I want to see srvs race circuits round the middle. Winner is the last one to fall off!

I did that. Did I put one of them in the T9 that did the work? No I did not. Just put the smallest basic shield I could in the thing and try not to hit stuff.Just got myself a Type 9 to do some propaganda work for Aisling Duval, I need a couple of Prismatic shields...
Yes, water worlds where they only have to worry about the atmosphere/weather and the outposts on the water should be the best for FDev to start. No need to worry about forest, trees, rivers, caves, marshes, icebergs, beaches, jungles, waterfalls etc etc etc. (and of course if you have an ELW we will demand 568949 species of animals and 672984 bird types and why cant we swim in the water where are the fishies how about some dinos??!?!?!)Lovely sky though. Really hope the devs are working on letting us land on planets with weather cycles. Even if they're sterile; clouds, rivers, lakes, oceans, would be amazing to fly through. And think of water worlds; no complexities above the surface, but Camino-style outposts. Which would probably be a great place for cheap fish!
Excellent. I'll check these out once I'm done with opinion polls. Thanks! So, I've been using a very cool little tool called Elite Observatory. It's a lightweight program that runs in the background while you're playing, and watches the journal files as you scan, looking for anything "interesting or unusual."
It pops up a message when it spots stuff like wide rings, shepherd moons...a whole list of such stuff that I would very possibly not notice.
Yesterday it popped up a message about a gas giant with a wide ring, and 3 shepherd moons (these are moons that orbit between or inside the ring(s)). So I went over to take a look at it.
There were 2 rings, one small and close to the planet, and one huge and quite a distance from the planet. And as expected there were 3 moons orbiting between the 2 rings. I landed on the 2 that were landable, to see if I could get a good view of the rings, but they were not visible from the surface.
However, there was a 4th moon orbiting just outside the wide ring, and it had biologicals on it, so I went there as well. From there I was able to get this very cool pic of the gas giant overhead, with it's huge rings. It's quite a sight to see! You can even pick out the 3 shepherd moons (just dots from here).

Elite Observatory - Search your journal for potentially interesting objects, or notify you of new ones on the fly while exploring!
What even is this? Elite Observatory is a tool which can read and monitor your Elite Dangerous journal for objects which might be "interesting" so you can go take a closer look. What is "interesting?" A lot of things, potentially. Currently the built-in checks include: Landable and...forums.frontier.co.uk
While I'm speaking about tools, there are some plugins for Elite Observatory written by another CMDR (MattG) which I find useful. In particular the Bioinsights one keeps track while you're doing exobiology stuff, and lets you know when you've travelled far enough to do the next sample. It also keeps a running account of what you're scanning, what bios are likely to be present, how much they are worth, and stuff like that. Very nice.
MattG's Observatory plugins
Quite some time back now, Vithigar mentioned he was working on a new version of Observatory that would allow plugins. This immediately piqued my interest, and I've been watching the project progress with anticipation. Now we have our hands on the new version I've been busy writing some plugins...forums.frontier.co.uk
Lastly, there's a little program called SRV Tracker. With this you can save surface locations, and use the tracker to go back to them easily. It's designed for racers to use, but it's very useful for exobiology as well. For example, if I'm out searching for samples of, say, a Fonticula, and I run across a Bacteria, I can't scan the Bacteria because my sample cannister is in use. But with SRV tracker I can mark the spot and come back to it once I've complete my Fonticula scans. It makes life a bit easier
Release - SRVTracker - Planetary GPS and Race Management (with VR support)
There seem to be quite a few trackers/waypoint locators available, but none of them quite fit my requirements, and certainly none of them offered full route planning and race management. So, I thought I could change that. SRVTracker is an extremely lightweight tracker (it monitors status.json...forums.frontier.co.uk

Thanks!Congradz!
Probably nothing.What's good in Hors???
Great photo's!Having been refused landing at the beseiged fish market, I ended up taking the scenic route to a more mainstream supplier. This turned out to be a very good idea, because I found an atmospheric, landable planet, with a respectable 6 biological signals and cool sunrises.

Except, as I noticed on arrival at the surface, I didn't have an SRV. So postponing that, I headed off to finish my fishy delivery, pick up a vehicle bay and scarab, and return. (Side note, I went up to the Imperial rank of Count, but it doesn't give me anything new.)
I decided to start with the signal with least presence; what turned out to be a tiny bulbous plant in the depths of an annoying canyon. Fortunately this planet is a very comfortable 0.25g which makes for good driving conditions, and despite the dawn light not being able to get down there, I found my three samples. (Side note 2; what an annoying thing the triple samples is! Why not let us have multiple types at once?) There was also a pale looking bush which I snagged some from as well.

After that, out of the shadow and into the light, where the green grass grows! As well as some heaps of bacterial sludge.

At this point, I am 5/6 biologicals scanned. The wide pools of bacteria were hardest because they seem to have a rendering issue from the cockpit, often showing up as shadows rather than the proper model. I'm not sure I can be bothered looking for the last one, it's bound to show up somewhere else down the line.
Anyway, nice little detour for what would otherwise have been a day of mindlessly grinding imperial ranks. Nice to step out of the ship a bit, actually - haven't had a lot of reasons to do that, but I rather like exploring for biology on atmo planets and might make a note to get side tracked more often. In fact, I could do with a geological tour as well, because I've spent a lot of elemental materials of late. So I guess I'll be keeping my eyes out for some of that too
Also, issued a little reminder to my ship that it doesn't get to tell me what to do.

Turns out Fed/Imp is maxed out, Elite explo, nearly Elite in trade (due to CG). Combat not doing so well, due to having SLF pilot. Guardian useful stuff unlocked.Made me realise, I've no idea what ranks I've got on the Tanya Wu account.
Definitely got Elite exploration, from the ammonia world's CG, other than that...![]()
The prismatic is for an Imperial Courier or perhaps a Vulture I might try for bounty hunting.I did that. Did I put one of them in the T9 that did the work? No I did not. Just put the smallest basic shield I could in the thing and try not to hit stuff.
Ah yes, Tanya needs to do this too.friendly local tech broker.
