Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Got the groundwork of the game done, their scaled down server meshing seems to work, CR didn't say this, the Network team did. Star Citizen can be a great game, and in many ways it already is. Star Atlas on the other hand? Well, they have nothing.

They have dreams they are selling.

Was just having a browse of the SC youtube channel and thought about the amount of videos they have put out over the last 10 years. Took a loot at the playlists. Today being a quiet day, being Orthodox Christmas and just got back from the mother in law's and had drinkies, decided to spend a few minutes cateogrising their videos.

Disclaimers:
There might be some overlap between playlists. I tried to avoid this by not counting any compilation playlists
There might be some videos missing that are not included in playlists.
I combined playlists that were on the same topic, eg: various citizencons, gamescoms, etc.

Take a gander

Notable points:

No idea why Alpha 2.6 got its own mini-playlist.
Apparently it takes 11 videos to explain what Star Citizen is!
The same number of videos declaring its "Playable now"
Only 26 videos on SQ42 (pretty low compared to the rest of the output)
78 ship commercials!!!!
Despite being discontinued for many years, 10 for the chairman is the second biggest playlist. 128 videos, 1280 times Chris said "Yes!" to whatever backers dreamed up.
AtV is the largest playlist by a good margin (actually 3 playlists for some reason).

Well over 1000 videos produced in close to 10 years. Over 100 videos per year. Perhaps 10 videos per month.

Zero released products.

So - around 1228 videos. That is 122.8 per year. Impressive. The year has 52 weeks, so more than 2 vids per week.

Again you don't know how cargo grid and packages works on SC.

Fact 1 : cargo are only placed/removed on/from the cargo grid automatically by the game.
Fact 2 : Packages can be manually placed and removed everywhere in the ship (on a cargo grid, cabin, corridor, etc) by the player as long as there is physical space to do so
Fact 3 : you can walk and manually place things on the cargo grid of big ships. The things you place (package, friends, vehicle, etc) are not seen as cargo by the game.
Fact 4 : You can't walk inside the cargo grid of small ships (Aurora, Mustang) because the space is too tiny and closed.

To make an analogy.
If you have a truck with a big cabin, you can manually place a big box/small box in the inside of the ship (cabin) or walk in your cargo grid (the container) and put the box in it. That's what you can do in big ships

An Aurora is like a tiny truck with closed container. You can't open the container (only trade terminals can put/remove cargo in it) but you can put small boxes in the cabin (not big boxes)

A mustang is like a truck without cabin. You can't open the container (only trade terminals can put/remove cargo in it) and you can't put small boxes in the cabin (because no cabin).

It’s real funny you used the image of small cargo vehicles that have DOORS to illustrate your point about sealed cargo containers!!!

it’s hilarious really…But don’t worry I get your point

You say the mustang is a sealed container, and that’s fine… in fact I can agree to that! but my point was that the system was made modular like a semi truck… you attach the cargo container to the driving unit. No need to walk inside the cargo grid or throw stuff in the cabin!!! you change the damn container completely and put one the suits your needs!!!

Is also funny that there are images of mustang alpha’s concept art with a cargo ramp, but they ended up adding what appear to be a cargo lift with a clamp (very clever)… that’s why I said it appears it was done to be compatible with Aurora’s Stor-All container.

How hard can it be for CIG 3D designers to come up with a structure that can be put in place of the current mustang’s container so it can act like a flat bed?

How hard can it be to add an interaction option to the mustang container so players can “magically” put the small box inside the container? you can call it “Cargo Loading T0”

Done when done.

Our game is NOT ready until it's ready

Of couse when it comes to customers actually paying for it NOW, we are absolutely ready to try to up-sell software that doesn't exist to everyone who clicks "play now" and chooses a starter package for our barely defined "alpha stage" software with this confusing additional ADD TO ORDER option...

Incidently, what rights do customers have if they "buy" this and the game is just hot garbage or they go beyond any kind of reasonable human expectation of when a product should be deliverable beyond a purchase date?

Few rights. If its really bad they could try a class-action, like has happened in the past.

But if it works and just pants, not really anything anyone can do. Would just be another lesson not to trust CR with your money.

Well, it's not hard - apart from the door stuff - but we actually want it physicalised so we need to place the cargo where we drop it. Which is a pain because of the glitches. And the door - of course. But it's more than in any other space game and I'm sure the fun is immense for the odd simple dude who is easily wowed. And an easy distraction from all the fraudulent behaviour and abusive marketing.

DUUUUUDE, I just ... OMG! I know why is called SQ 42! They run a VAT carousel on top! 2 times 21 = 42!

Hmm but I wonder, does the token "refund policy" they have in place only cover ownership of Star Citizen eg: if you own the main game for one month or whatever you have no rights to return SQ42 at any stage? Even though you have no way to play it or even ready a review until your refund period has exired on the main game.

Seems a bit scammy to refuse customer rights on two items being sold, especially when it's absolutly a seperate SKU when it suits them. It's very scammy to smuggle in an additional pre-purchase but dillute the customer rights on the purchase of the alpha.

I'm sure you could easily debate it. Unless you're US consumer.

They haven't got the groundwork of the game done. Nor do they claim to have.

A good example is in fact: Server meshing. The Q&A said they might get 50 player shards working by the end of 2022.

(In, as you say, such a reduced and standardised form that it hardly deserves the grand term of 'Server Meshing'. But does bring into question whether the tech can ever support Chris's grander dreams of high player counts, an expansive seamless universe, and giant capital ship battles and the like. Kinda bringing us back full circle ;))
