in Horizons because there are menu elements at both sides of the screen.
The question to FD is, does the ongoing work on widescreen map scaling include the proper placement of the menus ?
Even though no timescale is given for this work, I'm willing to wait for this.
And if FD don't have a widescreen to test it on, they are more than welcome to borrow mine for a couple of weeks.

I really urge everybody here to expect delays on each and everything on this list as is company costum.
Sadly hearing that the next update won't arrive till next month is realy pushing whatever timetable there was out further and further.. when half of the serious issues on the top of the tracker can't even be solved by Update 7 we are realistically talking about the end of the year before Odyssey can be called a fully released game.

My main worry is however that things will get half fixed like the lighting (which definitely isn't fully fixed yet) and then not returned to because it's 'good enough' and now there are more pressing things to do.

Honestly it's great that they are trying and the communication of this is definitely to be encouraged but I just feel more exasperated that we are even further away from getting the ship to stop sinking before we can enjoy the sailing holiday we all payed for.

System & Galaxy Map Misalignment In Widescreen Aspect Ratios: In progress, unlikely for Update 7.
Glad to see my pet bug is on the radar :D
Also appreciate this big picture style list in general as it's something I've been eager to see for quite some time now (y)

How can the lighting issue be fixed? It's pitch black on planet most of the time on the dark side. Nice to have planet tech but if you cannot see it what is the point? Also the night vision is way too dark. I just don't understand how can they qualify this as fixed in any way! .... I always landing against a black backdrop so save the performance and ditch any planet rendering all together :D
That's... that's how it works. That's how light works. On a planet. When you're on the side facing away from the sun. According to science.

I haven't used the PS4 web browser to visit the Frontier forums, but I've used the browser in general and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy lol. It sucks that console players are being left behind but I'd hope all these fixes they're applying to Odyssey will translate to console release down the line. Odyssey as it has been for the last few months would have been a nightmare for consoles and luckily they decided to halt the release to work out the funky mess they created. Only workaround I can offer is using your phone for bug reports. I've used my phone to visit these forums will no problems.
You think it's still coming to console? That's so cute

On ps4 when menu freeze I just exit to main gamemenu, and that usually fixes it.
Have you checked for update, game and console.
Other than this not sure...
When that used to happen to me closing the game completely then starting it up again used to work for me. Don't know if it still works haven't played since Odyssey release was cancelled......sorry delayed

So when Odyssey does release on console and prove you wrong, you gonna give Bottom Hat your stuphz in penance?
I hope they do prove me wrong, this is/was my favourite game ever I've pumped over 4000hrs into it(sad I know) I just don't see it happening

They said it was on hold for now but still planned on it. So unless your source is just unbridled cynicism, we'll just stick to Frontier's word for now.
And we all know how reliable that has been especially in recent times. I really hope I'm proved wrong.

They've literally said they're going to. They were planning to go full bore on that right after they launched (way too early) on PC, and had to push it back because Odyssey was broken on launch. They have already stated that after they've rectified the broken state that Odyssey released in, they are then going to take that fixed version of the game, and go full bore on console release.

The only reason you don't have a release date is because they do not presently have a set date at which they can say "all major issues with Odyssey will be resolved by that day, and then we're starting console work". But once they reach that point? Console is going to get a new release window.

They've had our money and now we're being forced from the game so it'll go back to being PC only. Odyssey will never arrive on console, how many console players are even left

You honestly believe that

They're done with it on console, they so desperately want to be SC but they'll never get there if they keep dragging consoles along.

There are better ways to deal with uncertainty than this, just saying.

There's a difference between promising to release an amazing expansion with all the working bells and whistles and it falling flat on its face for months. It's another to promise to release an expansion and not delivering an expansion, at all. Take solace in that fact.
