Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The BBC decided to write about SC, yet again, 2 years after they interviewed Chris and he said "I can drop my coffee cup on a planet and it will still be there" and promoted the still MIA "worm holes". Five Games that went to Development Hell.

Star Citizen

Of course, some games are still in a state of developmental limbo, perhaps none more so than Star Citizen. This ambitious space simulation MMO has become the most highly crowdfunded video game to date, raising an eye-watering $400 million from backers and investors since 2012. This has led to widespread coverage - positive and otherwise.

As much as independent projects enjoy greater creative freedom, Kotaku once described the game as ā€œan extraordinary insight into what the process of game development can turn into without intervention and control from publishers or financial stakeholders.ā€ Some have even gone as far as to call it a Ponzi scheme. Whether the game ever sees a full release or not, one thingā€™s for sure - itā€™s got some astronomical expectations to live up to.

I'm suprised they didn't just let Chris have a full control over the editorial to call his own crowd funding backers "armchair developers" as with the BBC click segment from two years ago.

prolly last time with the 9900k! looking forward to the 40fps landing at new babbage with the 12900k!
9GB, not as high as i thought it might be at your resolution.

Be interested to know if the 12900K gets you higher frame rates at NB.

Thanks for getting back to me, appreciated :)

I was like "wait what's Metaverse" because I haven't heard about that game and it's...a blockchain/NFT thing. I guess?

This is what pure strain, unregulated capaltalism does to people. We are going to have to relearn the lessons of the past once again.

Or just give up and drown ourselves in nukes already. I'm honestly okay with either one.
Oh yay, the kind of posts that made me decide to nuke my SA account are bleeding over to here. šŸ¤®

Wow wow wow what ? Lets stop here. It's not. It's still unbelievably cartoonish. It's also way too twitchy for the poor servers to follow all the random accelerations so it desyncs like hell. They also tuned it for the very vocal and very annoying "small light fighters 1v1 everyone" crowd.
Desync problems are from the server, not the flight model, on foot/rover/ships, the problem is the same.

"cartoonish / small light fighters 1v1" is just your opinion. A lot of players like the way ships fly now. 3 years ago, it was not the case.

3 years ago, nobody would have posted this video (from an ex ED pilot)

Conclusions?:
  • There's been a range of responses. They're definitely not all happy bunnies ;)

Worth another look in 6 months?
  • Definitely. The biggest 'refugee' glut was in July, for a start.
  • 3.14 seems to have been particularly unwelcoming to ED noobies for some reason. A much higher ratio bailing outright. (6 out of the last 10 for example).

Heh, seeing that video creator got banned for completely losing the plot on these forums, he might not be the best example of someone with balanced opinions.

Also he has gone 100% shill boy with his Star Citizen videos, so yeah of course he's going to say it's all great.

That's quite an analysis!

Pretty much expected from what i've seen. Some people fall in love with SC despite its current state, some on the fence, and some bail.
