State of the Game

Its not that bad from my perspective and Odyssey has added a lot for me in terms of how I can approach the game.

For reference...

Post in thread 'What are you up to?' https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/what-are-you-up-to.442368/post-9638107

However, as I've said before, it appears Odyssey hasn't added much for end gamers.

only 3 things in your list are odyssey specific. The rest people have been able to do since engineers was released or horizons (if you ignore the "collecting materials via srv"c and granted, geological signals /wreckage etc is a thing introduced in odyssey ...what's at the signals are features added during horizons for the most part. ). and one of those 3 things was just sight seeing. That's unsurprisingly not very impressive to many players for a major paid expansion, especially considering the departure from VR.

It's also a walking simulator :p

You also can look at static models of what we're told are living things. Experience the wonder and awe of doing such things on foot instead of in a car.

you'd think someone at fdev would have tried to imagine a reason for why DNA acquisition needed to be done on foot vs in a car. With a scanner ...that is contactless, it makes absolutely no sense. Scanning a non-interactive thing offers no gameplay. It also doesn't make sense.

Instead DNA acquisition should have required physically contacting the entity. Then once acquiring that, scans can be made at close proximity to capture any bio signals. During which ...some life forms may attempt to protect themselves or make it more difficult to be detected. Requiring...gasp... gameplay interaction from the player. crazy.

instead of a stupid mini-game hud standing in for gameplay ...you'd have to respond to the living thing you're scanning which could offer movements of appendages or release some hazard ...or perhaps bio signals are only emitted from a small area that moves that you have to follow to complete the reading. and these would all be damageable, leading to materials and/or increased hazards etc.

Perhaps NMS would be better suited to your desires? They even have a full VR (possibly almost as good as PSVR) implementation, even on foot. Plenty of danger and quadrillions (quintillions?) of planets all fresh from Disneyland.

Can you confirm if there will be seven or eight farewell tours?

And will there be fancy hats?
There will definitely be fancy cats

VR is exactly the same in EDO as it is in Horizons, didn't you know?
it's significantly slower in EDO than horizons. Forcing you to either suffer low framerate and the accompanying strain / sickness caused by that or lower quality settings. saying they're the same is ridiculous. Even in empty space the difference in performance is easily measurable and very noticeable.

and i do know.. i have vr and have run it in both and i have eyes and have seen literally any comparison and they all say the same thing. Odyssey still as of the last update, still sucks when using VR compared to horizons. And for most configurations you have to drop quality to make it playable at all to the point where you have trouble reading anything. Even your 6900xt will struggle to maintain 90fps ...especially with the higher res of the index - probably wont be unplayable. But compared to horizons... it's a different experience.

nms is not. i like space flight games. not walking survival games set in space. Fdev chose to implement on foot gameplay. they should at least strive to make that gameplay good. Staring at a stationary model is not gameplay. What i described is. What NMS has is. All they have to do is pick something good and go with it. What they chose was doing nothing and calling it a role. That's not suited for anyone's desires.

I like Odyssey. So I guess that makes me nobody.

if all you consider odyssey to be is xeno-biologist ..then yes. you would be nobody. that's a role that somehow is more of a useless time sink than exploration could ever hope to be. They at least accidentally added a bit of interaction with fuel scooping to exploration.

(Nearly forgot to say shut up Ender)

we'd probably still be where we belong if there was less me shutting up and less you discussing disgusting potato chip and cheese flavors, obscure local tv actors and whatever other nonsense you get up to that has nothing to do with either players / the game / cats or who's bacon is the right bacon.

Probably true, but then this whole thread would have struggled to reach 4 pages and we'd all be banned from posting in any other threads.
On the whole, we got what we deserved.
