Desert biome: what we have, what we need

The peccary has slowly crept up my list of most wanted NA animals specifically because of its desert-dwelling status. I think I'd even include it in my ideal 4+1 setup at this point, alongside the cougar, sea lion, and alligator.
I actually support this. This way you get all 4 corners of the continent

None of those four live in the northeastern part of the continent, whose representations consists of the grey seal and the diamondback terrapin (the puma once did but not in a century). Not a whole lot of habitat animals unique to the northeast due to how urbanized it is but it would be covered by the beaver, moose, or river otter.

The grizzly bear and timber wolf are from the northeast. They are found all over northern US, plus Canada.

It's the South and also western US that need better representation, and I'm gonna add Mexico to this list because it has so few (jaguar, Baird's tapir, Mexican red kneed tarantula)

Grizzly bears haven't lived in the east since prehistoric times. The eastern wolf stretches a bit into the Great Lakes but it's possibly a different species from the gray wolf entirely; the timber wolf in PZ is an amalgamation of multiple subspecies but closest to the Northern Rocky Mountain wolf.

The Southwest has no habitat representation but has every North American exhibit except the diamondback terrapin.

Cougars while not true desert animals are almost guaranteed for the pack and they should have every biome except tundra and aquatic. And even tundra might be there if they stretch alpine tundra to the Andes and Patagonia

regardless I would love a desert animal pack I’ve been thinking about a potential roster to accurately represent all major deserts as best I can (I’m including animals that aren’t true desert animals cause it’s better for versatility):

1. Dromedary
2. Addax or Scimitar Oryx
3. African Spurred tortoise
4. Caracal
5. Emu
6. Collared Peccary
7. A South American Armadillo.
8. Frilled Lizard

Honorable Mentions:
Rock Footed Wallaby - the emu is too iconic to Australia

Striped Hyena - I really wanted to add them as they stretch from North Africa to Asia but instead I went with Caracal for more small cats

Coyote - Another Canid too similar time wolves

Grey Fox - I looked it up and think it’s marginal to deserts. This is a unique canid I would love in the game but the peccary takes precedent

I'd switch the SA armadillo for patagonian Mara, and switch the spurred tortoise for a Central/north American armadillo and it'd be perfect for me.

I’d go the rock wallaby for a desert pack - emu would be better in a grasslands or birds pack IMO.

In North Africa I would add the Dama Gazelle

In the Middle East it could be added to Somali wild donkey (It is found in Somalia, Somaliland, the Southern Red Sea region of Eritrea, and the Afar Region of Ethiopia)

The african side of the red sea is not part of the middle east, and much to my surprise it doesn;t count as a true desert according to wikipedia

Maybe something like this :
1. Dromedary Camel
2. Emu
3. Collared Peccary
4. Scimitar Horned Oryx
5. Hamadryas Baboon
6. Striped Hyena
7. Crested Porcupine
8. Common Chameleon (E)

I tried to diversify as much as possible, while keeping popular chocies around.

So we have a camelid, a bird, pig, antelope, monkey, hyena, rodent and chameleon. Minimal number of carnivores, and no canids or felines.

We have four animals found in Arabia, just as much from all across Africa, one from Australia and Americas each, and while Hyena covers both Arabia and Africa it reaches out all the way to India. At the end Common Chameleon adds that bit of Europe on top of North Africa and Middle East, being found on number of European islands such as Malta, Crete, Cyprus...

Some pack in-between these lines would satisfy me greatly, of course there's plenty of rooms for shifts and changes, the "spicing" came down to my personal preferences.

Although I've always supported the idea of a desert pack, I'm leaning now more towards a "desert & grassland pack"

  1. Addax
  2. Crested porcupine
  3. Dromedary
  4. Przewalski's horse
  5. Emu
  6. Collared peccary
  7. Hairy armadillo
  8. Leopard gecko
Honourable mention: sand cat

This is honestly near perfect. I see no fault in this selection from an objective standpoint. Great job

Honestly, I really really don't want a dromedary in a DLC. It's a copy paste animal from the bactrian camel. I do want the dromedary, but it's such a low effort animal I want a paid slot to go to an animal that brings something new.

I mainly want a dromedary because right now we have a bunch of dromedary building pieces but no actual dromedary itself. Perhaps they could compromise and add it for the game's 3rd anniversary?
