Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 7 Notes

How do you so consistently screw up this bad ? Honestly does anyone at FDEV actually know how the game works anymore ? Credibility going through the floor lol. In other industries you would just lose your jobs if you delivered such poor software to your customers, but hey we are just gamers we dont matter right ? gamers are stupid and keep buying paintjobs eh, must be nice having the luxury to be wholly incompetent without serious risk of consequence
I guess the time is coming for second big @David Braben apologize.

It's like a couple of years ago when they launched the ship kit for the Imperial Clipper and it would stop you jumping out the system. None of it is intentional, but things are seemingly so interlinked that changing one thing has a ripple effect. I'd consider this to be a typical update TBH. It will get put back eventually, but adding stuff to the game is like opening Pandora's box.
"Eventually" could mean anything between hotfix within a week, or an update in several years (either having the potential to wreck other stuff in the process). I start to believe the end game of Elite is to test our patience, as part of a social experiment.

@sallymorganmoore Sorry to be a pain, but I think this is going to be one of those decisions that requires either explanation or reversion. As someone already pointed out, it's hard to understand why NPCs now think we have to die for downloading cat pictures.

This suffers from the same blight I mentioned on some other changes I mentioned in previous updates; it forces commanders into stealing or assault to obtain crafting materials, even if they don't want to play that way. The game needs more legal alternatives to material gathering, not forcing yet another requirement for theft and murder.

Who thought this was a good idea, and more importantly why?
I actually thought it was a bigger let down that no one paid any attention when you stood there downloading settlement or faction secrets and walked about with them after, what is the point of the download timer then? It is obviously meant to provide gameplay tension, will I be spotted? I was actually cancelling my download part way through when NPCs were approaching before I realised they didnt pay any attention. The game is called Elite Dangerous right. I dont get why you think deciding to perform subversive upgrades via Engineers (engineers arent meant to be part of normal society) shouldnt force you to decide to perform subversive behaviours and act accordingly ie dont get spotted. Suggestions for tweaking the AI ie warning for first spot or your current faction status etc make more sense in this game-world.

I think there should be a mix.. forcing you into an illegal gameplay with no option means you have to murder everyone in the bar area for instance, there is no way to do it.. if you turn off the alarms that involves murder and notoriety too.

This new change is not for the better. There should be a mix of legal and illegal downloads just like there is for data points in old Horizons settlements that you had to access.

I can't get my Manticore Intimidator and the TK-Eclipse at the Ingineur Kit Fowler or Jude Navarro with bigger Magazine Size. I need help...

Does anyone else experience sudden freeze in settlement CZ for several (5-10) seconds? Could be related to teams (e.g. when your team mate is joining the instance). Everything freezes so that even Alt-Tab doesn't work and then after 10 seconds it goes back to normal. There were some also frame drops to single digit fps but nothing like that before. FPS counter doesn't update to low numbers neither before, nor after the freeze to show frame rate drop.
Yes, every single CZ when it starts, the game will freeze once or twice for that duration, god its infuriating

Well, it have to be damn close to a jesus patch, i'll decide after upd8 if edo is F.U.B.A.R. or not.
No pressure then.

Good build those expectations up.

There was also a glitch with quick chat window on foot. When you press Enter followed by combination of "/t " (space at the end) - it starts to show some jumping content not allowing to enter text anymore. Overall messages panel on foot looks like it is from some free demo version - probably needs separate "getting feedback thread" on the forum as in its current form it is barely useful.

Has anyone noticed that NPC in high-level planetary conflict zones seems far easier to kill?

I have standard Manticore weapons and im one or two-shot killing them when before the update it was 3-5 shots to kill.

GREETINGS COMMANDERS:
Very quickly (I'm still in conversations over this, so this is why I'm sending this in an informal way.

I've updated the below patch note:

  • Tweaks added for data port download/upload AI responses.
    • AI now consider any downloading and uploading to be a crime. < This needed writing way better.
    • The act of downloading all data is now considered illegal BUT having data you have then downloaded, is only illegal if the data itself is illegal.
    • The fact that the act of downloading data was not considered illegal before, was an issue.
Working through more conversations following our discussions here yesterday on dev side, so bear with me with more of your tags and comments.

Thanks! o7

Or how you jump far higher on high G planets than before? Or how the weapons for ships are either way weaker or far stronger than before? Or how you cannot add effects to suits and weapons? Or how you cannot transfer a ship if it is has cargo? Or any of the other dozens and dozens of bizarre bugs and errors?

Yes. I noticed. :)
