Development Update 4 - September

Further Mission Additions and Improvements

We also have exciting plans to further extend Odyssey’s mission set. This will add further mission variety and elements, making the gameplay experience much more dynamic.

Sounds good, but please don't forget to include some Exobiology missions. :)

we've been told update 8 would have "significant improvements" to performance, but this statement makes it sounds like part of it was done on update 7 (which actually made it worse and a lot of stutters to some), and now update 8 will bring optimisations focusing on lighting? is that the reason we are having so low FPS? Can we expect significant improvements so some of can actually play at above 15 fps 4~5 months after release or nah?
That took me aback as well, the release notes for update 7 said that there were (paraphrasing) minor performance tweaks here and there, but that the actual performance increase would be in update 8. That said, later down the post:
We have identified further improvements to the navmesh to be made in Update 8 which we believe will substantially improve instances of stuttering upon disembarking at a settlement.
So could be a case of him meaning that the bulk of the foundations were made in 7, with the actual implementation in 8.

At least I hope so. I've gone from having few to no performance issues prior to 7 to now feeling like I'm playing on a potato.

This is an excellent post, I always like to hear about potential future developments, even if they don't come to fruition, it at least tells us there's some enthusiasm behind the game and more to look forward to.

In the meantime I'll be awaiting the performance improvements the most. My PC might be old, but it ran horizons absolutely fine, and the promise that it would run on the same system is the reason I bought in. After all these updates I would like to know if this is even a possibility, my only hope being that to run on console it will have to run on systems not as fast as mine anyway. So my fingers are crossed that we will start to see the effect of the optimisations over the next few patches and I can get back to enjoying the game again.

These are good news, thx!

I really hope Fleet Carrier interiors means that I can actually meet my crew. I handpicked the coolest bunch and really want to see them face to face :)

Here’s a Question, why not just tell us it’s not coming to consoles instead of stringing us along ,knowing it’s not happening is better than being ignored.. right ?

Performance is still terrible on PC. You don't want it right now. They clearly have not "figured out" the performance issues on PC yet, or it would run faster than it does. Until they get that figured out, I don't think they know when they can port it over to consoles. That's why you don't have a timeline.

I would hope/imagine that once they get PC running at a certain acceptable level, some percentage of the dev staff will start working on consoles, and at that time, you may be able to get a solid ETA from them.

Just guessing.

yeah but that seems, at least to me, that they are fixing the stuttering they introduced on update 7, so im kinda curbing my enthusiasm towards update 8 (which was really big), now i just hope it makes it playable to me and others =(

It’ was spoken that they will bring EDO on Track. And then they will check consoles and additional content.

clearly said, we’re fixing EDO and then we will check consoles, nothing was mentioned that there will additional content and something else.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey is an important step on a complicated journey, and we must get this right, before we can consider moving on to these new platforms.

So what does this actually mean for Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

So the new stuff is optimising ? Ahhh all becomes clear .
i know give them something "they want" so we don't have to fix the proper stuff . And the PC Gamers go wild 🤦‍♂️

A lot of this additional content was very likely planned and in development anyway. No point in delaying it for the console release. Better for us PC users to test it first and get the bugs out of it before it comes to you guys in console.

I don't get the issue. Or do you think the people creating this stuff is working on optimization. If you do, you are very likely wrong.
