State of the Game

I just got tingly when S2 of Mando mirrored S1 where Mando says what Moff Gideon said to him and you knew it was going to be spicy. And then he turns up.

The SW shows have promise- I just hope they can keep the new trilogy at bay really and not go shouty Abrams.

Why anyone insists on giving Abrams money for movies is beyond me. He's an absolutely terrible storyteller.

7 is good - but it's the start of the 7/8/9 trilogy so does lots of set-up, though I thought it got going pretty fast. Eight is a favourite. Looking forward to 9, though I don't see how they can 'land' it successfully - so many large open questions ...

I think my main issue with the later books is that they tend to interleave the viewpoints of many characters - one per chapter - so I'm always wanting to get back to another character. Less of an issue on re-reads.

This is me because we won't be getting a seasons 7-9 of the Expanse.

Its...alright. From memory its a bit slow but picks up.

There is quite a time jump so you'll meet the crew again when they're all old and have been around the block a few times.

^As Rubber said it is slow and there is a ton of exposition to let people catch up.

Thanks guys. Does the blue goo make a return?

I can see why they would sell S4-6 as a deal to Amazon - holding out for a 'you need to finance 6 series of an already cancelled show' would be quite an ask. Once Book 9 is out they can give a better idea to the networks what they will be buying. Plus - I imagine Amazon have the rights to show S1-6 for a while, so if they were looking around at getting a Netflix or Disney to finance the last 3 then they need those rights to revert so they can sell all 9 onto a platform.

I disagree. Last Jedi was fantastic, but anything Abrams put his hands on turns to garbage. I’m glad he only mucked up Star Trek TOS as that series the worst of the lot. But whoever let him at Star Wars should be given a long hard Paddington Stare.

:D S
I agree, im a total Star Wars freak, i watched the first one in the 70s with my dad and was hooked from then on.
BUT i am one of the few in my group of 'Geeks' who actually think the new ones are better.
Better filmed/written/acted, everything.
We tend to look at old films through rose tinted specs, the truth is back in the 70s/early 80s the CGI wasn't available to do the films justice.

Rogue One for me is head and shoulders above everything, why? because it tells a Star Wars story from the perspective of normal folks and not just a bunch of heros in ultra clean garments and settings.

Everyone is also quick to criticise Disney, yes they are a massive global money making machine and i have first hand knowledge of working with them, but they also take a lot of risks and there arnt many companies with thier vision or money to keep something like Star Wars going which requires huge budgets due to the expectations put on them by fans.
And if you ever take a little one to a Disney resort it will make you smile.

Just my take of over 45 years of being a SW nut.

? Luke actually had a character arc where he learned, made mistakes and overcame his past. Rey? She could do everything from day 1 and never grew. Fin? Compare him to Lando, an empty character who despite being a stormtrooper goes no-where other than Jar Jar comedy guy foil for Rey.

Last Jedi: full of silly, silly holes and incredibly poor writing- the whole plot is one hole, with horrific characters like Holdo- as well as a script that introduces more maguffin to solve plot holes from silly inconsistencies introduced earlier.

I mean in the last film- horses running along a Star Destroyers hull? Peak lunacy, peak idiocy. That and, spaceships not knowing what up and down are....

I mean, I mean.....did a ten year old write all this out?

If you look at the cut material you'll see where the recent films could have made things better. For example: after Rey thinks she toasted Chewie with her force duel with Kylo, there was a scene where she is on the Falcon and is crying, and she says "Why is this so hard?" only to have Anakins ghost appear and they talk about the dark side.

Thats growth and understanding how SW works. What we got was flash, little substance and ill thought out crap.

R1 worked because it respected the prior material and understood what a modern SW film should be. The last three? Utter tripe that needs to be burnt and then shot into space.
