To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Players would have a choice between giving up engaging in existing content that had been retrospectively PvP-gated to Open or playing in Open to continue to engage in the content - not really a choice....

That's the exact same kind of choice I had to make in the context of the ongoing CG: I could either choose to haul 1000's of tons of commodites (an extremely boring "activity" I hate with a passion) or not to get a shiny double engineered 4A FSD.

Life is full of hard decisions.

If the 5A FSD is precedential, the 4A FSD will likely be available through Tech Brokers some time after the CG has completed.

If significant portions of the game were to be PvP-gated, in a very belated "bait and switch" (given that every player bought a game that does not require any player to engage in PvP to affect the BGS, Powerplay, CGs, etc. and the game was launched over seven years ago), then, for some players, it'd be the decision whether, or not, to continue to play the game.

Not that I expect those who enjoy attacking player targets would care much if players who don't enjoy PvP leave the game - unless it put the game's profitability in question and risked shutting down future development....

Given the game's current design and the disparate desires of its players, it'd be more equitable to split the galaxy - to offer an Open only galaxy as well as the existing tri-mode shared galaxy.

I'm a mainly solo (as in play by myself) player most of the time, but I mainly do it in Open. I play solo mode for specific reasons, like not wanting to meet anyone at all, whether it be friend or enemy, or for going to places where gankers will be hanging out.

No need to change Open though to cater to my needs. Easy enough to use solo when i want.

Its no surprise most MMO players just want to do PvE stuff. Just like most PvP players prefer arena based games because they provide a quick competitive environment where they don't have to go hunting the PvP. There is this small but very vocal subset of PvP players who like to get their PvP on in open world games and spent an amazing amount of energy trying to get the game to be changed to suit them, and seem surprised when it turns out a majority don't want the same things they do.
Why post on a multiplayer forum?

Elite is supposed to be a open world multiplayer pvp pve game. Clearly someone is in the wrong game.
The original "Elite" is a single player PvE game, as are its first two sequels - so it can be argued that Elite is "supposed to be" a single player game. This version allows players to choose how they want to play, with or without other players and, if playing with other players, who to play with.

Oh yeah the "entirely optional" tune, where could I have possibly heard it before like 457884357 times, let me see... copypasted to roughly every other page of every single PvP-related thread by a certain moderator perhaps? :)

It's "entirely optional" up until a certain point. Once you've clicked "Open" and happened to get attacked it's no longer optional. Unless you clog - which you can do in CQC as well, does that not make PvP "optional" there as well? :)
Yes, though I can choose how many times I'm going to be attacked by same individual commander. I'm choosing = one time. Nobody trolls my game time second time.

Well, attacking the same person over and over again (outside of CZ/war etc situations) is just a richard move.
But interdicting them again after they've low waked is not the same thing, that's just the same attack being continued.
