And again big shout out to Random Goat for making this Meta-list (and all the other folks who are making Meta-Wishlists too!)

Looks like except for Oceania, if we got an animal pack for the other continents (not including the birds section), we'd be really well set. That's account for species crossover to multiple continents of course as well. Noted again Africa seems to be the heavy hitter with wants overall though, which we've talked about before, due to the diversity of their higher profile and well known animals. Nothing for animals under 30 votes for Africa whereas all the other sections have several under 30 votes, and quite a few that are even less than 20 votes.

Keep going Saiga! You can do it!

Seeing them within the top seven for Europe makes me more optimistic that they might make it into the game some day.
Even though they are an Asian animal 😅 not associated with Europe and only live in the eastern fringes that connect to Asia. It's like counting a walrus as a European animal. Technically, I guess yeah? Does it represent European wildlife though? No.

I mean, their second largest population is in Europe and they are (currently) only held in captivity in one European wildpark. I would consider them European wildlife. I'd also consider the grey wolf, the wolverine, and the crested porcupine to be European wildlife, though they certainly occur elsewhere.

The Tanuki however...I definately cheated to fit it into the Europe pack
You can use Racoon dog instead - there is a huge introduced population of them in Europe. All created by animals that escaped from the fur farms years ago.

While I love the Saiga, I get the people that don't want it in a European dlc.

I'm from the middle east, and I've been told more than once that Asia "already got its pack" with the SEA pack so I should be satisfied... while I have a total of zero animals from my region, let alone my country.

I understand people from central and western Europe would want animals that actually occure in their region, and not animals which technically count for their continent but only occure thousands of kilometers away at the fringes of the continent.

This is the same situation like the normal raccoon. It's found in Europe, but a raccoon doesn't make sense in a European pack, the same than the tanuki doesn't fit a European pack. They should be in a North America and an Asian pack. Another example in the same situation is the red fox. It is found in Australia, but it shouldn't appear in an Australia pack.

SEA was very specified to a particular region so in my opinion it is totally not enough for the whole Asia. We can not compare SEA to Middle East at all.

I really do feel that we need some of the European species too but there are a lot of European or European like animals in the game right now (wolf, brown bear, moose, beaver [I am aware it’s different species but looks totally the same], reindeer, polar fox, polar bear, seal, flamingo) and absolutely none from the Middle East 😱

The other thing is that all Europe associated species that people want live in the Middle East and North Asia too, so it’s not like there are any exclusive European species except for Iberian lynx 🤷🏽

I would love to see a pack dedicated to Middle East just as much as pack fully dedicated to North Asia, Himalayas and India.

Looking at the amazing map you have made we could really easy fit some popular species from meta wishlist in the Middle East region, like:

1. Hamadryas baboon from Saudi Arabia
2. Caracal small cat from whole Middle East
3. Persian or Arabian Leopards
4. Honey badger
associated normally with Africa but lives all over Middle East and India
5. Stripped hyena so much different from the spotted hyena and amazing desert dweller
6. Eurasian Lynx not much people know that it also lives in Turkey, Iran and Israel
7. Indian Crested porcupine very similar to the African cousin
8. Addax, Scimitar horned oryx or Arabian oryx - once roamed all around North Africa and Middle East now their range is limited to National Parks like Yotvata Hai-Bar Nature Reserve
9. Nubian ibex
10. Red deer
11. Red fox
12. European badger
13. Dromedary
14. Fallow deer

15. Onager
16. African wild donkey
from Yotvata Hai-Bar Nature Reserve

Amazing analysis! I'd really love have these animals, also perhaps the desert monitor and rock hyrax.

Arabian oryx are actually getting quite abundant in nature in Israel and Jordan. I saw a herd last time I've been to the Arava desert at the south of the country.

Btw Yotvata Hai-Bar Nature Reserve is the best species wise reserve on earth for me. A DLC based on it would be a total dream come true 😍
We still lack desert species so much right now.

I'm not sure people are saying Asia has a pack and doesn’t need more, so much as they're saying "every continent has a pack with their name on it, except Europe... let's get a first for every continent before we start talking seconds."

You forgot the Iberian lynx with 43 votes... The only 100% European animal from that list, apart from the ibex.
