Yeah those would be the EXTREME weirdo fans...and yes, they're very off-putting...
with any luck, the anomaly is the machines having a fight with the Q continuum. This fight ends all life in the galaxy and most of the rest of the season is just watching worlds get destroyed and mike crying but trying not to cry.
the finale is the machines gripping the Q we know's "neck" - then going "Resistance is Futile" before going full matrix and absorbing him. But just before he is fully assimilated, he mutters "picard"...and a flash occurs. Screen fades to black as the machines absorb the rest of the Q.
Then the real end of the story happens in Picard. Where Q has to find some way to avoid the end of life and the continuum at the hands of the machines if it's possible at all.
