State of the Game

Perhaps NMS would be better suited to your desires? They even have a full VR (possibly almost as good as PSVR) implementation, even on foot. Plenty of danger and quadrillions (quintillions?) of planets all fresh from Disneyland.

nms is not. i like space flight games. not walking survival games set in space. Fdev chose to implement on foot gameplay. they should at least strive to make that gameplay good. Staring at a stationary model is not gameplay. What i described is. What NMS has is. All they have to do is pick something good and go with it. What they chose was doing nothing and calling it a role. That's not suited for anyone's desires.

I like Odyssey. So I guess that makes me nobody.

if all you consider odyssey to be is xeno-biologist ..then yes. you would be nobody. that's a role that somehow is more of a useless time sink than exploration could ever hope to be. They at least accidentally added a bit of interaction with fuel scooping to exploration.

I leave you with some sage wisdom....

we'd probably still be where we belong if there was less me shutting up and less you discussing disgusting potato chip and cheese flavors, obscure local tv actors and whatever other nonsense you get up to that has nothing to do with either players / the game / cats or who's bacon is the right bacon.

Probably true, but then this whole thread would have struggled to reach 4 pages and we'd all be banned from posting in any other threads.
On the whole, we got what we deserved.

Don't worry, narcissism fades as you get older, particularly in to your teens.

Dooooom!

Seriously though, I think you're wrong because, ironically, of the Steamcharts. They showed that a LOT of people really want to play ED, but aren't currently doing so - peak player count up by a factor of 4-5x. There's definitely a market for ED expansions and if FDev can do a better job of tapping into that (and not release a steaming pile of garbage next time) then there's still money to be made. The fact that they're still adding content to ED and EDO shows they haven't given up hope yet of turning things around. If EDO was to be the last expansion, they'd already have binned the console release - otherwise it's just a waste of effort.
I don't think people should underestimate how much it means to Our Lord and Saviour Brebus. It is his baby, and what put him on the map. The other side of things is that a "complete reboot" would bin off the kickstarters and LEP owners - and they're at a point now where they wouldn't need to kickstart it, instead just release it as a new game ("We told you we'd give you everything for the lifetime of Elite Dangerous, that life is now over, soz") so more monies coming in.

And honestly, I'd be alright with the toxicity of the current release disappearing into mists of time with a reboot of sorts, and I say that as a beta backer with an LEP. A new game, new engine, picking up from where this left off, designed and built with non-potato hardware in mind, with all the features the various focused feedback threads have been asking about, and shag it toss in the oul' ship interiors and other bits.

(For the record, I genuinely don't believe this is actually in the works at the minute. But I wouldn't write them off changing tack to this sort of direction at some point... maybe even offering it out to another studio to develop under the Foundry)

it's not so much that i'm saying my comments and only mine would have saved it..just that mine are frequently on topic in some way in the course of a day and yours aren't (at least not in the last thousand pages or so as there's been fewer and fewer threads to mock). and more of what isn't is how we got here, so me not shutting up and you doing more of it would have been better. that and i'm sure getting the attention of all of the mods recently didn't help. so yea.. You suck. It's something i've heard people learn to accept when they grow older and realize they aren't awesome. long after their mid-life crisis. You can tell because your choice of bacon is is wrong and you drink from the cup of Brabus which hath spilleth over with bad lighting and lack of any console flavor.

but being on topic isn't a thing now so ...whatevs. A new thread will be needed...though I doubt anything will reach the magnitude of greatness that was SoTG. Sequels rarely do. The Forum game has entered it's slow descent into ambivalent apathetic threads and comments. It's only hope of avoiding doom is if everyone is wrong.

But everyone is wrong. Nobody can know the Truth. We are all centres of our respective universes, yet never able to fully comprehend them. We go forwards through life, but are facing backwards, limited by the ranges of our senses and in your case, the puniness of the brain. The old paradox of living.
