GALNET - 11 AUG 3307 - Aegis Probed by Board of Inquiry

Hmm. Alexandria jumps from HIP 16538 [-24.625 / -84.0625 / -139.34375], Scrivener Dredger jumps from Perseus Dark Region KC-V c2-2 [-368.03125 / -321.6875 / -1047.625] both with a quoted 500 LY range.

The distance between those two systems is 999.684 LY - suspiciously close to 1000 LY! - so they could in theory have met up at the midpoint [-196.328125 / -202.875 / -593.484375]

The nearest star to that midpoint is Synuefai NY-V b21-2 which is slightly too far for the Alexandria (502 LY) - checking EDSM, Synuefai OY-V b21-0 is within range of the Alexandria and only 500.7 LY from the Scriveners, so depending on how that quoted 500 LY range is rounded might be in range of both. (Especially since Galnet says the Scrivener only has a similar range to Fleet Carriers - it might be slightly better)

Synuefai OY-V b21-1 and HIP 17631 are also within 503 LY of both the start points. No other systems recorded on EDSM are better, and checking the map manually, EDSM seems to have good coverage of that area so there's probably not a better one being missed - I can't see an obvious one by poking around on the map.

I'd go and have a look but I'm 22,000 LY away, so apologies to anyone this sends on a wild goose chase. But that distance being so closely to exactly the quoted combined range of the two vessels is an impressive coincidence if they didn't mean it!

I had a quick look at those systems but didn't see anything. Nice idea though :)

If there'd actually been any systems in the minimal intersection of the spheres it'd have been more interesting, I guess. And with California being ~1000LY from the bubble it's probably not quite as large a coincidence as it might initially appear.

Thanks for checking.

Was one of the best interactive events in the game. Just certain people salty because they didnt get their way. Perfectly awesome lore.

Oh I don't disagree. Seeing the footage from that, I wish I'd been there.

But, I call it like I see it. It's lore now, because it happened. At the time, though, it was FDev giving Canonn the finger. I personally think more groups should force FDev's hand. Makes for interesting gameplay and stories.

Ya it was fun. But ya it also wasnt FD giving Canonn the finger. My attempt at a synopsis: FD gives players a new toy(gnosis) - players figure out a way to use new toy to get around existing mechanics (permit lock bubble) - FD plays along... but lets be clear it was obvious that interdiction was the most likely outcome. The Thargoids were introduced to us through interdictions...The region was Permit Locked....FD even warned about the newly discovered Hydra interceptors just prior to jump.... The biggest issue was people on forums etc up-selling the idea that this would be a wonderful exploration opportunity (honestly think it was the players who trolled themselves), and thargoid huggers were much more prevalent then also... so alot went in unarmed tinfoil buckets.... It was glorious... The only downside i remember is FD showed their hand a little early by releasing the Galnet article too soon.

PS Aegis warned us then ... And now people are trying to destroy the shield that protects us from the Thargoid Menace !

Aegis has never done anything worthwhile in the fight against the Thargoids. During the year-and-a-half long invasion, the Thargoids' movement was extremely predictable through the Eagle Eye reconnaissance network; yet they did absolutely nothing to pre-evacuate or bolster the defenses of any of the systems that were identified as likely invasion candidates. They never helped to evacuate burning stations or clear the Thargoids out of all the systems they failed to protect, and in the aftermath of the battles, they didn't contribute a single ton of material towards getting the damaged stations back online.

All of this work was left to the members of the Independent Pilots' Federation and the various organizations within it. Operation Ida and the Anti-Xeno Initiative spearheaded the charge, pushed back the alien invaders and rebuilt the bubble, all while Aegis sat around playing 3D chess in their megaship's crew lounge. Even Aegis's few research initiatives relied entirely on the gruntwork of the Pilots' Federation. The one and only thing they accomplished was the misplacing the single largest collection of alien artifacts ever assembled in human history, an event which may go down as one of the greatest archeological losses of all time.

Defund Aegis and send what resources they have left to the people who actually got things done.

Under the shield of Aegis much of the Pleiades expansion took place. All those military convoys you see every day are moving resources people and equipment to fight the thargoid menace. It was good that the Independent pilots did their part in defending the Pleiades as well.. but lets not get hubris and start thinking the galaxy revolves around us.

Not to fight the Thargoids, but to expand into their territory and antagonize them. If we had left them alone, that'd be better for everyone, but no....

400billions stars, and we go where another civilization is already located to fight them for a bunch of stars. Human smart.

Humanity expands… we go where the resources are… meta-alloys are a strategic resource…. Isnt there a berth waiting for you on the Perdition? 😉

Meta alloy are made by thargs. They are not a natural resource. We basically steal it from them, and I fully understand it make them mad.

In fact, they are relatively nice, because they don't attack for stealing meta alloy. They just do that weird sad noise.

And thinking we shouldn't poke at an alien race to start a freaking war doesn't make me a weird doom cultist either. I guess I'm the odd one who'd like to live in peace.

Yes- Thargs farm bioengineered organisms to create meta-alloys. I think hollowways will eventually discover that the process is a natural one just enhanced by the thargoids to increase production. Doesnt make the meta-alloys any less strategic. Lets not get into who poked who…. Its all about controlling this vital resource. And defeating the Thargoid Menace ! (Peace makes for boring pew pew video games)

I'd like to get into who poked whom.
My point is, it's not a menace until we make one. I think it'd be better not to.

I don't remember a single time in Human history were we have been right to commit genocide. At best, future generations will look at us in disgust and shame. At worst, the thargs will win the war, and there won't be any future generations.
I'd like future generation to be proud of us instead, but that might be too much to ask for.

Fighting back does not constitute genocide. I always wonder how anytime we fight back against the Thargoids it magically becomes Genocide... War is War

Nah, it was inevitable. Have you heard about the Dark Forest theory by Liu Cixin? Given the two axioms of cosmic sociology:
  1. Survival is the primary need of civilization
  2. Civilization continuously grows and expands, but the total matter in the universe remains constant.
Where does that lead us?

I mean, we tried to geneocide them. That's a truth^^ We failed, but there was an attempt.

A theory is a theory. Doing insterstellar war just for a theory is quite far fetched. Tell all the dead they died because we had a "hunch". Trying to exterminate everything on sight will most likely lead US to be exterminated anyway.
