ion-batteries have a problem, when they get older - the electrodes eventually develop "extensions", which might lead to a short circuit, if those reach the other electrode. Due to the high energy density in such a battery, there is immediately fire which looks actually like sodium coming in contact with air - intensive burn, which in the end ignites everything nearby. But you have this problem as well right in your pocket - your smart phone can eventually get really nasty, if it's battery is old - so careful with older smart phones, those could start burning in a location, where you want it burning the least of all placesAt the minute I think the battery tech is almost but not quite there for a lot of makers. GM are recalling all EV models because of battery issues, and makers like Tesla have had problems with fires as well.
I'd be interested in knowing how battery tech deals with crashes these days
So in car crash what could lead to a short circuit in the battery pack is when something metallic would poke through it - there is a chance in this case to ignite the car.
BTW in the past someone dared me to gender swap Grom (so I did) but in keeping with the Changing Rooms vibe- what about a quick retrofit gender swapped Grom as Carol Smillie?
