Odyssey for PS4

G'day commanders,
Frustrating to say the least. I was so excited over the Odyssey news and all the excitement, newness, wonder and everything else that came with it has been crushed bit by bit with every PC release, fix, addition, discussion etc... To the point it has become something I feel angry about.
Maybe nobody else feels this way but to me it's becoming an insult that it continues to go unaddressed.
I started this game on PC at the beginning. Shortly after my PC died and I migrated eventually to Xbox for Horizons etc... All my friends being on PS4 finally forced me to move again to another console. Now that my friends and have become quite prosperous in the game started a squadron etc... We are finding that everything has pretty much been in vain.
Frontier seems to care very little whether we exiat, what our journey or story is, how much time we have spent pouring hours, money and effort into their product or anything else we have to offer or say about their game.
Ill say it again... Its an insult.
I want to say I couldn't care any less whether I play Odyssey or not, but as angry as I am and as much as the experience has now been ruined for me, that still wouldn't be true. I love this game or I wouldn't be here venting.
I have always supported this game and had the dev.'s backs. Always tried to be supportive and optimistic, always tried to understand their timelines and missed fixes, bug issues and everything else but what has that gotten me, my squadron or any other console, ED players? Nothing, that's what. Not a thing. No thanks, no sorry, no explanation (not really anyway), no acknowledgement, not a thing. Just a vague unconfirmed comment about PC being fixed first and some console back burner nonsense.
There are times My squadron and I would like to play but the distaste we have towards elite now always ends up with us doing something else sometimes just out of spite.
I know this means nothing but hey, I needed a good venting after nearly 6 months of hardly playing, visiting the forums or even watching 3rd party content.
I decided to check in and guess what? Nothings changed. The community doesn't even remember consoles do they?
Pfffft, whatever. DM me when someone from Frontier gives a . Won't be holding my breath!

I know its not Odyssey specific, but there was this...

"In addition to Odyssey Update 7 we’re pleased to confirm that a number of these fixes and QoL improvements will be deployed to Horizons players on both PC and console in September – we will of course share full patch notes for both around release."

From:

Which was then pushed to this week...

For what it's worth, I agree with you and I know there are others that lurk in the PlayStation back water of this forum that feel the same way.

Hopefully with a huge retail sales opportunity looming, Frontier will see fit to at least provide some solid information for the future of Odyssey on console...

Being a PS4 user myself, I am also a little annoyed about Odyssey, or lack of it.
My main gripe is that the PC guys are having all the fun and discovering everything (new bio's and geo's) whilst we have to sit back and watch from afar.

Personally I wish that Frontier didn't release Odyssey on any platform until they had fully tested it in-house. Then, and only then, should they had released it, so that we were all on an even keel when it comes to getting our names down for being the first to discover something or getting first footfall.

I can only hope that there will be a lot of new content when/if Odyssey is released for consoles, so that we all have a level playing field.

But saying all that, due to other 'real life' let downs before, I have learnt not to get too excited about anything, the same goes for Odyssey too. Personally I have convinced myself that it can't be nerfed enough to work on the old tech of a PS4, so I am not expecting to ever play it. That way if one day we get an announcement from Frontier saying something like...
"Sorry guys but due to unforseen circumstances Odyssey will not be released for consoles/old consoles now, blah blah blah"
... then I won't be disappointed.

But if they can pull it off and get it to work on old consoles, then happy days, although I will still wait until I see good reviews first from other PS4 users before buying it.

I likewise found myself staying away from Elite on PlayStation following the initial Odyssey release “debacle” … at first because of continuous connectivity errors but then just, well, nothing was pulling me back and the lack of “attention” for consoles from FDev left me feeling less inclined to play.

I‘ve now started playing again and slowly remembering all of the controls! Predictably I need to refresh my material supplies and such so there will be mining and SRV‘ing to come soon. I find myself ambivalent when it comes to Odyssey … I‘ve never personally been particularly bothered about “space legs” - it’s just not why I bought the game. But, if console were not to get Odyssey … well, that would be pretty big to all us PS and XBox customers so, for that reason alone, I hope it does come to console at some point.

For me - though … we’re coming up to almost a year since the PS5 and XBox One Series X (?) were released … and knowing that the engine is capable of so much more than we are currently getting via backwards compatibility is the real kick in the teeth.

Yeah, its just completely disheartening to many ps4 players I know as well as our small squadron that the game goes on while we lose that "new game" experience that everyone else gets.
At first it was to fix bugs, now their adding new things...
Its as if console is now out of the picture all together and we can't even get recognition as patrons of the game. We bought the same game and got the same promise and then get treated like an afterthought.

I have been a player since before horizons and had to start over twice from PC to Xbox then to PS4, grinding each time to regain my ranks. I now have 20 some odd ships and a fleet carrier. If this is done and PC is the only way to move forward, then we deserve to know.
I don't want to do this grind again just to play Odyssey I dont feel I should have to and neither should anyone else. If it comes to that then transfer everything.
Maybe they will come out at some point and say, hey, sorry. This is still in our plans. But I'm not confident either. Even a "we're thinking about ya and are working towards getting it done would be something. But again, at this point I'm not even sure I care like I used to. Its slowly losing its appeal.
Trying to put this aside and play more these days to get back the feeling we used to have for this game, but with all the things we see PC doing while we are stuck in limbo... Well, it just hurts. Its hurtful. Only description I have right now.
And, I know its not just me.

PS:
Hey FDev... I look at the pics and videos of the star port interiors and wonder how cool that must be to walk around in there... How awesome it must be to see the scope of things, ship size... Craft entering and leaving.
How cool that must be. They say it is but how would any of us know?
Sincerely PS4

Personally i say screw frontier! We were good enough for them to take our money with the base game then when Horizons came out. Now they act like console players aren't worthy to be included in Odysey. Well i say them and go ahead and give me a ban from the forums for speaking the truth. At this point i dont care anymore.

I feel the same. I am really frustrated. We are treated like players of second choice. The last ones to pick for a sports class team.

I love Elite and sunk many many many hours into it. We deserve AT LEAST a ROUGH estimation, when we will get Odyssey. This has to do with respect to our Console Community. To say, "Hey PC guys, here is your present and we will do thousands of feature increments and increments" s not fair, considering, that WE don't even get ANY info.

This is disrespectful in every way. Sally said in the other threat,,they are trying to make odyssey perfect before porting it over to us. A goal that no software reaches ever!

And let's be honest. At least the half or more than the half on us run on the basic versions of the consoles. Are we gonna get a smooth running highly optimized port of EDO or a half baked version while the pc bois and gurls are happy? I don't want to migrate to PC and do all this grind again. I want to stay on console, where my friends are. I payed for ED the full price and we don't evennget propper bugfixupdates anymore. If you have a look at the actual update: It breaks more, than it brings. Thanks FD...
Thanks for the silence, thanks for the ignorance, thanks for the disrepsect for us console players.

And did you notice how FPS drop right now if you visit a crowded system full of randoms these days due to the screwed netcode? It got worse. When beyond released things went smooth. But somehow I feel FD silently abandoned us and makes the console community starve in order to tell us in ten months, that EDO won't be released for us at all. If they keep us waiting without any info the console community will have left for other games with better lifetime support.

They really do treat us like dirt. And they leave their CM's to take the blunt of the community frustration.

True, most of the CMs have been awesome. At least from my experiences up in the gen forums. I doubt they even get down here. That'd be "slumming it" lol
I was angry one day up there and cussed in a post, which is rare for me, and got thread banned. I don't blame them for that or the game status. Its Frontier management that brings this upon themselves.

A lot of us are trying to hang on and stay with the game... I'm beginning to think they want us to just go away so they can forget console release as one Cmdr brought up earlier in this thread.

Is there a way to ask FD for an official statement from the management (not the CMs, they can only repeat the manager's mantra)? I'm kinda fed up with this disrespect for our console community.

There is a way and it involves sales of Arx, the game itself, and number of people playing the game on console to grind to a halt. I think we're on track for that to happen. :)

I was really excited for Odyssey when the original reveal happened. Really excited.

I lost a bit of interest when the focus on FPS combat was revealed, that's not my bag, but I was (am) still interested in the legs aspect from an immersion point of view. One of the main things I always wanted in ED was moving talking NPCs - not just those still images and text versions in the station menus (which existed way back in Frontier: Elite 2).

Now, after the launch debacle, it's long ongoing aftermath, and the resultant indefinite hold on console development, the whole Odyssey thing now seems like some myth happening in another universe ... literally even!

I do still jump into ED ocassionally, mostly just to take the Corvette from Jameson to the local Haz RES and vent my frustration by mercilessly blowing up wanteds for a while.

I still live in hope, but... it's been a long time since that original reveal now and the console version seems to be further away than ever.

I too got excited when i saw the horizons (consoles too) update, and the increased storage and bookmarks were really useful. Then the issues with weapons were discovered and yet again consoles are back of the queue for the fix to get the weapons to work at the engineered levels, possibly this week, probably next week. As the posters above have recognised, the CM's take all the brunt of the frustration from users (consoles included), but there's never anything from higher up to actually apologise for the mess. It seems that some token checking is done on updates before release but essentially the player community does the testing for frontier when an update is released and we are then so grateful when they fix the issues that they caused in the first place!

I totally get why the majority of the Devs are working to fix the PC version and the CMs are spending most of their time on channelling all of the info between Devs and community to move this along but it does seem strange to me that a games development company the size of FDev aren't apparently able to multi-task?

I'm presuming (hoping) that the whole "we've nothing to tell you" that we've been told for the past 4 months is because of FDev's idea that games development is akin to working for MI6 in terms of secrecy and that they are in fact in a side room somewhere actually having a look at the feasibility of porting EDO to previous gen/current gen consoles...as that seems like a fairly sensible idea given that this would be their next move?

As consoles make up a third of their player base it might be a super awesome idea maybe the next time they're asked they actually give an update that isn't "we've nothing to tell you" as after 4 months that is pretty shocking customer service...unless of course they've not even looked at the feasibility of porting to console in which case erm yeah that :-/

Not sure of the full extent, but efficient, overcharged lasers, plasmas etc, the damage effect on anything that has been engineered is the same as unengineered after the Horizons "QoL" update.

Given that Odyssey was originally supposed to release in Dec 2020 on PC and console together at once, you'd have thought that - almost a year later - they would have at least something resembling a plan.
