Module Storage and Bookmarks Rising From 120 to 200 in Patch 7

I was going to try and find a "Cletus"from the Simpsons picture for this thread, but I am incredibly fond of randomness, and this has simply made my evening!
Allow me:

the servers cost money per month
we pay the game once and play for years.

no wonder they try to keep servers costs to minimum
Yeah, with modules ok. (But they committed a million carriers and stuff... But whatever ok)

With bookmarks.... Just store them locally! Who cares if players can manually edit their...bookmarks in a text editor....

I appreciate that sentiment, but it's 2021 and it shouldn't be an issue to have a thousand bookmarks or more. Even then, worst case they could be stored locally (like your visited stars data).

All of the stats need to be non-local stored - as we can login from any machine (I use 2 - PC & Laptop) it avoids synchronisation issues.
(although the visited stars database is locally stored... 🤷‍♂️)
Exactly.

And you could just... I don't know if this is breaking the laws of in physics or revolutionising the world of computing but... You could even.....

Mark which character made the bookmark!!!!!!! You could just use their name, or maybe some computer wizard could come up with some kind of magical "ID" kind of thing? (Sorry this is just a vague concept right now!!!)

Sorry for the sarcasm it isn't aimed at anyone in an particular

they have previously done the storage upgrade, many cmdrs lost many modules
we had a warning..but not everyone reads the forums all the time.
this sounds worse and a recipe for modules to vanish, again.......

not sure where they left the notes on the last upgrade....too bad..memo is a memo for a reason..post-its fall off and should never appear on objects near computers..its a dead giveaway that this person has no filing or organizational skills..
but a memo like this one should be in the code as a warning memo somewhere in the vicinity of other notes, memo's and warnings.

I think my example was muddy ;)

With bookmarks: If they were locally stored and I made on this machine would not be visible on my other - nor if I visit a friend who plays and log in to my account on his PC.

Un-muddy now, I hope!

I don't believe your sarcasm was aimed at any participants here, either.

The bookmarks thing amazes the heck out of me.

The obvious amount is infinite, why it can't be I don't have a clue.

Then... they re did the UI, and allowed them to be put into groups... but... didn't allow you to make your own groups or organise things how you actually wanted to.
It'd maddening.
As a trucker hopping around alot chasing the market tbe limit hits me often BUT WHY can we and still can only navigate the list fron top to bottom? The Nav panel can as you’d expect go both ways but the “longest list” can’t….

No I understand

I just think it's more beneficial to use local storage.

At the absolute least, they could use local storage to tell it how you want the bookmarks organised, bookmark 1 is blue, and in group 5 and stuff.

You know, if they really feel like elite is so often being played by people who are changing machines so often they absolutely must store the bookmarks themselves on the server.

(Or they could give you local ones, and server ones!)

I must be playing wrong.

Just checked 2 of my accounts (the 3rd is dormant, waiting for a RL friend who is unwell) and only have 72 & 79 modules stored, mostly swap-outs for a couple of ships depending on purpose and the 'big & expensive, hard-to-get-in-Colonia, modules to equip an Anaconda if I get bored again.

ETA: Bookmarks I do run out of altogether too often... even the extra 80 is better than none, although more would still be good!

Carriers are paying for that with cosmetics
But that doesnt really work for Bookmarks, right?
Pretty sure many many features that use server space (which is pretty darn cheap with the AWS systems they seem to use) are "subsidised" by other features that directly bring in Arx.

Come on.

Yes, everything is cheap, until it isnt anymore.
Keep in mind they need to keep the data for the people that quit the game like 3 years ago... or more
