These were loose choices but I think I missed a couple
Johnny is a good choice for memes so let's do it, and hope for lots of pirate based punnery.
I've read G's book on the TdF and found it a good read. Haven't read Millar's The Racer, I might give that a look.Absolutely. Hence my absolute 'dislike' of 'him',
Millar's books I have found fascinating. The first one I found quite painful and difficult and tbh I really wasn't sure I liked that David Millar. His follow-up (The Racer) is however a delight, and a love-letter to cycling - if you've not read it give it a go, it is very different.
I'd also recommend all of G's books. All very well written, funny, informative, easily digestible and engaging.
G = Geraint Thomas.
It's has quite a different tone to the first book. If I'd not bought the two together I may not have got the second one after reading the first one. Was glad I did.I've read G's book on the TdF and found it a good read. Haven't read Millar's The Racer, I might give that a look.
A welcome addition to our pantheon of mediocrity for sure.
Right, (Deep Breath Here),
Update 8 has now fixed 99% of the performance problems I had (i7 3770, 16 GB, 1050 Ti running at 1080p). I can play quite happily if I'm getting 30+ fps. I get that for most activities and I've been able to raise the detail level from Low to Mid at the same time. The only unusable fps is around big planeside installations and I have to drop the detail level down to low to get the fps above 30+. Ironically, on-foot CZs seem fine.
Before this release, I've mostly been plant scanning, which has been quite enjoyable apart from finding Bacterium. Update 8 has allowed me to really try out a lot more of the missions and they've been enjoyable so far. I'm not doing the engineering grind because I've really got no need to, just enjoying immersing myself on the on-foot side of things. The emotes are good (even had a NPC salute back at me, which was funny), I like the NPC delivery / smuggling missions. I've yet to have ships come after me for an on-foot mission, or have a target make a run for it to his ship but I'm looking forward to triggering these events.
It's great that Update 8 has got things to this level but I do feel that if this had been the state of Odyssey when it had been released, then the game and the community would be in a much better place. I know that's a bit 20/20 hindsight but you do feel there was a push out of the door and we'll fix it up later kind of approach to Odyssey. That approached worked with the original release of ED because it was a kickstarter, it didn't have major performance issues and (despite Offline gate) most of the community was on-side. 6 and a half years later, that community goodwill had been sapped alot.
Maybe the silver lining for all this Odyssey pain, is that fdev have begun to realise that they have to communicate properly with their community if they're wanting to keep the game running. No disrespect to Will and Stephen (because we know they were instructed to say it), but we really got sick of the 'We have nothing to announce at this time.' line that we got constantly for almost two years. The positives that have come out of this are the monthly dev updates and the CM teams really doing the hardest to keep the community informed and reassured. I know that people want information about the console versions but I don't think we'll get any notification about that until the PC version is running well enough on equivalent hardware (and even with update 8, I don't think it's there just yet).
So For the TLDR crowd. Update 8 is great (at least on my PC); IMHO, this is what the May release should have been; but on the upside the communication is a heck of a lot better that it's ever been before.
Looking forward to update 9 but really enjoying update 8.

This sort of off topic topic has no place here, sir.Right, (Deep Breath Here),

I know right? Posting well thought out balanced critique here, at this time of night?
