Odyssey VR specific bug reports - please contribute!

A new issue report has appeared:

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42615 - SteamVR overlay not working

…but is it a SteamVR problem or a VREDO problem? I use the standalone launcher so I can’t check, but hopefully someone else can confirm (or not) the issue.
They also need to check if steam hasn't just turned it off. There has just been an update. It can just be unticked in steam client and in game.

Yeah, Steam have made a few UI changes recently, but it's not unheard of it for it to mess around with configured options after updates.

edit: missed an import word

I never thought I’d see the day, but after all these years…
Map UI - The speed of map panning when in VR mode has been increased.
…time to have a zoom around the map with wild abandon 😁 That’s #40168 knocked on the head.

The only other thing I spotted was under the “cannot reproduce anymore” section:
Scatter now appear in both eyes for the player, when viewed in VR.
Which I hope includes the texture mismatch I was still seeing.

I couldn’t see the fix for Headlook Comms Bug that was slated for this Update - I may have missed it but I’ll have a go next time I’m playing. Edit: I may have very well missed it, because it was right there all along:
Comms - Fixed tab switching on the comms panel when looking at it in freelook.
As always, if you spot any undocumented fixes then please let me know - and check to see if you’ve now got some free votes spare 👍

So the comms panel does work now... kinda. That is, if you look at it, it is active again. Yet any messages sent (at least by AI) instantly vanishes still. Workaround is still pressing 2 to activate the comms panel to see any chat messages.

Yet I encountered something much worse and wondered if I am the only one since today: once I open the system map (usually twice) and get back to the cockpit view my FPS drops to the bottom. It is so laggy that even turning my head results in single frames/pictures jumping around. I cannot even exit the game anymore from within the game. I tested this out several times, parked 3 km in front of a space station (also noticed it on a planet approach), looking right at the station. FPS all normal on each test (I do not see my actual FPS ingame but it's fluent enough). Open system map, exit map. If FPS is still fine, open the map again, exit again. Then it stutters to death for me. I tested without VR and there it works just fine. Using HP Reverb 2 with Steam VR and a GTX 1080. Anyone else noticed such issues since today?

Unfortunately, this means the game, at least for me, became unplayable in VR (at some point I do have to open the map). Very, very sad.

edit: for anyone else affected: you can restore FPS by either going back to main menu or activating the VR overlay and wait a few seconds. At least that worked for me on the Windows mixed reality overlay. Still meh but better than nothing.

edit 2: after giving it some thought I decided to submit an issue. After going back and forth between the steps the whole text got lost (was wondering if/where it asks for my dxdiag or something). On my 2nd attempt it said issue got submitted but it cannot be loaded ( https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42883 ).

I give up (and regret I wasted my time and effort into analyzing this for a bug report).

@Landorin - that sucks that you spent your time to submit an report only for Issue Tracker to throw a wobbly 😕. I’ve attempted to replicate your problem without success, but if anyone else can confirm the issue then I’ll happily submit a report on your behalf 👍

Speaking of submitting reports - I’ve put these two in today:
https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42911 - Shadows move with VR head movement
https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42913 - SRV disappearing shadow
…and also updated the Scatter Inconsistency report with a video - unfortunately the texture mismatch is still in evidence on various rocks.

As for the two I’ve submitted, the SRV shadow is a resubmit of a previously Expired issue (which got to 6/10, let’s try to do better this time 😁👍), and a new one where shadows cast by local light sources are moving around while moving your head. It’s very visible in VR though it doesn’t show up too well in recorded video.

Confirmations will be greatly appreciated, if you will please spare a few minutes 🤞

Will check these out later today after school run, the system map has always been a bit system hungry when loading (pardon the pun) and was causing me occasional crashes before the update, will check out the moving shadow thing to see how distracting it is but i fear it may be the same issue as the dancing steam.. anyhoo ill get back to you

On the positive side for the System Map - it’s proper zippy now 😁

The moving shadows look to be separate from the billboard textures rotating and moving with our heads - it’s as if the local light sources are moving when I move my head but go back to the correct position when movement ceases. If I look around slowly then the shadows barely move. It’s a bigger distance that the shadows move when looking around quickly.

Thanks for having a look 👍

Thanks for your empathy and for trying to reproduce the issue. Even though it is not good news for me since I would not know what else to do to improve the situation. I guess I will wait and see once more people try that, especially with the HP Reverb G2 (perhaps it does not happen with certain other headsets). I will take a look at the new issues as well. Thanks!

Ok, i see what you mean, will gladly sub a can reproduce. the more violent the movement the more apparent it is. but i will say the loading in of planetary textures etc. seem a lot better and so far i have seen none of the odd middle distance 'noise' that was happening. (disclaimer this is only from 5 atmospherics of varying types so far)

Aye, I agree with the landscape aliasing - very much improved 👍

Good to see other players taking the time to submit VR issue reports - unfortunately 4 of them are duplicates and only 1 is new (that I can see):

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42959 - Loadout avatar misplaced

As always, spending just a few moments to add a confirmation to the issues will be greatly appreciated, especially if you Confirm my recent two (which now have duplicates!):
https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42911 - Shadows moving with head movement - 2/10
https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42913 - SRV shadow disappears like the Cheshire Cat - 1/10
😁👍

I’ve been trying to duplicate other player’s issues today without success - my avatar isn’t offset in the loadout screen, all my UI buttons work, and messing with the Spot Shadow Quality setting doesn’t really help with the moving shadows bug (unless you switch them completely off, of course).

What I have found though, new to 7.01, is this gem:

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/43050 - VR System Map stars have gone dark

Someone has switched off the stars yesterday! 😅

I’ve also noted in the report that non-landable atmospheric bodies have incorrectly sized blue rings - this is a long standing bug.

As always, please take the time to add a Confirmation to the new reports - it only takes 10 of you to spend a minute or two doing the business, and the reports will be safe from Expiring (and might even get fixed in the future!) 😁👍

UI bug is a complete... thanks FDev; not sure how you managed that one. In any case, I mapped "6" to "Comms" rather than "2" for external and I can at least wing up and whatnot. Losing faith.
