Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Crusader is 20% larger than earth but yes everything is scaled down, its not practical to have 1:1 sized planets that you can land on.

Its better to have earth like worlds explorable than not.

Now that my friend is absoloute guff.

It is absoloutely practical to have 1:1 sized planets you can land on as ED shows. Its also practical to have smaller than CIG's 1:10 or bigger than EDs 1:1

Earthlikes can be explorable no matter the size. There is no binary state here that says CIG have hit the sweet spot.

I think what you are more alluding to is content density and quality and how long it takes the devs to create the worlds. Not an issue if you are going for full proc gen. More work if you are handcrafting stuff. And dev time wasn't a factor (and when has that ever stopped CIG?), content density hardly matters when you have spaceships that can fly around the planet in seconds.

I don't think CIG chose those sizes because they were thinking about content density. More likey they were worried about how big they could make the planets given the engine's limitations.

You think Chris "Fidelity" Roberts didn't want 1:1 sized planets?

Its funny how these keep popping up, always the same in style. Talking points:

1) Was ED player (why not NMS player? Why not any other game player? Why always ED?). Why do they have to come from any other game?

2) Heard from skeptics how bad the game was therefore didn't pay attention for years. Why do these people always base their opinions on what others say? Not capable of making their own? Doing some research? And yes, lots of skepticism out there. Basically anywhere outside /r/sc and Spectrum echo chambers.

3) Played SC and discovered how awesome it is. Despite the bugs, despite the alpha state. Doubly funny when they come from ED and if they have complained about the bugs/performance there as being part of the reason for leaving.

4) Most important point, talking about how much they have now spent on ships!!! Usually within just a few weeks or months they are already in for hundreds or thousands of dollars. To anyone looking in from the outside this must look insane. But its important to normalize spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on an alpha.

New Combat SRV is great Frontier. Keep it up.

It is indeed!

I presume you mean this sarcastically of course, since you never have a good word to say about ED. You only use it as a whipping boy to compare to SC, because it appears SC can only be talked about in a positive light if its first being compared to something you think is rubbish. Not really a good strategy "X is bad so Y is better"

Weird how that Elite refugee has never posted on /r/EliteDangerous during their 1500-2000 hours.

My favourite comment in that thread is the backer who'd spent $30k+ on a mobile game :ROFLMAO:

Some good comments in that thread

Well SC pretty much feels like you're playing alone as well since there's only ever a maximum of 49 other people on the same server with you.
This was probably the biggest disappointment about SC for me, I thought everybody would share the same space at all times (like in EVE).

They will eventually but ATM SC isn't server meshed like EVE but that is in the roadmap, and when it is done it will probably be more like EVE with everyone together

Yeah but "eventually" can mean 8 years from now on. I don't even know if I'm playing games by that time so this means nothing to me

I'll be 57 years old at that point.
I will still be playing games, if I'm still alive.

LOL, Nightrider swinging the banhammer against a whale.

You are probably just to used to elite where credit exploits run wild and frontier never does anything about it. You do play other games, right?
Not exactly exploits some times simulation just borks out and gives away pretty lucrative contracts. But it is not exactly against rules to use those situations.

I mean, it is almost as if there had never been any astroturfers in the SC arena 😋 ... There is already quite a lot of evidence suggesting that among its many delights CIG probably also indulge in very active astroturfing, in many ways, including probably in this very thread.

I doubt hiring 80 gameplay people would do much good. It's a mangemental nightmare to run a huge company like CIG. And as we all know the management often is not very good, just look at Hello Games. Sometimes less is more.

Chris wants to hire another 1000+ people in Manchester.

Then why aren't EDO's earth likes explorable?

The Engine can very well do 1:1, seeing as Crusader exists.
I think they explained why they went with 1:10 in a forum post quite a while back - was apparently for gameplay reasons, wouldn't wanna spend an hour in quantum and 10 minutes flying down to the planet.
