If only FDev could figure out how to make ship interiors like the community so much wanted, and didn't evade the question only to be put against the wall and duct tape it in a rush for Carriers, or even finally let us land on all the beautiful earth like planets with actual atmosphere...
If you have a chance to give SC a go I'd advise you to do it, once you'll do you'll notice they are at different scales of production quality and depth of how their features are implemented. Not just ascetically but mechanic wise. From multicrew to flight model to space ship mechanics. It's no wonder why disgruntled CMDR's move to playing SC while disgruntled Citizens move to other hobbies that don't involve actually playing Elite.
Like I said before, ED has a community where half or more didnt want space legs. They wanted to be strapped in the cockpit all the time. Then FDev sees a way to add legs, so they did. I find it funny that only after they did that, those folks went to SC. Why didnt they go before? It's like they saw the legs Odyssey provided, then realized they want more. No kidding! Wow, what a surprise. The other half of the community has been wanting legs and interiors the whole time.
Now they show a seat you can interact with. Im predicting a fade to black thing, but still thats a good step. But seriously, knowing FDev, interact with the seat means to lean against it. What happens if it's a smooth transition? Game changer.
They've added atmoshperic bodies. They're amazing looking, aside from a tiling issue, similar to one SC had a few years ago. But from that you can see they're going to do this in stages. Next could be water...water may have more complex life than what we see now, etc. Then later...other stuff. They'll let us play that when it works, or 6 months prior.
Im sure part of my rants are because recently when I go into SC, I get stuck in a wall or fall through a floor and dont make it to my ship. I did make it to my ship a few months ago, but had to log shortly after flying to an outpost sized station. What I did see looked nice, but some NPC's walked by, and I went in another room, and when I came back, they had different outfits on. Where's CR when you need him to make it so those NPC's cant change outfits unless they get on a train, drive away for 15 minutes, change, then come back? Where's the fidels? ( I was a bit miffed when I saw that..I do expect a lot from this 500 million dollar game)
A few years ago I was able to play SC. But as time has gone on, I cant. Isnt that a bit backwards? And shouldn't they always be changing/upgrading their requirements? It's pre-alpha. They can and should do that.
One of the unforseen good things that has happened to SC is that it's only in one system. When Odyssey alpha was out, everyone was in one system and it was busy as could be, and for some of us, that was a good thing. The chat got a bit rough at times, but it felt vibrant etc. When SC has 101 systems, that would be like a 60 LY bubble in ED. It would be quite busy still, but energetic. But what Im getting at is that for you to bump into folks in ED is quite rare. Even friends are usually spread out, doing their own thing. It is a blast to get together though.
I'll try SC again this weekend, and let you know how it goes.
