Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

If I have to ask, I shouldn't know anyway?
If you aren't already wing commander level concierge ($10k) you would have to email Ci¬G in order to fork out for any of the top tier packages. Once you initially reach concierge ($1k), further package options open up that aren't available to anyone below concierge but stop at Praetorian level ($18k).

You can't just pop over to the RSi webstore and drop a cool $40k on daddy's credit card :)

I pretty much completely agree with what intrepid said.

For me SC is the best space game out there. I can choose between SC, ED, NMS, Eve, Dual Universe, but I end up playing SC.
To me it is still Outer Wilds o_O
Aren't we all? There's a requirement to have spent at least 10 grand already just to view that package option...even for those of us strictly in the angry dolphin class of concierge. We can't view that either :)

The highest value pack I can access is the Praetorian at a measly $18k...

I’m sure you mean Outer Wilds + VR mod ;)

Trip Report: Outer Wilds

This is just so goddamn awesome. But unfortunately there's no way to discuss that without spoilers...

Was sliding and hopping around the tiny icy comet when I suddenly found myself sucked into space towards sounds of terrifying fury. Turns out the comet had completed its close pass near the sun, and the giant gravity source had nearly yanked me into its maw. I managed to slam the jetpack on in time, suspended between worlds for a heart-wrenching moment, before rustically guiding myself back to the comet, cushioning the landing just enough to avoid breaking all of my bones. Both terrifying and awesome ;)

Loving the use of curving 'magnetic' floors, the wild storms of the water planet, the honeycombs of knowledge in the architectural ruins. I've still got far too many plans on the back of a postcard to tick off. But it's all working out just fine. If the inertia of my path takes me past an intended spot, there's always another delight revealed in its shadow, another place nearby I've been meaning to get back to...

If people stopped giving them money they'd declare bankruptcy within a couple of months. They don't have lots of cash reserves. Why would they keep developing the game if they make a lot of money now? Well, because that gives them more money. As you can see with spectrum, people are getting skeptical and less willing to open their wallets.
500 million is a boat load of cash, unless, to make your company, you had to build new buildings, etc. Like actually what? We're not talking about a few million bucks. It's 500. And, for what they've put out, probably could have taken 20 people, while they worked at other "main" jobs. Why so much fluff? Or are you trying to convince me they haven't had enough money?

CR said, years ago, they had enough money to finish it. Then he added, at some point, with the more money they get, it says folks want more and it goes to adding new and more things. How about this? Do the finish thing first, then add to it.

You mean to say over on the spectrums, people are skeptical too?

Do they still have the racing thing in there? That, in itself, is a really awesome racing game. They could release just that, and could make millions. It could be a game, using whatever they call their engine, sold and played, and there, CR could say he made a game, and has released it. So, why not? Maybe if they released it, only 10 people buy it, and hmm then other questions rise, though, right?

So as one star system based games go, would people have preferred Hellion to get $400 million to fulfil it’s dreams rather than SC?

100%. There are a number of games that could apply to. Or does that apply to every other game, actually? Eurotruck Simulator and American Truck Simulator would just become Earth Galaxy Truck Simulator, with full multiplayer support.

It was kinda clear based on the words in the sentence that it referred to hellion and Sc.

Still, not even talking about ambition. There simply isn't another game out there that combines Ship & Station Interiors & Planetary Cities with gameloops into one. Well, that isn't a voxel game I suppose.
Star Trek Online, Star Wars The Old Republic, and the defunct Star Wars Galaxies.

And games that also include voxel-based mining and construction: Empyrion Galactic Survival, Space Engineers, and Dual Universe.

Funny thing is about the 40k pack and having to spend at least 10k, it means you already have quite a few ships that are included in the 40k pack.
That being the case, you just melt the original pack or ships worth $10k and add to the $40k Legatus pack with another couple of Idris'sss to use as CCU's for more Krakens... and stuff. Or rather what most would do in that case, melt everything first and use the $10k store credit along with $30k from daddy's credit card to buy the Legatus pack :)

The old scope/ambition issue. You can announce whatever you like. I could announce a game with 10x the fidelity and scope of SC today, doesn't mean i can deliver on it.

This is one of the issues people have with SC. Talk is cheap. CR spent years saying yes to everything backers asked for. Over 1000 questions on TftC he said yes to. That's a lot of things he promised.

One of the things I worry about with interiors in ED. We've already seen requests for the ability to buy and drink at the bar, we are getting some chait sitting in FC's at least, will this extend to other social areas? Will it mean having to make hands that can pick up stuff, like weiners and etc. How much demand for scope creep would adding interiors to our ships bring? Buttons to press, flushing toilets? Adding interiors to ships will bring forth a flood of demands for petty things....and it's these things that have caught CIG up in a never-ending chase for fidelity and complete interaction with everything in the virtual world.

Yup, and probably does qualify as a scam, even for me who prefers "exploitative funding model".

Some might say it's not a scam, you don't need to buy it, but you don't have to buy in to any scam. That doesn't stop it being a scam.

40k for jpegs, what the actual.

page 2022 I must make a comment.

I've heard that CIG hired 1400 new devs, is that true?

Not true. CIG plan to expand the Manchester staffing to 1400 bringing the company to a total of 1700 staff over the next 5 years, which is around 1000 more than they have at the moment.

Backers are celebrating this announcement without considering it means they are going to have to more than double their existing pledges to keep CIG afloat. They probably (like Chris) assume that SQ42 will release at some point in the coming years bringing in millions more and that will bring in loads of new backers who will pledge more.

The scary thing is... they might be right!

SC still won't release though :p
