Shoutout and Buur Pit appreciation thread

I feel in terms of Elite Dangerous content creators this channel is still very much up and coming based on sub numbers, but when I miss the weekly live stream / dev stream but The Buur Pit really does well in capturing the details needed to be up to date quickly.

This channel really nails the content if you want to stay up to date with positive vibes.

Word.

It's perfect for those of us who don't have time to see/hear all of Frontier's announcements, and so it's become my go-to to catch up on the latest Elite Dangerous news.

Good work @Buur! 👍

I find it to be unrealistically optimistic a lot of the time, but it's also a quality production. (and to be fair, someone needs to be optimistic as there's enough doom and gloom around even for me). To add to that, i don't think i've seen ED's beauty showcased better anywhere else, there's stunning footage with every video.

Thank you, glad you like the footage I film. It's a darn fine looking game!

When you see the overwhelmingly negative videos from several other creators, and the cesspit that is the youtube comments section on any Elite video, I'd say it's nice to have a beacon of light out there.

We report on what is happening in elite and we make the odd silly, fun etc. Video with it... When frontier do well with it we report that. When they drop the ball we report that. When folks are having a good time we report that and when they're having problems and there are struggles... Guess what... We report that.

We are often accused of being overly optimistic. Whilst I generally am a glass half full kind of guy anyway I do feel that "unrealistically optimistic" is unfair. For example with regard to the Odyssey launch...
At no point... And I really mean this... At no point did I think to myself over the last few months "well that's this game dead and buried, frontier won't fix that, they'll just shut it down and make something else". That's a preposterous notion and I'm genuinely surprised anyone would believe otherwise.
With the video we made yesterday (linked above by OP Steve) we just reported what frontier said and did and sprinkled a little genuine, experienced based, opinion into the mix on what we see and feel from observing the growth of the game over the last 8 years and (importantly) staring closely at frontier and paying very close attention to their many comings and goings and noises.
It's all subjective obviously... But we don't consider ourselves to be dogmatically positive about elite regardless of where it goes, we do however think of ourselves as realistists and we try not to be overly reactionary and instead inject a bit of thought into what we spout publicly.
I appreciate we're not everyone's cup of tea. And that's ok. Either way both of us genuinely adore Elite, warts and all. We'll carry on reporting the facts as we see them, good or bad for whomever wants to listen :) o7

Agree.... I'm a subscriber to his channel.

Good content, and not a bunch of whining and F-bombing, which I appreciate.

They are doing a fine job indeed.

It has become more obvious lately considering that a lot of "historical" content creators have stopped working on Elite in the last year.

I think a lot of them were hoping to make a year's worth of video guides with 'how to kill a billion thargoids on foot with a bread knife and make a trillion credits in two hours'.

Odyssey launched with pretty much the same content we got in the Alpha, which they'd already covered. So... nowhere for them to go.

Streamers are another matter. Plenty of those, and they're playing Odyssey.

While I'm not the biggest fan of Odyssey I still want to be informed about any news and developments of the game. I've watched a number of your videos now, and also the more recent reviews (I enjoy hearing others' opinions about stuff I care about), and found them to be pretty balanced and fair indeed, and most importantly they're about the right length to digest easily inbetween other stuff (~10-15 mins is ideal for me personally) - and while I'm no longer receptive to the ould "this is a foundation for much better to come" take on the game and have become quite cynical and negative in terms of its long term outlook, at the same time it's true that one needs to be pulled away from staring into the abyss now and then as you just end up getting stuck in a rut and will close out anything positive when it actually occurs.

Production values are excellent also, even if they sometimes highlight various visual bugs the game is still plagued by - but that's not your fault of course and you can only work with what you've been given. The footage certainly help with that click when a new video shows up in my YT suggestions section as eye candy is always nice, although you must have a pretty beefy PC as most of the footage seems very smooth (unless slower camera movements help hiding performance issues, I always wondered?).

So yes, good job and keep it up (y)

Been watching Burr for quite a while now. Its a refreshing take on the development. Critical where deserved but an overall optimistic tone.

On a par with Obsidian Ant i would say.

And when i want salt and negativity, i can always watch Yamiks :D
Haha. You took the words out of my mouth.

Love the Burr Pit. Excellent weekly breakdowns of what's going on in the game. CMDR Rheeney's incredible footage, and CMDR' Buur's excellent narration ( will he ever run out of new hilarious descriptors for the Thargoids). When the poop hit the fan they reflected the communities disappointment without hysteria and quite frankly felt a rock against which I could weather the storm and continue hoping. Their game related video's give all the information required without veering into the grindfest videos many others were focusing on that I believe did a lot of damage in their own right, giving the impression that relentless grinding was the only way to play the game
