Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 9 | Immediate Issues Of Note

Anyone else seeing this awful blurring effect?

It seems to be mainly on anything to do with white light. In this instance, my corrosive and emissive effects are now just big smudges.

@sallymorganmoore - just in case this can be noted to be looked at please.

I put up my Christmas lights in the cockpit and under certain lighting conditions they were awful, starburst across the cockpit - other times totally fine, will try and get some examples over the weekend.

I noticed that a lot of effects changed - from effects from weapons to interdiction. Regarding interdiction - at first I thought that was related to the fact I started it too close to gas giant, but later I repeated it in deep space and it looked also very different to what I used to see. It is like some smear effect was multiplied 10x - but I would say it looked not bad at all. Hope it is not just some sort of graphical settings reset. Does anyone else see such big difference on interdiction screen after update 9?

Can it be rolled back to pre-upate 9 and then re-released once it has been tested and fixed?
It wasn't entirely unexpected to be fair; what is the phrase? "Never play on patch day"?...A dissapointing release with many issues, old ones have resurfaced, new ones introduced. I would rather that the issues were fixed before introducing new features, but that's just me... There are 27,000 issues in the tracker (a lot of duplicates and many fixed to be fair) and so there's a bit of work to be done first. I'm sure there are hundreds of players more than willing to Alpha/Beta test prior to general release.
To chuck my tuppenyworth in I also CTD when trying to change hardpoints in Outfitting and also lost all firegroup settings. I haven't checked for issues in Odyssey yet, I find it too untrustworthy. I keep checking the forums to see when new fixes get released but, despite paying for the DLC, I rarely play it and so I'll wait until the new, even grindier material gathering/engineering loop gets a buff and basic gameplay issues get resolved but for now I shall remain in the relative safety of Horizons..... Oh wait, I can't change any loadouts...Oh well...
And another thing...
I just don't understand the business sense of releasing half-baked new content. I understand that they want to draw in new players and encourage current players to upgrade but unfortunately all they seem to have done is disenchant the console sector by dangling a carrot that seems to be moving further away and frustrate the PC player base by releasing effectively a new game (Odyssey) without performing the minimum of QA, Alpha and Beta testing. They are in danger of losing the trust of the entire ED community. I don't mind waiting for a finished product, I just want a quality product and clarity of information. Just manage my expectations please.

The massively excessive weight of the new multi-limpet controllers should really be flagged as a known issue btw. If you want people to play your game mechanics, don't include enormous silly penalties to them that prevent people interacting with it.

As it stands nearly every cmdr will ignore your new designs you spent time creating them because they are unbalanced and once again it makes you as a company look like the people coding don't play the game.

What explorer is going to nerf their jump range by about 20ly to take these on board?? That's crazy and should have been spotted!

As my personal opinion - there is simple answer - beta testing costs money. Elite Dangerous as a product has currently no budget for that. With the limited team size and time constraints, dev team probably does the best they can at the moment.

What is much worse in my opinion - the tendency that each new update brings more and more issues, like a snowball effect. I hope they can reverse the tendency.

It was said that they will look at the feedback and tune new modules. I guess it is safer to add heavier modules and then reduce weight, then opposite. Imagine you equipped 10t modules, but later it was changed to 40t when you are deep in space.

Imagine you sat there and actively decided to add an excessive weight that no one would use!

Crunch can cause problems like these. Thank you for your hard work!
So they were doing "the crunch"? Haven't they learned from Cyberpunk2077 mistakes? You don't release anything before it is ready and tested! And even basic testing should've picked up that bug.

Imagine your ISP did that and didn't have the roll-back option at the ready... "Sorry, your connection will be dropped for a minute or two every 15 minutes for few weeks before we can figure the fix and we can't roll back to the previous working albeit a bit slower configuration because we are careless nimrods who don't do backups of the old working configuration".

I would've been crucified by mu customers if I did something like that.

I cannot imagine that :) I agree with your "it makes you as a company look like the people coding don't play the game." and I think (and can understand) many people loose the passion to play, when they start to work on the game. But I would expect to see such a passion watching official streams, which I don't :(

The canopy effect not showing is also a issue. Don't forget that to Sally please.
I would check that a bit more - I noticed icing effect in my FDL when the temperature was 60-70%, but nothing in my Corvette at temperatures close to 0% (thermal vent lasers).

COMMANDERS! GOOD MORNING!
I absolutely appreciate that you would all like your individual issues faced, which are not on this preliminary list, to be included in the list.
I know they're all important to you - they are to us too.

Please bear with me, as I can't update lists in real time or make priority decisions on the fly without my consultations with dev side.
I need to be able to take the time to have these discussions to get more updates for you.

I've responded to lots and lots of the issues being reposted in this thread earlier this morning, across the update notes thread. I hope they've helped a bit!

Additional notes I've taken from overnight are (for both console, PC, Horizons, Odyssey):
  • Multiple crashes for console players (accessing stored modules, outfitting and more).
  • Crash on opening Orrey View.
  • Crashes when Guardian Sentinels spawn.
  • Issues with scanning some corpses.
  • Floating Guardian materials.
  • Issues with flags on hostile ships/other targetting issues.

I just want you to know that I am looking, I am reading but I can't respond to everything still (I'll try! Promise!).
Thank you so much for being patient with me and again, I'll keep you as updated as possible as and when I can with more news on latest issues.

Thank you!

The crash to desktop when accessing stored modules/outfitting is also very replicable on PC/Horizons as well, not just console, if that helps with figuring out the source of the issue.

The only thing apart from issues already noted is:

Plantage and Rocks dropping down into their final position whilst flying over a surface of a planet.

Thank you Sally, can you also mark multi-limpet controllers weight values as a point of note?
