Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I are a soldier now. It made me laugh that a pistol shot was what did it. Also 6% Deadly.

I've been working a little on my Artemis suit. I don't need a lot from it, but I wanted Night Vision and Jump Assist. I had a G2 with Night Vision, and another G2 with Jump Assist, so after comparing mat requirements, I decided my best bet was to upgrade the one with Night Vision on it to G3, and then add Jump Assist.

So now I have a G3 Artemis with Night Vision, and I just need a few more Patrol Routes to add the Jump Assist.

While messing around with the suit, I found that I had a free "Exobiologist Mostly Directionless" cosmetic. I guess you get one with each rank or something. So, I put it on. I can't stop laughing. Actual green thumbs, plus everything else. I look hilarious. I'm a mean green scanning machine!

That green really sets your eyes off!!

Damn.

Mission timed out. Great fun running around not finding anything, running out of power, overloading doors, opening lockers and finding nothing. All part of the learning curve! :D

After I logged back in, the computer thing I needed had shifted from the HAB to the PWR building - potergeists! - but where the F is the entrance? Scavs! Damn them! Back into the ship! Photon torpedoes, maxiumum yield, full spread!

Run around... now! (obsure quote).

Abandon mission. Back to the station.

Another try later.

EDIT

No abandoned settlments missions available. Instead, I've chosen a low threat combat one - eliminate 10 scavs from a settlment. Flew to the site then Apex'd out. It was in darkness so I chose to swap Dom suits to the one with nght vision - a lower grade suit but at least I'll be able to see buildings :(

I have a feeling I'l die horribly.

Yep. Died. In about 10 seconds. Shot a scav with my shotgun (five times) which appeared to do no damage whatsoever. His mate came along and fragged me. Ludicrous gibs.

I got the Financial Projections mostly from HAB data ports while I was looking for Opinion Polls :)

I got the Employee Genetic Data and Genetic Research from mission rewards. You just need 20 total, of any of them. I didn't find any Biological Samples but I didn't need them.

Its the financial projections I have problems with getting. The genetic stuff since its mission rewards its a slow but sure grind to get em, but the damn financials just dont drop at all the damn HABS.

I bought myself a Dolphin, and what a wonderful little ship it is. It runs so cool like crazy.
And with my new Dolphin, I made a trip to Betelgeuse, and holy cow that star is big. It was a fun trip, my first exploration far from the bubble.

I've read a ton of posts about the "best" exploration ship, and the DBX and Anaconda is often mentioned, But to me the Dolphin is a great beginner exploration ship.

On my trip I found quite a few planets that had not been scanned/mapped, so I made a few credits from that. I think my next exploration trip will be to the Horsehead Nebula.

I now know why people like traveling out into the black, it's so relaxing just jumping from system to system, and scanning as you go along.

I'm in a Marlinist-aligned squadron and right now I'm busy with domestic duties. My todo list if I can ever get the time:

-make an expedition to the Crab Pulsar
-kill my first Thargoid interceptor
-travel to Colonia on my own instead of using a fleet carrier
-explore Odin's Hold (they've got a lot of undiscovered systems)
-make an expedition to the Great Annihilator
-Get a fleet carrier
-flip control of a lore-important system like Facece or something

I've been to Colonia before, but I hitched a ride on a friend's fleet carrier and spent the travel time offline, so i haven't gotten to appreciate how much work it takes to get there.
Yea, it's quite the task to plot the route from what I understand, but it is also half the fun
There are several factors involved in how big a task it is.
  • ship single jump range (duh :D )
  • fuel scoop
  • ship's heat handling when scooping
  • are you going to use neutron boost
  • are you going to beeline there on well throdden path or are you going to explore on the way

I'd say that 40+ Ly single jump range ship with ok heat handling and decent scoop can easily buckyball 2000 Ly/hour without neutron boosts.
That gives you a ballpark figure of how long it will take just to travel there, old skool. :)

I have a ship with that specifications, and I would probably beeline there with neutron boosts. So i guesstimate somewhat less than 10 hours, depending on my attention span. That's...still a tall order.

Alright, fair point. I guess I'll go with a DBX or a Krait Phantom, or a AspX, for the long journey. But for now I'll stick with my Dolphin, for shorter trips.

Current record is still one hour 38 minutes: https://www.sagittarius-eye.com/sol-to-colonia-record-stomped/ ;)
Neutron boosting is slightly problematic, as the fields only start ~5000 ly into the trip. So maybe a couple of hours until you can lay the hammer down, then another couple of hours using Neutrons. Ten minutes near Colonia to drop down (or up) from the Neutron layer to the Colonia bubble. Don't forget an A-rated AFMU and possibly some mats for refilling the AFMU.

DBX has a better view than the Dolphin, but a worse scoop (i.e. DBX can have a size 4 scoop for a size 5 FSD whikle the Dolphin can get a size 5 scoop for a size 4 FSD - or, if you put a Guardian booster in that size 5 slot, still a size 4 scoop). AspX has an unfortunate distribution of optional slot sizes.
