Newcomer / Intro I'm kinda lost, the galaxy is a huge place.

I think you'll dig the Type-6. I know I did when I flew one. Personally, I think the Python is the ultimate trade ship but that will take a while to get. I like to set goals in this game and then work towards those goals one at a time. It keeps things interesting and doesn't burn me out.

Yup, I managed to find a Type-6 for sale, it's a great little space truck. Went from a cargo space of 16 to 64!

I did look up that stats on the Python, and I can see why it is so popular.

However my Type-6 gets the job done quite well, and I kinda like the idea of not having the same ship as everyone else. The few times I've flown in open, it felt like all I came across was, Pythons, Anacondas and Clippers.

Of course down the road, I will get one of those nice shining toys in my collection ;)

Weirdly they sell these things with A size smaller cargo rack than can be fit. There is more load to be had with bigger racks.

Good to know if I do buy a Type-7. But for now I'm quite happy with my new Type-6 😊

Oh and my Type-6 has the advantage of needing a medium landing pad, whereas the Type-7 requires a large. Some of the missions takes me to really small stations, so the Type-6 is perfect for that.

That medium pad capability is why there are a lot of Pythons around, it has the biggest cargo capacity of all the medium pad ships. However it costs more than it appears to as it can be a right pain to fly without full sized A rated components, especially in combat.

Unless it’s changed all new ships come with cargo racks one size smaller than the slot allows.

Yes the Python looks like a really good all rounder ship, though it is crazy expensive to buy, and I imagine it's also rather expensive in insurance.

My Type-6 is only 50k to 60k in insurance, so no big problem if I get blown up.

Yes an off the shelf, destroyed ship waiting to happen, Python is about 2.5 million rebuy and my fully kitted out Core mining Python is just below 6 million rebuy.

I just say because you can get over 100 units in a type 6

And i really appreciate you mentioning it. All you guys have been incredible helpful , thank you so much (y)

Ouch, that is a lot of credits, well it's a lot to me ;)

Have you seen what a Type-7 looks like and how much cargo it can carry?
one thing to bear in mind that a Type 7 is a large ship, so you loose all of the lucrative outpost missions, as they have Small / Medium pads and you wont be able to dock a Type 7 there.

Congrats of the new purchase

Usual progression is Type 6 then Asp Explorer or Type 7 (depending on types of missions you like to run)

My progression (back in the early days when money was harder to make) was a follows:

Sidewinder - Starting missions
Hauler - Running Rares (not really worth the money in today's economies of scale - but back in the day the thrill of jumping 200ly across the bubble from lave/leesti to Witchhaul just to sell goods for big profit)
Cobra - Running Rares (as above - better optimised route)
Type 6 - Type 7 - Cargo Haulage
Asp Explorer - Long distance Slave Smuggling (Robigo - good times when 1 scan over the whole mission caused instant failure)
Python - any missions you like.
then whatever ship you feel like moving up to...

At this point I Picked up an Anaconda and did a bit of engineering on it (nothing much just any of the expo mods Felicy Farseer offered - G5 FSD and a low lvl thruster mod)
took a run out to the Seagul Nebula via Betelguese - I picked this route as it took me over the 5000ly from Sol (a requirement needed for the unlock of prof. Palin). It was a brick to fly - but due to the jump range and loadouts available is the ship of choice for most Explorers. (Hindsight now i would have probably used an Orca or Beluga)

My first planetary landing was in the Anaconda - and first SRV trip was in Deciat looking for Arsenic for the G5 FSD mod.

Once i'd finished that the exploration bug took hold and went to Colonia (Via Sag A*) in a Cobra MKII - Got Elite in Exploration once i cashed in the data at Colonia)

Got back to the bubble did a couple of bits around (engineer unlocks etc). worked out how to make loads of money from exploration (scanning certain types of planets), then decided to head out into the void once more.
This trip I decided to set my sights further and Beagle Point Beckoned (a mere 65,000 ly from home)
I dusted off my Anaconda again for this trip (with a couple of mods for better range - mid 50's) followed the Sagittarius Carina Arm to Beagle point
the whole journey took about 6 months in total - got back to the Bubble and did some Powerplay (specifically Li Yong Rui) to get the lvl 5 exploration bonus.
Cashed in my Exploration data with a 200% bonus for a profit of something like 3.7bn Cr.

TL-DR:
make your own path do what you want, when you want - just have fun doing what you do..
there's no quick win in this game... and no final goal.

One other item to mention.. as great as this game is... if you have the opportunity, try it in VR.. it takes the game to a whole new level..

enjoy..

Thank you, and yes I did see the Type-7 needs a large landing pad, so one have to plan accordingly when traveling.

Sounds like a hell of a ride, haha.

Cheers. I'm deliberately taking it slow in the game, as there is no rush to some kind of end game goal. I play with a wired Xbox 360 controller (on a PC) feet up, and lean back in my comfy chair, for maximum chill out

I'm not sure I could use VR with my current setup, though VR sounds really cool.

I use the xbox controller as well. Took a while to get used to after my Hotas died but I enjoy it notw. For the record, my Python rebuy is about 4.5 Mil, thankfully I've never had to rebuy 1.

4.5 million to rebuy, good lord that a lot of money!
If you made your way through the ships in order of increasing price the costs just creep up until you get to the Asps and the Vulture after which prices increase by millions per hull and of course as the ships get bigger they carry more and bigger modules some of which are mind blowing lay expensive and of course the insurance rebuy is 5% of the price paid for the ship and all modules fitted.

Another thing to keep in mind is that there are only 6 ships out of 37 that cost more than the Python and some of them are much more vulnerable.

Another new CMDR here. I have 215,00 credits and need to move to an Adder or Hauler for more credit-earning options by trading or exploration, I'm still in the bubble and looking for a home station. What station with a shipyard that has the Adder and Hauler available are near the bubble?
Also looking for a new pilots group to join.

Hi there! If you Google inara.cz it’s a 3rd party app which has tonnes of info to help you out. You can use it as is, or register and link it to your cmdr so it will show you at a glimpse things like how many mats you have for engineering etc. It really is very useful indeed 👍🏼

You can use this:

Change the "reference System" to the one you are currently in (I used Matet in the newbie zone) - you can see that the Adder / Hauler combination is not rare.

EDDB is a good resource

Regarding the new pilots group - scroll up :)
Right at the top of this page is a link to the Galactic Academy discord, they should be able to help you there.

You seem to have it all figured re: Ships and their role in life.👍 For 'goals' may I humbly suggest (if not already mentioned)... Unlock the Sol 🌞System and visit our 'home' 🌍(No other real benefit other than 'everyone does it'). Just continue to enjoy the game.. I have since 2014 and it rarely disappoints. 👨‍🚀 o7
