And if SQ42 is the best space ship game ever made ? You won't buy it ? If so, why ?
I'd be way too distracted by all the flying pigs to remember to buy it! :D

In all seriousness, in that extremely unlikely event, I'd wait until the price dropped to $10. Why?

  1. No matter how curious I may be about how the originally pitched insertion of your character into the Star Citizen game (it wasn't supposed to be stand-alone, remember), I still consider this whole affair to be an utterly unethical and particularly egregious abuse of the crowd funding model. I don't think such things should be rewarded financially, and there are an abundance of space ship games currently that offer similar features that don't reek of the stench of corruption.
  2. Even if it's the "best space ship game ever made," it's still a combat game. My interest in combat games waned a long time a go. The best space ship game I've ever played, Kerbal Space Program, didn't any combat in it, and it was glorious. These days, I generally view combat, especially twitch combat, to be something endured at best, a completely unwanted feature at worst.
  3. It isn't an open-world game, but a choose your own adventure style interactive movie that is occasionally interrupted by gameplay. Such things were novel back in the early 90's, but as computer technology advanced, so did my desire to weave my own narrative in a fictional universe, as opposed to being railroaded down some fixed, or even branching, plotline.

As for points 2 & 3...I'm with you on those. :)

I've actually been surprised by the level of animosity towards the patch in Spectrum - I was expecting more supporters (as there is new stuff). I guess there is frustration as the char reset means you actually need $$$, and the state of the game doesn't help getting them.
The interesting new stuff is heavily outweighed by the brokenness of the core gameplay functions and poor network servers. It may well run fine as an internal build...as a live service, it's shyte.

Is the core game more broken than 3.14? I got the impression it was much the same, but now people don't have millions to ignore it.

It's not about the millions and being able to ignore it all, the patch is way more stable than any for a long time...but adding the death of a spaceman thing and tying it in with the new inventory and new medical gameplay at this stage in an alpha is utterly pointless. It doesn't help that none of it works properly yet either.

You can still make credits, you can still lose them too but not to 30k's...which is nice... but it's not about the in game earned credits...it's about waking up every 10 minutes in a hospital bed wearing a cardboard nightshirt realising that you've lost all the pointless but nice stuff you like...the armour, the guns, the stuff you found in a box at an outpost that you shoved in your ship inventory that now vanishes every time you have to reclaim the ship at a terminal...it's too much tedium to bear, no sense of achievement...nothing except frustration.

Since 3.15 launched, I've done a character reset 3 times (which is an alien concept for me) just to save me flying around for 2 hours collecting all the bits of in game available armour, weapons, helmets and ammunition I lose every time I die due to force reactions when walking up a ship ramp or down a set of stairs...and I'm not alone in doing that either. Waiting 15 minutes after a reset is still quicker than wasting over an hour (assuming you don't die in the process) getting set up with all that... admittedly, mostly pointless stuff... to just play the game. Other than doing that...it's flying about in a n00b suit and helmet just to avoid losing it.

None of this stuff is essential for gameplay...but it's a personal immersion thing. What's the point of having all this nice stuff available in game if nobody ever uses it?

Ah right - hadn't realised that - I'd been assuming once you stored things 'off-body' they would be safe. They do seem to have added a lot of pain then :(

I have seen people talking about wandering around in hospital gowns because it minimises your losses on 'random death', it's going to be a very different looking game in the next free-fly :)

You can store all the stuff in your local inventory at your home base and it'll stay there...but what's the point in that? Only you can see it...it's kinda like a weird collection of rubbish you find in boxes or buy in shops. You wear it or take it with you, you lose it while walking up a ship ramp in the hangar...that's how it works now.

All this armour and weapon stuff...there's no one-stop shop to buy it all either...with my current look, the undersuit, arms and legs can only be bought at one or 2 outlets, the chest piece is a freebie bit of subscriber flair, the helmet is only available at CRU L1 R&R stop, likewise the Coda pistol. The rucksack is Port Olisar and the LMG and ammo is again at a few weapon shops....it's the same with finding ship upgrades like QT drives etc, you have to fly around to find them or use a 3rd party tool similar to EDDB to locate them...it's a pain. As an immersion thing, I never wear the rucksack or shoulder fired weapons when I'm sitting in the pilot seat either, I remove them and store them in the ship when I board. There's no requirement to do so...yet...that's coming in 3.16 with the physicalised ship inventory...but I've always had a thing about not being able to fly a ship in anything heavier than basic light or medium armour, that goes in the ship lockers. Pointless I know, but that's just me :)

This is part of the thing. If SQ42 ever was to be made, it'd probably take another company or group doing it, knowing they'd have to cut a lot of stuff (on roadmaps), and then, possibly, playable. If it was any good, and could run long, I'd buy that.

The way it is now, I think they could make a SQ42 game, have it be only in the one system, and a lot of folks would be happy. They haven't because if they do, and it sucks, people will bail from SC. Why change anything, whilst getting money as is?

One final screen from this game, the only ship I was left with in 3.15 and a ship they completely broke, cockpit displays unusable, missile hud broken so no missiles and new upgrades just disappeared. That was for the final straw, the game is more geared to group play anyway and seems to be even worse than Odyssey in wanting to become some FPS CoD type affair of which I have little interest in. I have gifted out what items I could and the account is scheduled for deletion.

Deleted your USER folder before joining 3.15? Screens and UI not appearing is a common problem with patches, deleting that folder fixes it. Had that problem myself, but oh well.

Thanks for your service T o7

The pics were grand as always.

(Did you buy in as part of the general EDO disappointment?)

Nope the bugs were nothing to do with the user folder, they overlayed the general ship commands (ie. exit ship) over the menu buttons on the cockpit display screens making them inaccessible, the missile hud just shows 0 missiles regardless of whether you have missiles or not and ship upgrades just randomly disappearing well that's been a thing all along and something they clearly have no interest in fixing. And the new personal inventory was just annoying, I mean toggle helmet on/off now you get to hold a big box lol.

Ah, the edit where he removes all the negative stuff and makes it look very good?

Wait, he can't use his stuff because he's out of his body and his stuff (inventory) is tied to his body? That's freaking hilarious!

Yeah that YT series ;)

He’s not having an out of body experience or anything. I think corpses are just spawning as headless t-posing nudes, which are unlootable (?).

It sounded like a tractor beam might help with a workaround. But he didn’t have one. Because it was trapped in the headless t-posing nude ;)

He talked about that tractor beam like it was the holy grail… (Probably because it’s a pain to buy I’d imagine, as per Mole’s post)

As I left the vid he was toying with bending his hardcore rules and just buying all his armour back, because it was an unfair bug ;)

When I have time to play SC, which I only end up doing once every month or 2, I'd load it up, and it'd ask me to create my appearance again. Did that happen to you or others too? Why does that keep happening? For me, it seems like just another annoying thing to keep happening.

I will probably take more of interest in Elite again, at least there you can just go off and explore and do your own thing, I did a lot of the engineering in Odyssey and generally had few issues with bugs. Star Citizen lost me when they announced the wipe and then didn't actually wipe until months later with the release of 3.15, during that time there was no actual motivation in trying to achieve anything, get new ships so I drifted off and got busy elsewhere, starting back and finding your sole remaining ship was basically scrap well...

Oh forget that to, character appearance in 3.15 doesn't actually work anymore. You can make your character but it will not show in game, another reason not to load it,
