Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Is it like account-wide unlock?

Account wide vendor. Makes sense in game when you get up to that part. Make sure you get the mission from the red orb near the starter ship if you haven’t seen it. I think that’s the right mission…

wait I’m still a noob at no mans sky, yes that vendor has the same stuff you claim from any save. That much is true.

Okay, so as is my usual NMS ritual, every new update I TRY to like the game again. Maybe this will be the time it sticks? I genuinely want to like it.

So I installed it, booted up my 70+ hour save game.

Found I was parked on the nexus(?) thingy. Very nice graphics, lovely smooth movement on my old system, good good.

Fly out in to space. I'll head back to that planet there, I think I have a base there? Maybe? Not sure if that icon is my base but let's go.

Spool up the drive to fly there ... no fuel. Need asteroids. Attacked by pirates. INFURIATING mouse combat controls.

OK, killed the pirates. Still no fuel, no asteroids. Wait, I probably just need to craft fuel from my inventory.

Yes. Have fuel.

Fly to planet, great.

Oh, it's not my base, it's one of those bases with a landing pad and terminals.

I don't like it. Sorry.

Uninstalled. Again.

Did I just pick the wrong planet / system or is the Settlement Planetary Map actually meant to be a trap?

I drop in nearby, meet the indicated contact (with the icon above them) and immediately the settlement gets attacked by sentinels and I get whacked even without engaging them. Luckily I had a manual save not long before so loaded that - so did three more attempts at investigating this settlement and each time I get killed by the sentinels. Now I have this stupid settlement icon on the HUD compass.

(Thank goodness for manual saves.)

The attacks are preset events... once there first attack is completed it resets the next attack event timer to starting from zero. So you can start building and every 15min-2hours you could get a new settlement member that has tech that raises or lowers how fast the next attack is...
After the attack there status will show on the settlement progress display..

It might help to restart the game from scratch. I've found trying to dive into my old saves difficult. The starting section of the game has vastly improved I think though i suppose the mileage you get here depends on when you last did those sections.
Ah, could be.

LOL! Ok. Well. If you get to a settlement that's under attack from sentinels, it's most likely a settlement where you can save them from the sentinels and then be offered to take over the overseer role. It's very similar in that sense to how you can get a free freighter. If you haven't upgraded your multitool anything, it can be a more ardent task to kill the sentinels, but it's doable. It's like ED Odyssey, you need to be mobile, hide while reloading, and such. But if you have an upgraded multitool and shields, then you can basically stand in the center of them and just shoot one at a time.

Oh, btw, shoot those barrels they drop, it not only adds ammunition, but restores your shield, so it's harder for them to kill you.

You make new save for explorer and anything you unlock can be claimed in old, moldy save. So I understand now. I wouldn't start all over, but that is option you don't need to 100% commit to maybe.
Right, all you earn in the Exploration 3 is accessible in all your old (or new) save files. However, if you haven't done the Exploration part yet, you do kind'a start from scratch in it. Broken ship etc, but with a few more items than normal/survival does. Also, each milestone/step/phase etc, you earn stuff, like material and blueprints. So it's overall easier than the usual restart.

I realized that I might have suggested that you keep all the rewards you get in the steps, but I assume it's not correct. Like upgrades, blueprints for technology that you can get through normal game play aren't part of those to-keep rewards, however, the unique rewards you get at the end of each phase I suspect are permanent. It's the first time I do an expedition so I'm guessing quite a bit how things work.

Wish we could keep the ship we spawn with.
It's very nice. I already have an exotic in my main save, and the whole deck in another save, so it wouldn't matter much to me. But I do like the pain job on it. And it would be nice to keep it as a memory of the event.

I thought about giving this expedition thing a go but I am stuck at finding out what it entails. Have I just not found a NMS forum or a decent repository of info on this and other aspects of NMS? (I hate what Fandom has done with E D wiki and I am loath to get sucked into their NMS one.)

You create a new save - and select the Expeditions option rather than the usual Normal, Creative, Survival or Permadeath.

After that, the discovery log & popups basically carry you through what you need to do at each stage. Initially, it's very like the regular game in that you have a damaged starship that you have to repair... then build a base, etc.

It's glitched out a few times for me so far, to the point where I probably want to cancel it and start again (after an hour). Possibly in single player mode.

I've only dabbled in it so far.
Poisonous planet with toxic storms occurring every time you blink, so be careful.
I'm going to have to hoof it far away from my ship to get to a location where I can build a base, the planet seems crowded, as all players doing this expedition are on the same planet, however I need the blueprint for the base computer first.
I haven't spent enough time to actually look at all the steps to get the blueprint, so I suppose the thing for me to do next is sit in my ship, and go over all the different tech trees.
I may be too impatient of a person to actually do an expedition, we'll see.

Might give the expedition a go when the New World open beta is over in a few days.

Thanks for the info guys, love this forum so very much.
