Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

backing a Kickstarter for a book that's ostensibly hoping to find a story where there is none by working under the premise that crowdfunding is bad

But there is a story, a pretty interesting one there. The story of the creation of SC.... or at least the attempt to create it, since its not yet released (or is it?).

There's the whole background story about who Chris is, his history, his hiatus from gaming, his triumphant return to gaming, the initial crowdfunding on their platform, the switch to kickstarter, the return to their own new platform, the stretch goals, the marketing, the development, etc.

There's definitely a book to be written here.

The question is, whether the book will be neutral, sensational, full of praise for Chris, or negative? The trailer makes it look like its going to be a sensationalist piece. Personally i'd like to see an objectively written work (the faithful would still call it a hit piece i'm sure though because i'm sure nobody could write such a book without doing things like quoting Roberts' many promises and claims made over the years and comparing them with the results).

A sensationalist book might bring in more money than a neutral analysis though.

But there again, if they wanted to make bank, they'd write a book called "Star Citizen: The best game ever" charge $1000 per page, and make bank from the whales.

I really don't know why you keep bringing up Derek Smart predictions like anyone ever really liked that guy. I first started arguing with him about his insane control schemes back on the BC/stargaming newsgroups (hence my avatar and my handle).

I think some people liked him for the drama he created rather than for him as a person or as a source of real information.

It was always funny seeing the faithful losing their rag over DS's latest blog or whatever.
