Development Update 4 - September

So
Performance is still terrible on PC. You don't want it right now. They clearly have not "figured out" the performance issues on PC yet, or it would run faster than it does. Until they get that figured out, I don't think they know when they can port it over to consoles. That's why you don't have a timeline.

I would hope/imagine that once they get PC running at a certain acceptable level, some percentage of the dev staff will start working on consoles, and at that time, you may be able to get a solid ETA from them.

Just guessing.
Why all the new stuff ? Obviously it's beyond optimising now and it's a look shinies for the players so they don't moan as much and we can get good reviews .
Sorry but I'm really disappointed at frontier . And I await the PC aww didums posts .

yeah but that seems, at least to me, that they are fixing the stuttering they introduced on update 7, so im kinda curbing my enthusiasm towards update 8 (which was really big), now i just hope it makes it playable to me and others =(

I confess it surprised me too. In the Development update posted in August it said;

3. FPS performance in Odyssey

.... Our core code team is making good progress on more substantial optimisations, a number of which we expect to be included in Update 8.
Hopefully there will be 'substantially' improvements for people.

Patch 7 was very much advertised and it broke many things. Some have not been fixed yet.
Any word about the Fleet Carrier bug that appeared with patch 7 where you can't use your secure warehouse? Are any hotfixes planned before releasing 8 and more bugs? If history is any indication, each patch leaves more bugs than are fixed by its successor. May I suggest a tidy-up hotfix before patch 8?
The worst part is that I'm becoming bitter towards FD and I wasn't expecting that. And I don't like it either, but I feel it.

Looking forward to zero stutters near npcs/settlements/Navmesh, fps optimisation, combat SRV and the mission system enhancements. Option to remove all advertising on the carrier/ports would be appreciated as well thanks !

While it's unfortunate the consolers are left behind right now I don't think that's reason enough not to add new content while also working on bringing them back into the fold if it's even possible.
They SHOULD be working on native console versions for the current-gen consoles in preparation for then getting Odyssey working on top of that once they've finished fixing the problems with the current content in Odyssey,

They SHOULD NOT be adding MORE content to the already broken PC-only Odyssey release, increasing yet further the gap between what they are prepared to offer one set of players over another.

At this point I can only assume they realise the new engine they're using in Odyssey simply won't work on consoles and so they are abandoning them entirely but don't want to admit that to anyone yet.

I don't get the issue. Or do you think the people creating this stuff is working on optimization. If you do, you are very likely wrong.

I think there's some valid concern in the change from last month's notes, which predicted major performance improvements in Update 8, with what we see today:

With the bulk of our navmesh optimisations now in place with Update 7, alongside a number of other changes, our code team is now looking at further optimisations with an immediate focus on lighting, slated for release in Update 8. Further work is also underway for Update 9.

.... which reads as though Update 8 will make some minor improvements to the advances of Update 7(!). Since many people are experiencing their worst performance yet in the Update 7 universe this.... is worrisome. But hey! New shiny things! Very exciting!

Not sure mega ship and fleet carrier interiors qualifies as "optimisation" ...
neither does new concourse layouts.

look, i get it, seems like they are throwing some sweet bread at us while we are in the hell burning and console players see only the sweet bread being thrown.

i for one would LOVE major focus on optimisation, as they clearly either didn't figure out or didn't fully commited to it (i guess the former), but i doubt the guys doing skins and these emotes are the same ones working on core optimizations, but that's just me. Plus as someone said above, these things were probably already planned anyway, its like complaining odyssey got concourses.

and i don't mean to speak for you, sorry if it sounds that way, but it i was a console player and could have the experience im having right now on pc, on an old console, i'd choose not to do it. i know why frontier did not released for consoles, but i don't know why they did release for pc.

Specifically, what are you mad about?
Like I said, after lofty promises regarding Powerplay its the usual. Four updates in, not to mention a year prior you'd think FD had some idea whats going on with it.

Plus its lack of awareness with ships like the Fed three. Its as if FD have forgotten they exist when they are crying out for a purpose. Only here could a ship called a Dropship still not be used (rather than act like a combined AC 130 and Blackhawk in ground CZs), or that the Gunship has so few seats.

uh-huh.

Well, they are so deal with it.

Here’s a Question, why not just tell us it’s not coming to consoles instead of stringing us along ,knowing it’s not happening is better than being ignored.. right ?
Indeed ... at this point I'd rather they just admit that they are sunsetting the console versions because they don't know how to make them work with where they want to take the game. Followed by explaining exactly what they means for Horizons on consoles ... will it reman a separate universe, is there a switch-off date, will there still be bug fixes and/or enhancements to Horizons ...
