State of the Game

they monitor other things besides the forum i think they mentioned. Perhaps they're just way too busy on twitch and youtube and the like.

they'll probably be back when fdev finally releases update 7 and the forum descends into another Doom Spiral
Spiral, Spiral Sir ?, surely you jest !, would such control even be possible given the overwhelming weight of doom if such an update was to occur?

I certainly agree when 7 hits vocality will go up again, but it still seems a bit muted.

they probably aren't given much of an ability or budget to orchestrate things that are fun for the community. What's left in their job is basically "News Giver". Which is only really good when there's good news to give. it's been damage control bonanza for the past couple months and for the foreseeable future. So probably not a great job to have at the moment.

If i had it my way, a CM should be directly in control over the narrative. Having direct and frequent contact with the players, they would manage the narrative to adapt to what the playerbase needs and when they need it to happen. They see a overall sentiment shifting a certain direction, they can adjust the narrative to try and shift it back. They're responsible for steering the playerbase into a sentiment that is healthy for the longterm success of the game. And they're given the ability to do that by building the narrative events that happen and when they happen - including side stories / events that occur in parallel to the main narrative and have little to nothing to do with it. Managing the community thru the game in a proactive way... rather than just being the management of fallout.

I just want FD to give me control over a Thargoid interceptor and I'll make explorers poop themselves as I creep up on them and provide a personal Gnosis :D

Glad you're electrified again and hope there wasn't much damage.

This week is a free for all, choose your poison young man and make merry with it!

You expect the players to believe that we've been able to reverse engineer a thargoid ship enough to create our own to control after decades of reverse engineering them even though it only took us like a year to do that with guardian ships and tech?

Sir. this is a realistic space combat/trading simulation game...not some arcadey imitation! Nobody would accept such a thing. I mean, sure, thargoids are a space faring race that far....far predates the millions of years old Guardian war and has survived the AI successors of the Guardians that destroyed the guardians and beat them back ...and has mysteriously not advanced their tech in millions of years since and somehow humans who are basically babies in space can drive them back (even before guardians). But the players draw the line at human piloted organic based ships. That's just crazy.

No, I mean I DM the part of a Thargoid. I'll act all normal and then start playing mind games :D

Thanks Brother Hat 07. Mostly limbs and a few trees near me the southern part of the state got it worse but as tropical storms and hurricane's go we're usually lucky up here in New England.

Sweet general shenanigans it is! Not sure about those other two anyhow.

And now an out of context cat:

it would have been an interesting aspect to the game for players to be able to spawn a character as either human, or thargoid.

with an entire game balance and system built out for thargoids around their organic tech and all that in parallel to the human stuff.

I mean, it's not like Fdev is doing anything with thargoids that are in any way connected to the lore around thargoids. They've been sitting in a holding pattern for years.

Might as well just let the players control the interaction between the two civilizations directly. Plus, sell a bunch of shop stuff for thargoid ships.

does 'NPC' Barreh not understand how instancing and game modes work though? Everyone would just combat log and restart in solo. or are you banking on the idea that after looking at the loading screen so many times that they've gone brain numb to anything going on in the game other than loading screens and deciding if it's time for another screenshot or live streaming of a vista for likes?

No, I'd disable them, and fly really close to them and then do the Thargoid air horn thing.

I fitted a pair of huge air horns to my old little fiesta, under the bonnet, so the sound came out of the grill but you couldn't see them.

I also wired the horn button to a separate place in the car, so anyone in the passenger side could use it too.

It was awesome driving to work with my crazy friend back then!
