Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Still, not even talking about ambition. There simply isn't another game out there that combines Ship & Station Interiors & Planetary Cities with gameloops into one. Well, that isn't a voxel game I suppose.

Ah, that's another one. Making things so specific that it can only apply to SC. Especially like the addition of not a voxel game at the end ;)

Same can be said of many other games out there.

Let's play the same with ED.

No other game out there with spaceship and on foot activities, with station interiors, fleet carriers, with literally dozens of gameplay loops set in a realistic one to one representation of our galaxy. No other game out there with the same scope!

Shall we do NMS next? How about X4?

See?`Both games have their niche audience, with it being a niche, I doubt anything else will come around within this decade.

You said you wanted to express your feelings about the game. But those feelings as expressed sounded like something the marketing department of CIG might write. Don't be surprised if its met with skepticism even if written in good faith.

I pretty much completely agree with what intrepid said.

For me SC is the best space game out there. I can choose between SC, ED, NMS, Eve, Dual Universe, but I end up playing SC.

Its a discretion of what makes it unique to me, its a context example to what i'm saying.

If you still have no doubts to my intent let me know, i'll stick you on ignore.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

I have no snarky game-related posts to share (this is my gift to y'all).

I woke up to a few new (and vintage) analog synths, plus a bunch of vintage sci-fi/fantasy (think the 1960s stop-motion variety) movies, so my wife and I can enjoy things together (and - I think - to keep me from making noise with the synthesizers).

Now for brunch with hot cocoa and Bailey's. Actually, reverse that. I'm sure we'll add cocoa at some point.

And that's fine. If someone likes SC, even in its current state, more than any other space game, then no problem. Some of us struggle to understand it, but hey, can't argue against it. Some people like games like Dark Souls, i'd never touch it. My kids are spending an ungodly amount of hours in Genshin. I don't understand it, but i don't tell them they are wrong for enjoying it.

I do not doubt your intent, i was saying the results were the same, regardless of intent.

EDIT: Basically its about knowing your audience, and anyone reading this thread is your audience, regardless of whether your words are aimed at them or not. The words you wrote would be applauded and upvoted on a place with a strong fanbase like Spectrum, the SC reddit, or perhaps a SC focused discord. But waxing lyrical about mundane gameplay features are going to get ridiculed by the skeptics.

Much as I would like to see SC become a release ready product that meets CR's dreams, I know in my heart that the only way a releasable 1.0 version will ever be possible, is if CR is forced out one way or another. They will never finish with him at the helm. So, no cash from me, take advantage of free play periods to look at the state of and enjoy the alpha, and popcorn to watch the back and forth between backers and detractors.

When it's all working, I do love what's there though.

In this case, backer says it was obvious from day 1 that the pledge store would never go away. Historical retconning aside, this would mean the pay to win aspect of SC will never go away (although we kind of knew that after CIG said they would continue to sell in-game currency post release (back when they still talked about actually releasing the game).

But it raises an interesting point. CIG need to keep funding going not just at the current level, but year on year for the forseeable future funding will have to increase (based on CR's plans).

It means they will have to keep the store going for years yet. There will be no point that can be forseen, even post release, where they can stop doing ship sales. A released SQ42 might provide a boost in income in the short term, but SC has many years of development ahead of it. All the missing gameplay loops, all the missing systems, they need those employees, and CR knows they need those employees.

The pledge store is indeed here to stay.

I have no issues with Micro-transactions in the way most do it, servers cost money to rent, a live MP game need maintenance, that also costs money.

There is no doubt in my mind sales of something will never end with CIG, but no one knows what that is yet.
