Nah, I think the Feds as a brand are burnt toast really, because the goody goodies see them as bandits and they are the default background big bad oppressor.

I mean, they're probably right in this case. What was Hudson thinking, trying to assassinate another political leader at a diplomatic conference?! Gives permission for everyone in the galaxy to do the same to him.
Hmm. Hudson is the clear immediate aggressor, capturing Grom would be a change to the status quo, EG Pilots are one of the largest organised player groups, and the missile rack seems better than the multicannon - though the multicannon is at least unique in terms of phasing on a kinetic weapon, while the missile rack is just two stock blueprints put together - so should be a fairly easy Grom victory. (Though, surprisingly close so far...)

I do wonder if it would set up a fun escape CG though if / when Grom is caught.
The EG Union is a pretty powerful PMF, just take a look at how the influence changed in CD-58 538 . I had my main businesses there and all of a sudden there were almost only combat or election missions. That happened on the very same day, the EGU made their declaration at that conference. One small pmf is already out and the EG union is in, bringing turmoil to the system trying to take over control from the hudson guys.
Lol. Best insight into the way players think about agency is the Peregrina Permit as it is not available - due to a group of players using their 'agency' to stop it being available. And what is the response from other player?
- Band together and start the long BGS campaign to make the permit available? Nope
- Petition fdev to make it available, maybe part of the story as another permit giving CG? Nope
- Accept the state of the galaxy and the Agency of other players in blocking it off? Nope
- Get Support to give them the permit anyway? You got it!
Real consequences are for others! Even the tiny consequence of not getting access to a backwater system!
.... and I very much doubt that the feds winning this CG would have removed Grom. Grom supporters would probably have contacted Support and got it rolled back
Capture rather than kill, according to the CG, so there'd presumably be some chance to turn things around.
Of course, the other outcome could also lead to an interesting plot - Delta Pavonis coming under direct EG Union control, Hudson getting stuck with the blame (as Halsey did over Lugh), and it's Hudson who is out of Powerplay to be replaced by Shadow President Jerome Archer.
This feels like the start of a plotline rather than the end of one.
As Delaine pointed out at the conference, people are very attached to their ideas that states are the ones with legitimate monopolies on force.
Grom - via a certain amount of Imperial patronage, as a way of them quietly antagonising the Federation - has been able to establish that legitimacy. Mahon and Sirius may do the same for Delaine, eventually.
This "day of pigs" invasion is hardly going to go well for Hudson, though.
But thats the thing- its all one way and people never think of why Hudsons going after Grom. They just see Hudson shouting yee haw and firing guns into the sky.
Yep. It's actually close enough right now that if Hudson had been smart enough to be able to present Grom as the immediate aggressor, he might have pulled off a narrow victory. Not elected President for his brains, though.
It will certainly be interesting to see what this leads to though, or the Feds ultimate aim. I mean, if Grom escapes is this FD positioning him to do ZYADA in lore by aligning him to the Imps via story?
If the Feds don't stop the rot you may very well get a chance for a Winters Federation and a Hudson Federation. Now that would be a fun set of CGs in motion
