Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Decided to go posh whilst doing the boxes...even if you're penniless, you can at least pretend to be rich. It's like taking a Ferrari to Tesco to pick up some milk and bread 🥳

Or like seeing the Uber Eats driver pull up in an Aston Martin :-D

I bought Elite 1984.
I bought X-Wing and TIE-fighter.
I didn't buy Wing Commander or it's sequels.
I won't be buying Star Citizen. Even if it ever does get rele...hahahaha.
Ahem.
I knew Chris Roberts' reputation from that era and then in Hollywood.

Knowing this, I have never believed that the game could get completed by Chris, nor now could reasonably be completed by anyone as it has 'stretched'. It will imho forever be in the state it is in. A buggy unfinished mess.

There will be no Microsoft rescue this time around. Still, I'm looking forward to Chris playing his game on the yearly Christmas live-stream.... ....that's still a thing right....? Like 10 for the Chairman and publishing the accounts?

Current pledge: $00,000.00

Star Citizen is Schrodinger's Game.

It can be thought of as live and not live at the same time.

So, they can just make it up as they go. And who'd have thought that they might do that...?

(e. Agreed, the dividends also made me 'wonder'.)
Easy: SC isn't a game, but is a product (in a service way) for which people agree the alpha unstable (so can't sue CIG in case of continuity or quality of said service isn't provided).

A game? No. Profitable? Yes. Disingenuous? Yes. But it's business, not philanthropy.

Its most fidelicious assets? No, not the ships... Its backers and the army of little ants.

And if SQ42 is the best space ship game ever made ? You won't buy it ? If so, why ?
If it is I'll buy it. Albeit he references SC, but it's a moot distinction, and I'll even buy SC if it ever gets released and is decent.

My feeling however is that, from the evidence to date, SQ42 being a decent product in a fit state to release any time soon seems hugely unlikely. Similarly SC.

The suggestion that SQ42 will be the 'best spaceship game ever' seems - based on the general feedback on SC over the nine years - rather optomistic, particularly given that SQ42 and SC share the same underlying tech and development teams and management, and indeed used to be the 'same game'.

Look, I'm not hoping SC/SQ42 'fail' (in whatever form), but I'm also not expecting either game to ever get released in a fit state. So I can spend my $00,000.00 elsewhere.

That's a stretch. How about its just a good game? One that is positively received? I mean, even that might be pushing it, but its possible.

I've already said why i wouldn't regardless of how good it is. Would be interested to hear the opinions of others.
I didn't buy into Sqn 42 per se, but the digital download was included as part of a ship package (It's included in all concierge ship packages). I never was a fan of the Wing Commander games so this being a rehash of the same old idea from the 90's doesn't draw me to the experience. I never once included Sqn 42 as part of any pledge even back when it was optional for an extra $15... so if it hadn't been included in the ship package, I wouldn't be buying in...the PU and Star Citizen is my thing.

You're going to be kicking yourself when it turns out to be nearly as good as the Wing Commander film.

Fair point.

e: ...as an aside... I wonder how many of the mocap stars will be dead by the 'time of release'? (I've a feeling I will!)

Sorry, you've got it, you're damn well going to play it and enjoy it! If you don't, there will be no pudding! How can you have any pudding if you don't play SQ42?!

Wow, what a load of FUD! Can't be true, people keep saying its the best patch ever and amazingly stable.
Well...it is remarkably stable...but that's the only optimistically positive thing I can say about 3.15. Not one 30k in quite a few solid hours of extended gameplay sessions. The death of a spaceman thing though? No...just no. The tech demo isn't bug free enough to support it as it's designed, neither are the servers capable enough to make it work. Too many random deaths attributable solely to server related errors which involves losing all your stuffz you spent hours, days or even weeks collecting. It's not engaging or 'fun' in the slightest.

Since 3.15 went live I've had 12 deaths...none of them attributable to another player, NPC or any gameplay related incident (bar crashing on takeoff when typing on Discord). All of those deaths bar that one have been due to some clusterfarcery with the force reactions nonsense or dodgy physics....all tied to crappy servers, lag and positional desync.

Trading is once again broken (server related)
The character creator is churning out generic, platinum haired Indian dudes faster than a popular Mumbai hairdresser
server tick rates have increased once again causing massive lag and desync
current 3.15.1 PTU cycle is tied up to adding ships and locations for the free-fly/expo rather than fixing existing 3.15 release candidate bugs
