Module Storage and Bookmarks Rising From 120 to 200 in Patch 7

They can still do - there is a limit of ships per station, but not per galaxy :D
And with EDO ship features in Galmap - it may make a better bookmarking system than their bookmarking management... which kinda !oops!

The fact that people use ships for storage and ships for bookmarks just points out terrible game design.

Because if they were stored locally and people reinstalled the game/installed on a new copy of Windows/tried to log in on a different machine all their bookmarks would be gone.
Microsoft created this wonderful utility called export / import bookmarks ¯\(ツ)

The bookmarks thing amazes the heck out of me.

The obvious amount is infinite, why it can't be I don't have a clue.

Then... they re did the UI, and allowed them to be put into groups... but... didn't allow you to make your own groups or organise things how you actually wanted to.
It'd maddening.

The reason they gave was server side limitations. No idea personally, but then neither have 99% of people on here claiming otherwise.

Which happens with "visited stars" already.

It'd be a file that you could save and replace.

And we already have players who complain because they have lost their "visited stars" list and why can't FDEV just give it back to them because they know where they have been!

I can imagine players re-installing and not knowing that bookmarks are locally stored and complaining that all their valuable bookmarks have vanished. I guess that's a good argument for sidewinder markers for stations, at least they wouldn't vanish on re-install.

Personally I would suggest 2 systems, I would be quite happy with locally stored personal bookmarks and server stored shared or otherwise "important" bookmarks. Actually just thinking it could be done quite easily if bookmarks were made part of the journal output, that way programs like EDDiscovery could rebuild your bookmark list for you, but of course that would still require players to back up their journal files so there's still some player action required, and I can tell you having worked in IT for ten years, that's not going to happen in a lot of cases!

Obvious issues with version compatability aside, I do chuckle yet again when Fdev give us something nice and the community is

they have previously done the storage upgrade, many cmdrs lost many modules
we had a warning..but not everyone reads the forums all the time.
this sounds worse and a recipe for modules to vanish, again.......

not sure where they left the notes on the last upgrade....too bad..memo is a memo for a reason..post-its fall off and should never appear on objects near computers..its a dead giveaway that this person has no filing or organizational skills..
but a memo like this one should be in the code as a warning memo somewhere in the vicinity of other notes, memo's and warnings.

This is a bit concerning. Did they restore those at all? There are all sorts of modules in storage with different levels of engineering, it would be difficult for a player to keep track of what was there and what was lost. Especially with unique double engineered modules now..

Great, more grind... I don't think I've used more than 20 yet and that took me years, so now I have to do how many more bookmarks to achieve Elite III in Galaxy Map usage?
